They have a wonderful creative take on hot dog toppings and their grumpots are just THE BEST. I have ordered a few different dogs here but my personal favorite is still holding to the mac-roni dog. Who wouldnt love a hot dog topped with a scoop of macaroni and cheese and pepperoni? The buns are toasted...super plus. I need to give an honorable mention to the TNT dog as well. They have a pretty consistent lunch time schedule in the parking lot of the old checkerboards. The people that work on grumpys are super friendly as well. One of their food trucks was at the Framingham Farmers Market this past Thursday. There was a wide variety of food available that evening, but for some reason, the Trolley Dogs food truck called out to me. As their signs say, they serve giant, handmade dogs. They're so big they have to use a mini sub roll, instead of a hotdog bun. You can order your dog as you like, or select from their menu of pre-planned dogs. I forget what it was called, but I ordered from the menu. My dog was topped with onion, relish, and hot mustard. It was super hot and humid on this day and I felt bad for the food truck workers. It must've been like an oven in there. The dog was so awesome I made my way back to the food truck afterwards to tell them so. If you enjoy an occasional hotdog like me, and you happen to see one of the Trolley Dogs food trucks somewhere, you should check it out! I promise, you'll be glad you did. P. S. I did not have one myself, but one of my companions had one of their craft lemonades. He raved about that Trolley Dogs offering as well.

Finally made it to this Route 56 institution after hearing about it for years. Got two dogs: the…read moreclassic with their Famous BBQ sauce, and the "Everyting Plus" -- BBQ, onions, relish, and mustard. Both were exactly what a roadside hot dog should be -- simple, unfussy, and clearly built around that sauce as the star of the show. Here's the thing that surprised me, and honestly the reason I'm writing this review: I asked the folks working the counter about the sauce, and they told me it's actually a Korean BBQ sauce, and that the family running the place is Korean. Zero problem with that from me -- if anything it makes the sauce more interesting -- but I went back and read a stack of reviews here before my visit, and not a single one mentions this. Every review talks about the "sweet, molasses-y, nostalgic BBQ sauce that tastes like childhood," decades of regulars, the whole Americana roadside-stand thing -- but nobody's ever put two and two together on where that sauce actually comes from or who's actually making it. Kind of a funny blind spot for a place this well-loved and well-documented. It also sounds like there's real layered history here that nobody's nailed down publicly -- the current owner (also named Annie, no relation) has run it since 2005, but the name and building go back further, possibly to a different name and a different original "Annie" before that, with some sources pointing to WWII-era roots and others to the 1950s as "Silver Grill." Old signage on the building references press coverage from Yankee Magazine, the Boston Globe, and the Telegram & Gazette, so this place has clearly had its moment in the regional spotlight more than once. If anyone in the comments knows the fuller ownership history -- who ran it between the original Annie and the current one, when the Korean family took over, or how the sauce recipe evolved -- I'd genuinely love to hear it. This feels like a piece of Central Mass food history that's never been fully written down, and I'd love to help fill in the gaps. Bottom line: great dogs, better sauce, and a story that deserves more digging.

To put it into perspective, even if it was a $5 combo, I would still be deeply disappointed in the quality of the food. It wasn't just subpar quality as well, the hotdog served was lukewarm at most, and the bun was cold. Some fries just straight up weren't cooked. This was the very first time in my life that I've bought food from a restaurant and felt genuinely scammed. In fact, I have never left a negative review on anything in my life. But this business just seems disingenuous. Until they change their prices or improve the quality and effort they put into their food considerably, just don't waste your money. Pick a different food truck, or pick a different restaurant at the mall. (This was at their Solomon Pond Mall location. Was excited to try it, but unfortunately it is what it is.)
