Charlie is the best. Not only did my hair turn out exactly how I wanted, but he went above and beyond by accommodating an earlier time slot to fit my tight schedule. Since I was in town for my wedding, the stakes were high, but Charlie delivered a perfect cut and style. The service was top-notch--he's incredibly easy to talk to, and the salon itself is spotless and modern. If you're looking for someone who understands Asian male hairstyles, Charlie is your guy. I'll be booking with him every time I'm back in Seattle. Highly recommended! read more

I spent 4.5 hours with Charlie, we did a full hair cut and a full balayage. We first talked about different hair styles - layers at different lengths and what would look good with my hair type. Since my hair is rather thin and not dense, we decided we want the ends to be fuller. He suggested different options which I appreciated :) He also did a similar consultation with hair color, given that I already had balayage previously and had 4-5 inches of black roots out. His studio is very nice and spacious for a solo studio. Charlie is also very personable and we had a great conversation- he gave me great life advice haha. I would highly recommend his services for asian hair! Excited to go back again! read more

Charlie is great! He responded fast to my texts and was able to see my vision from the pictures I sent. My hair is bleached/colored and I was concerned about how my hair would do with a perm. My perm turned out amazing! Charlie did a hair treatment before my perm, which prevented damage to my colored, dry hair. And my curls are the perfect looser look I was aiming for. Hair transformations can be anxiety inducing, and Charlie's honesty put me at ease. read more

Charlie not only went above and beyond with my haircut and perm, but he was also super accommodating for my schedule as I was reaching out to him last minute about my appointment (I needed my hair done within a matter of days for an event and I was in his chair a day and a half after first contacting him). I can tell he's the kind of guy to work with you and that alone made me feel extremely well taken care of. He's very knowledgeable and passionate about his craft and I will definitely be going back to him again in the future. read more

Great service - Charlie is super knowledgeable and puts great care into his work. Highly recommend

It was my first time visiting Charlie for a haircut. Charlie is personable, professional, knowledgeable, and gave me a thorough consultation. He knows how to work with my natural wavy hair, resulting in a great haircut. In addition, he gave me tips on hair care. Charlie provides high quality service and the whole experience was relaxing and enjoyable. I highly recommend Charlie. read more

Now located in the Elements building in DT Bellevue, Sola Salon section on the 2nd floor. To be honest, I didn't know what to expect as I hadn't gone in for a haircut for a long time. And my split ends and heavy hair was due for some loving. I was able to read some reviews and decided to book with Charlie. I had to pay a $50 deposit just in case I was a no show. Seemed reasonable to me. Tho his messages showed a sense of urgency which slightly caused me to be anxious, and raise red flags. But don't worry guys. He's legit! Haha My hair was properly cut to equal lengths. It went from crazy lioness, to proper and easy to maintain, light and healthy queen of the jungle hair. That's a good thing. Trust me. I wanted low maintenance hair. The one that you don't have to do anything, and it'll fall back into its magical space and look amazing ... just like in the manga. And boy did Charlie deliver. I was able to get a wash too, and with a 3 minute leave in treatment that made my hair so smooth, I couldn't stop running my fingers through my hair all day. I waited to write this review to see what my hair would look like after I washed it myself, and do absolutely the bare minimum in brushing to see what it looked like... and I'm still the happy jungle queen! May convince myself to do some color or Japanese straightening in the future? But for now, definitely a great find for a place to get trimmed and treated. read more

