Five of us recently stayed at the Slide Brook Lodge and had a great time. We rented the 5 bed…read moreprivate apt upstairs (the efficiency) for about $200 with tax. At $40/person/night, this was an unbeatable deal. The private apt can house five or even six (if two people share a full bed). The apartment was perfect for us. The beds were really comfortable, and the kitchen was great for breakfast in the morning before hitting the slopes, and the washer/dryer helped to dry wet gloves. There was a large flatscreen tv and comfortable living room (shared with the other hotel guests, but we never saw anyone using it) and also a really great outdoor hottub that we used everyday. Sugarbush is a mile away (and there's a bus stop across the street from the lodge). On the ground floor of the lodge is crowded tavern with great live music, and a foosball table. Sometimes the music would be audible from the room, but it was never a huge problem. Alex took good care of us and made great suggestions on things to do/eat in the area. He was also nice enough to let us checkout in the late afternoon (which meant we could shower before our long drive home on our last day of skiing). Besides our private apt upstairs, the other rooms of the lodge are small and bare and hostel-like. Check the website for pictures of those. You wouldn't call this place luxurious per se, but for a group of young people it's perfect -- really comfortable and affordable and got the job done. Highly recommended.

I just love this ridiculous place…read more My family has a vacation home in the valley, and whenever possible on Saturdays we try to take the drunk bus (free shuttle service on saturday nights) over to Slidebrook or Tevere. Things to know about Slidebrook: 1) Crowd is mixed at the bar, but often includes rowdy young 20-somethings staying at the hotel. Shenanigans often ensue, but there are always folks of all ages here. 2) The space itself is pretty freaking small, but I love this about it. Super intimate, great skibar layout. They cram the band in the corner and make it work. Awesome acoustics is a bonus. 3) The bartenders (little Jenny and big Jenny) are the shit. They are the PERFECT bartenders - a mix of super fun and inappropriate with a hint of "will smack a brotha down if he gets out of hand". Really great and hilarious people. 4) The bands are always sick. Dancing ensues. 5) There is a hottub upstairs that you can just go use. It is infamous and often full of drunk kids from New Jersey. But hey, you only live once. Highly recommend this place, just ignore whatever the 21 year olds are doing and go with a group of friends. We always end up staying way later than intended.

We arrived on Friday morning prior to check in time, and the staff got us situated in the cozy front common room with a roaring fire and yummy cappuccinos. When it was time to check in, a nice man offered to start a fire for us in the wood burning stove in our room. And he did it multiple times throughout our stay. Everyone throughout the weekend was so wonderful, but we specifically remember Mehnaz and Amelie. They work hard, bring positive energy, and do it all with a smile. The food was also excellent. We had dinner at both restaurants and really enjoyed each experience. The breakfast was also top notch and I wish I could replicate the bacon they serve. Overall, 20/10 stars... we cannot wait to come back! Getting married this fall in Waitsfield and planning on spending the night after our wedding at the Pitcher Inn. Highly recommend!

TLDR: perhaps the best meal I've had in Vermont, and a great choice for anyone in the area…read more The dining room at The Pitcher Inn has a 3-course or 4-course pre fixe menus available for dinner, and you can chose any combination in the menu (except the entrees more than once). 3-courses was filling for me. Dinner started with an anchovy amuse-bouche that had a nice savory taste. They even offered a free glass of champagne for my birthday. The grilled octopus was nice and light, and the cauliflower was okay with the dish. It was a smaller potion, but left room for the remaining courses. The tagliatelle was cooked well and the tomatoes and mushrooms added nicely to the dish. This was a nice sized portion, and definitely filling. The chocolate raspberry tart was more on the chocolatey side. Maybe my least favorite course from those I had, but nonetheless still good. The check came with petit four which was a nice touch. My waiter, Sergiu, was delightful and made me feel welcome the entire time. I really enjoyed my dinner here and would look to return.

I recently stayed here for a place to crash before an early morning hike. The check in person and…read moreprocess was excellent. The building has an old ski lodge feel to it. However, it's very dated. The room was very small with basic amenities. There was no way to control the air conditioning temp which I would have preferred (at least I couldn't easily locate a thermostat). The beds were okay. Sheets and pillows were great. The tv was TINY and had a pretty legit delay when changing channels. The outlets are old and my cell phone charger kept falling out if it. I also found no available open outlets, had to unplug the lamp and alarm clock to accommodate two chargers. For the price you pay ($190/night) it's reasonable. I left far too early to see any of the continental breakfast offerings. And was disappointed to learn their gym is not on property. Overall suited my needs for night.

I just don't know where to start with this place. I mean honestly, I'm at a loss for words. It…read moreseems like the owners had a clear goal in mind but they've certainly given up. Now before I start getting all negative, I will list some pros Pros: -Not pricey depending on what room you book -On the access road (short drive) and one of the GMT shuttle stops -Clean (For the most part - will return to this later) Now that that's over, here's why this place is 2 stars in my view: The room itself is a standard motel room: Two uncomfortable beds with scratchy, plastic-y linens, a small TV, a desk, coat rack, and a window. The bathroom appeared to be clean, however, the dollar store shower head certainly didn't help make the lukewarm water any more pleasant. Instead, it turned the already lukewarm water into a fine mist. For any of you who haven't skied before, that's the worst way to end a day of skiing in single-digit temps. The bathroom was equipped with a dim vanity light and a light-fan combo that sounded of a helicopter with the de-fogging power of simply leaving the door cracked open. The people running this place certainly aren't generous with the heat, another thing that ticked us off. The breakfast at this place is a true reflection of the lack of effort put into this place. What were the breakfast items available at a lodge right in the center of a state known for its cuisine? Coffee, store-bought Activia yogurt, bagels, cheap pastries and cereal in a broken plastic dispenser. It was served in the bar which other than the food setup had 3 little tables in it (People also ate in the Great Room). It isn't that hard to simply move these tables in the morning, add another table where they were, put out some waffle irons, some batter, and nice maple syrup to help improve this laughable breakfast. This is without mentioning the biggest problem with breakfast - it doesn't start until 7:30. Good luck eating here and getting to the mountain in time for when Super Bravo and GMX start loading. And now, this place's attempt at a cozy, warm vibe - the Great Room. Like the breakfast, this place also resembles the lack of effort put into this place. We headed there to sit by the fire before our dinner reservations at Tucker Hill. We were, of course, the only ones there. I can't blame the other guests, what was there to see? The floor lamps were turned off, the fire was smoldering out (only 6:30 PM, mind you), some crappy pop music was cutting in and out of the iPod on the mantle, and the most uninviting bit, a security camera was very proudly mounted on the chimney. Based on other guest's experiences I can only assume this is in part meant to prevent people from drinking their own booze outside of their rooms (How dare they). By the time we returned from dinner at around 8:45, the fireplace had been covered up and the lights in the lobby were mostly turned off. Upon our morning of checkout, we were confronted with a rude awakening: A freezing cold room, and after we packed all of our stuff, a brown-ish stain (pictured) on the box spring which appears to be spilled coffee, or dare I say, blood. When driving to dinner the night before, we took note of the large number of other places to stay on German Flats, nearly stripping SL's benefit of being much closer to the mountain than everything else. Upon the stain incident, we were sure we weren't staying here again. For curiosity's sake, we looked to see the prices of Tucker Hill to find that a room of comparable size only costs $20 more than SL, and with not a single review under 5 stars. Sugar Lodge, we won't be back.

I got the scrambled eggs with bacon and orange juice. The eggs were cooked just the way I liked them and the hostess was more than accommodating even if I was late and had come back from an early morning nap, I mean yoga lesson.
