It was my first time seriously couponing, and the staff stocking shelves were incredibly patient helping me locate items. I scanned everything through the CVS app before putting it in my cart to make sure the coupons attached correctly. One employee with bright red lipstick was especially encouraging and genuinely cheered me on while I was figuring everything out. Those interactions made me feel welcome and excited to learn. I will say that I hate how much merchandise is locked up at this location. I understand why stores do it, especially in the city, but needing assistance every time you want a basic item gets frustrating quickly. That said, the employees who helped unlock items were polite and helpful. The real problems started at checkout. I had carefully planned three transactions so I could roll ExtraBucks rewards between purchases. My first transaction should have earned $19 in ExtraBucks, but only $11 appeared. Several digital coupons that showed as attached in the app didn't apply at checkout either. I also had qualifying items for one of the spend-threshold promotions, but the reward never triggered despite the shelf tags clearly advertising it. While I was trying to figure out what happened, another customer standing nearby told me she had experienced similar issues at this same store and had stopped trying to use the promotions because rewards frequently failed to appear in her account. Hearing that made me wonder whether this was a larger problem than simple user error. Then I had an interaction with an employee named Marion that turned an annoying situation into an awful one. I was trying to explain exactly what I had done, including how I scanned every item through the app beforehand to verify the coupons attached. I couldn't get through a complete sentence without being interrupted. Instead of listening, she repeatedly told me I was wrong and insisted ExtraBucks are only issued at the end of the month. This may have been my first time couponing, but it was not my first time shopping at CVS, and I knew that wasn't how ExtraBucks generally work. The conversation got increasingly uncomfortable. At one point she told me to retrieve coupons from the self-checkout receipt bin and repeatedly implied that I was causing problems because I didn't understand the system. What upset me most was the implication that I might be stealing items, despite the fact that I had carefully scanned everything and was actively trying to verify my purchases. It wasn't until I requested a full refund and she scanned every item in my bag against my receipt that the suggestion disappeared. I would never intentionally steal from a store, and being treated as though I might was humiliating. Even at the end of the interaction, the tone remained condescending. I fully understood that returned purchases wouldn't generate ExtraBucks rewards. The issue wasn't that I expected rewards after a refund. The issue was that the advertised rewards and coupons didn't work correctly in the first place. I know retail is difficult. I know coupon transactions can be complicated. I went into the conversation expecting some confusion and maybe even a little frustration while we worked through it. What I didn't expect was to be repeatedly interrupted, talked down to, treated with suspicion, and made to feel like I was wasting everyone's time for asking reasonable questions. The kind employees on the sales floor deserve recognition because they were genuinely helpful. Unfortunately, the checkout experience completely overshadowed that goodwill. I left feeling embarrassed, frustrated, and convinced that I won't be returning to this location.

This CVS is smaller than some others so it's not as well stocked with holiday items during the end of year holiday season, and have a small refrigerator and freezer section. With the lack of a grocery store in Old City, the smart thing to do would be to expand those sections. But I can usually find what I'm looking for here. And the pharmacy rarely has a wait. They recently added self checkout machines, so u can generally avoid that person holding up the line complaining about something or asking for a rain check on a coupon. This CVS has been a welcome addition to my Old City neighborhood since the day it opened.

Today I got home from work around 540 and was parked half in front of the passenger loading zone in front of the pharmacy. The owner comes out and tells me that if I am not shopping at his pharmacy he is calling the PPA on me. I pointed out that it was a 20 min loading zone until 6pm and it was 540pm. I told him I have shopped there several times and have told various neighbors about it. He said it doesn't matter and he was calling then PPA and was quite rude and confrontational about it (which even if he called the PPA they couldn't have ticketed me as I was within the 20 min until 6pm when the parking restrictions end and they don't ask for a recipe of purchase). He has now lost me as a customer and I will make sure to tell my friends as well. The amount of money he lost by being rude over 20 minutes of parking far outweighs his efforts of going out of his way to get me a ticket from the PPA. I ended up moving my car which I'm sure right after I left someone took anyways because I didn't feel like dealing with the hassle. It's a shame when you want to give business to the non corporate pharmacies and go out of your way to do so only to be confronted about parking (legally) in front of his shop less then a block away from where you live .