I wish I saw the previous review on Charlie's unprofessional attitude. I experienced very similarly. He had nothing but complaints about my hair. Every time he opened his mouth, it was some dumb emotional complaint about the quality of my hair. First, I am not a vain person, I go to the salon once a while when I know I need help. Why is he expecting every person who walks into his doors to be someone with perfect hair? If I had perfect hair, I wouldn't be going to a salon now would I? Second, I didn't pay for a lecture. Dear Charlie. wtf do you expect me to do listening to you yap? Did you want me to apologize to you for owning bad shampoo? You have a loud mouth - just do your job and be quiet. And the audacity of his attitude is ridiculous as he doesn't even have the right skills. Every step along the way he was jerking my head, violently plucking my hair with his hands and tools, telling me to sit up straight when I wasn't even slouching. Also, I gave him a sample of what cut I want, not only did he not give me the style that I wanted (I asked for wispy bangs - he gave me a thick side bangs) he also told me "just wait 1 to 2 weeks, it will look better" WTF that's why I paid for the service, to look how I want NOW. Oh and before I forget, we had a small talk that went literally like this: Charlie: "do you take care of your skin?" Me: "yes" Charlie: "what do you use?" Me: "tretinion" Charlie: "where did you get it?" Me: "oh you need a prescription for it, I went to a clinic is Bellevue..(he cuts me off here)" Charlie: "then why don't you take care of your hair?" 0/0 would not recommend. I paid 100 dollars - he wasn't even on time, we had to start 15 min late because he was "on break" and didn't tell me when he would be back. He has a skill issue and he will blame it on you or your hair. Stay away from this rude ass man. In case you are wondering Charlie, hairdressers like you is why there are less and less people going to salons. We pay 100$ for a lecture and a bad haircut. Thanks but no thanks. read more

After trying many different places to get a perm done I've always left satisfied but wanted to try someone new and that's when I met Charlie. Despite having been happy with others work, Charlie by far has provided me with a hairstyle I've been extremely happy with. I highly recommend if you are looking to get a perm or haircut to give him a try. read more

Charlie was great from beginning to end. I texted him for a toning and trim appointment and he was able to accommodate pretty quickly. Before the appointment, he gave clear instructions on where to park (along with the parking payment instructions since it required some registration prompts) and how to find his salon. Once I got there, he very carefully evaluated my hair color and texture before providing his recommendations. I could tell throughout the coloring and cutting process he was incredibly meticulous and detail-oriented. Hair looked great after the appointment, but the true test was how it would look once I got home and styled it myself. It passed with flying colors. My hair is still silky smooth, the layers look great, and it just seems healthier in general. I'll definitely be going back and recommending him to my friends & family. read more

I've decided to finally write this review because I think more people need to know the unprofessional and inappropriate nature of this man. I have been getting my hair cut by Charlie since 2018 but I'm boycotting his business And finding different hairstylist because it doesn't sit right with me to pay a misogynistic man $70+ to cut my hair. Also.. he used to charge $60 back then idk why he raised the haircut price when my hair is already pretty short (above shoulders). He is talented at cutting hair, don't get me wrong. But I really don't understand why he would think it's a good idea to tell me, a woman, that "women are so irrational and over the top when they are having their time of the month." I didn't pay a grown ass man to complain about his woes about women to me. What also doesn't sit right with me is knowing that when he was interested in my friend who got her hair balayaged and cut by him, he later texted her phone number to ask her out which made her feel very uncomfortable because it was a violation of her professional boundaries with him. After she rejected his advances, she noticed that the effort and quality of her haircuts from him seemed to get worse. So. Keep this in mind before deciding to fork over your money. read more

I moved to WA recently from LA and was pleased to find a hair stylist that has had training in Korea and Japan. Having very thick and straight hair many stylists struggle with cutting my hair. This wasn't the case with Charlie. He educated me on how I can style my hair differently and even gave me two rounds of haircut in a single session until I was fully satisfied with the set. He may be candit with expressing his opinion, but you can tell that he is honest and prides his work. Highly recommended if quality matters most to you. I'm sure that I will find comfort in communicating with him through the upcoming sessions. Thanks for your amazing service Charlie! read more

The best hair cut I've ever received! Charlie is so nice and used techniques I've never seen before! From washing my hair, blow drying ever strand of hair, snipping every detail to styling. My longtime barber broke up with me and moved to Florida. I am happy for him, but not really, cos it's hard to find a stylist who understands Asian hair. After two mediocre haircuts from a stylist that supposedly caters to Asians, I came across Salon Uni on Yelp. I decided to give it a try. Charlie, at Salon Uni, was very detail oriented. I could really tell that he knew what he was doing. Upon meeting him, he told me that he already looked over my hair and my head and knew exactly how to make my hair look good. He promised to give me a better haircut than what I got last time and he delivered indeed. I really appreciate his taking the time to make sure that I had a good fade on the sides. In addition, he also washed my hair before he started working on it as well as rinsing+conditioning afterwards. Charlie was very professional--the entire experience was very pleasant. Based upon this experience, I have decided that I will be going to him from now on. And just fyi, he did warn me that the appointments get filled up fast, so he recommends to book at least a week ahead of time. Thank you for the fantastic haircut! read more

Got my haircut a couple times within the last year, loved it every time! Got a perm this time and it turned out great. Thank you Charlie!

Charlie has moved to his a new studio at Elements in Bellevue. It is on the 2nd level of Sola Salon right above French Bakery. What a beautiful upgrade of space and location. It was a pleasant and enjoyable experience on one of the hottest days in Seattle. read more

Since my initial visit, I've been back several times and I have to say that my experiences have been inconsistent. Despite making an appointment, I've had to wait upwards to 30 minutes to get seated and I've noticed that Charlie spends less time with my hair when he's running late. At my most recent appointment, I asked to get my usual layers and Charlie gave me very choppy, uneven bangs that I didn't ask for. He's also been consistently lecturing me on the condition of my hair even though I have purchased and have been regularly using the products he recommended. Lastly, I've noticed that he never uses any heat protectant which makes me absolutely cringe when he styles my hair afterward! Overall, I think Charlie is very talented but I will look elsewhere for a stylist who doesn't lecture my ear off and will listen to get my cut right. Waiting several months for bangs/bad cut to grow out is a traumatizing experience I wouldn't wish on anyone and that's more than enough to keep me from coming back. read more

Wow! Charlie knows what he is doing, I moved here from San Francisco and had to find and new hair designer, I lucked out and found Charlie. I wanted a haircut and balayage but was very wishy washy with the color. He listened and gave me his expert opinion and I'm so glad I went with it! I've had to regrow my hair from bad cut years ago and was so nervous but Charlie cleaned up my hair and gave it new life! It's got so much movement and feels so good. And the balayage he gave is soooo pretty! It's subltle but so vibrant in the right lighting which is exactly what I wanted. Highly recommend Charlie!! read more

Charlie is amazing. This is the best Japanese Permanent Straightening I have ever received, for the best price I have ever been charged. Not only does he create perfect tresses, but he's really fun to be around. After this treatment, I literally have to do nothing but wash my hair in the morning. It air dries perfectly sleek. If I want curls, I curl it and it holds well. It saves me so much time. Not to mention I can go to the beach, walk around in wet or humid weather, swim, etc, and just walk out with flawless hair. Thank you so much Charlie. I'll be flying back for a cut and color in December. I'm loyal to you now! read more

Had a great experience with my cut from Charlie! I am usually quite frugal and don't tend to get my hair done often but needed a fresh touch up. I showed him a general picture of what I wanted. I could tell he was trying to manage expectations but honestly I wasn't hoping to look exactly like the photo - just a general feel. I could tell he was experienced from the way he handled my hair and his scissors. Also appreciated that I didn't have to give him a step by step like some salons. I was super happy with my cut, and he gave me a fresh new look! It was more expensive than I would normally spend on a haircut, but it has also been a while since I got a cut I really liked. As a mom of two littles it is hard to get out but today I feel refreshed. read more