I went into the city to stay at a hotel but with my luggage stuck at the airport and inaccessible, I went in search for a drugstore to get some toiletries and other items once I arrived to the hotel. This CVS Pharmacy was the closest drugstore to the hotel. As I walked to the front entrance, there was a homeless man in front of the entrance where it was awkward to walk around him but I needed to go into the store. I was pleased, however, with the service and the items in stock upon my arrival though. The store looked a bit disheveled where a number of items including deodorant were locked up, and I needed to find an employee to assist me. Once the employee arrived, I was able to ask them where other items I was looking for were located. One item was too large (for only one night), and the employee went into the back to find me a smaller item at a smaller price. Not all employees would have been willing to do so. Ultimately, I found all items I was looking for, which were all everyday items. I encourage everyone to sign up for ExtraCare, which is a free membership and includes sales prices, deals for you, 2% back in ExtraBucks rewards, a $3 birthday reward, and up to $50 in ExtraBucks rewards at the pharmacy. Then, for $60 per year ($5 per month), you can purchase membership in the ExtraCare+ program, which includes $10 in ExtraBucks rewards per month, free same-day delivery, free shipping, free same-day Rx delivery, 20% off CVS Health brand products, and 24/7 pharmacist help line. Occasionally, there is a $48 discounted annual rate for ExtraCare+ or another promotion. I have heavily used the ExtraCare+ program over the past many years. Also, while the Black Friday CVS deals were incredible a number of years ago, now you can only get good deals but not incredible deals with free items. While I'm a huge fan of CVS in general and the ExtraCare+ program, the stores are hit or miss. If I was stranded in Philadelphia again and in need of a CVS location, I would consider this location though I would be well aware of my surroundings when walking to and from this location.

The delays in picking up medications here are unmatched, and if you call to ask for updates or help, they will literally say "we don't have it" and nothing else - wish I was kidding! If you're desperate and need to go - plan for a quick visit and don't depend on them for getting your medication on time.

Their overall low star Yelp rating is appropriate- I will look into an independent pharmacy to no longer patronize CVS at all. I called at 1:14 pm to refill a Rx. The tech said 1 hr. She heard my disappointment & asked if I was already there . I stated I was a a couple blocks away, she said to come in 20 minutes. The call lasted 4 minutes, so she said this at approximately 1:18 pm. thus summoning me at 1:38 pm. At 1:40 pm, I arrived to a closed pharmacy gate & a sign noted they close 130 - 2 pm for a break. After waiting a few minutes, I asked the pharmacist about my Rx, I said I was told to pick it up now. She replied, incredulously, they're on break, etc. "We're 12 minutes into our break, we open at 2 pm." I relayed my confusion because I was told to come at this time. I asked if she was the person I spoke to, she said no. Then the tech (out of my view) said she told someone that, but that was "a while ago" with an attitude of annoyance in her tone. Umm...it was 20 minutes ago...that's how long ago she said it. I walk away, understandably frustrated. Clearly, the tech didn't realize the time when she told me to come in 20 min, inadvertently, telling me to come when they're closed. An understandable mistake. But instead of owning it, they treat me poorly, as if I am the issue. I'm doing what I was directed to do. This increasingly bothers me as minutes tick by. (To be fair, the pharmacist didn't know I was told this, but her affect was still rude.) I had my wife & kids waiting in the car outside & this will now be about 45 min of them waiting. I buy snacks, take it to them outside & explain the wait. At 1:55 pm I go to the gate & stand to await the opening. Before it does, I hear the tech (still out of view) say to the pharmacist, in a nasty tone, "...& when she called, it was like..." the pharmacist stopped her, looked at me with wide eyes to try to indicate to this poor excuse for an employee to shut up b/c I'm standing there. They didn't know who I was, but they quickly learned who I'm NOT...& that's "the one." I proceeded to read that little girl & the pharmacist for filth. I attached the screenshot of my call. I am also not the silent type, the entire store probably heard me say the only thing they should be offering me is an apology for their mistake, not their attitude. The pharmacist immediately changed her affect, apologized & filled my Rx in 5 min. She was suddenly pleasant as pie, twice as sweet. I know it's hard to find good help, but you lost a years-long customer today.

I…read morecould totally see something negative happening if you over-demanded or had complex shopping requests, but on the whole, I have found this CVS to be reliable, quick during most visits, and relatively orderly. One plus is that they are pretty well staffed here. I've been to other CVS locations in the city, where you hit the button to ask for someone to help you open the Tylenol cabinet, only to wait for an inordinate amount of time before you have to walk all the way back up to the front to get the person yourself. You're able to get the help you need in almost every part of the store here. Granted, you're dealing with Philly folks, so they're not going to give you the nicest smile or friendliest service. But they'll help you out with what you ask, and frankly, when I'm coming to CVS, I'm not looking for the red carpet anyways so that's more than enough for me. Only knocks are probably the fact that aisles are often getting clogged up due to constant restocking happening. Not their problem honestly, because they're serving pretty continuous traffic opening to closing because of UPenn and Drexel nearby, so the fact that they're on top of inventory in the aisles instead of letting shelves stay empty is a good sign to me. Pharmacy folks are also helpful in the Philly fashion. Don't think I've had much of a wait ever, except for right after work, as expected, but even then they recently installed these partially self-serve kiosks within the past year that have greatly sped up prescription pick ups here. On the whole, I think you shouldn't believe all the revenge reviews happening here. This place is more than sufficient and above average for CVS locations in the city.