I wish I can give Charlie (Chang Lee) zero stars. Do not even consider him to do your hair. If you are a woman, stay far, far away. Not only will he ruin your hair but he'll probe and ask you many inappropriate questions (sexual harassment). Also, he only takes payment by Venmo so when he does a bad job on your hair, you can't dispute the charge. His work/service is not at par compared to many of the experienced stylists around this area. He should not be charging $70+ for haircuts and $200+ for color. The haircut and coloring he did on my hair were not worth $390. How can he charge this much when he did not do exactly what I asked him to do? I asked for warm caramel and blonde waterfall balayage. Instead, he gave me copper/brass chunky highlights without any dimensions of low/high highlights. Also, I asked him to trim only 1 inch from the length because I'm growing my hair, and I wanted my ends cut across with long layers. Instead, he cut-off 2 inches, rounded the ends, and gave me choppy layers. Because of the way he cut my hair, the ends look very sparse. Prior to my appointment, he confirmed what hair style (color and cut) I wanted. If he couldn't follow-though or couldn't color or cut my hair like I asked, then he should've been upfront. The light in the salon was dim that I couldn't confirm my hair color, so throughout my appointment, I reminded him that I wanted warm caramel and blonde tones. Each time he reassured me that my hair is exactly what I asked for. He kept on telling me that he is a master colorist and he even went to Japan and Korea to get trained. He didn't even let me check my haircut before he curled my hair. While he started curling my hair, he tried to reassure me that he had cut my hair like I asked him, and that he is an experienced hairstylist, unlike the Americans (white) stylist who doesn't know how to cut Asian hair. From the beginning and throughout my appointment, I told him that I needed to do some work. Instead of cutting back the chatting and focusing on doing my hair, he probed my personal life with many inappropriate questions. He asked me if I was married or dating. How he wished he had met me earlier to have a chance to date me. How he wants to get to know me. He said that American men are no good and they don't treat women that well. I felt really uncomfortable. I told him that I'm happily dating and my personal life is none of his business. Although I wanted to up and leave, he was already cutting and coloring my hair. He purposely waited to ask his questions after he started working on my hair, making it hard to get up and leave. If this was a workplace, I would've filed sexual harassment with human resources. For years, I've been getting my hair done in Seattle. After moving to Bellevue, I decided that I give one of the local salons a shot. Most of Salon UNI's review was good so I thought I give it a shot. Boy was I wrong. After carefully reviewing the pictures on Salon UNI's Yelp account, I noticed in the picture that there were others in the hair salon. When others are around, Charlie will put more effort and do his best but when no one else is at the salon, like how it was during my appointment, he'll slack off and take long breaks. Also, if he thought my hair looked good, why wouldn't he take pictures of my hair to post on Yelp? He didn't because he knew that he didn't do a good job. If you had a bad experience, you should file a complaint with the BBB (Better Business Bureau) 206-431-2222, the Washington State Attorney General Office 206-464-6684, and Professional Licensing Complaint (copy and paste in your search engine https://www.dol.wa.gov/forms/600006D.pdf). Each form takes not even 5 minutes to complete. Here is Charlie's (Chang Lee) information that you'll need to file your complaint: Beau International Corp dba Salon UNI, UBI: 603-371-603. The business is in his legal name Chang Lee. Ok read more

Haircut good. Color good. If you like being hit on while your hair is getting done, then this is your place! But if you just want a haircut and a normal interaction, then you will likely go home looking fabulous but mad. 5 stars for the haircut. 1 star for everything else. So that's like 3 stars I guess. It's like hair vs dignity -- too complicated to express with stars. read more

I had a great experience with Charlie for a cut and color. I found him on Yelp as I wanted a new hair designer. My experience was not disappointing. Charlie was very friendly, attentive and skilled. He listened to what I wanted but also gave great suggestions for both cut and color, and he also gave me great styling tips at the end. The salon was very clean and modern and comfortable. One of my friend's recommended me to Charlie, and now I don't trust anyone else to cut my hair. I have medium-thick hair with a wavy/curly texture, which many stylists don't know how to cut correctly. I asked him for a certain length, face framing, and some layers, and Charlie did an amazing job. He always cuts straight, even on wavy hair and makes my hair look so healthy. It's taken me a while to find a stylist that I love since my move to the Seattle area. I approach every new salon with a degree of fear and reservation.
