Called ahead cause we were a party of 13 + 2 kids and other places close by had a 1 - 1.5 hour wait. The owner said they had a big party at their largest table but was happy to put our name down for us as we were still like 30 minutes out. It was perfect timing cause by the time we got there that party had left and they were able to seat us right away! The service was great! We did AYCE and they let us order per grill which was super nice as it made it less complicated and they even had extra tray holders for the meat so we had space to eat. Food was delicious! We ended up getting the classic menu (so the cheaper one) but quality did not suffer. There was good fat to meat ratio (as sometimes too many cheap places give you only fatty pieces). I also loved that they had galbi and it was sooo flavorful! It's marinated with the perfect sauce. They also had rice paper and radish paper which I like to have when doing AYCE kbbq. Why eat at Chris Korean BBQ? Well first of all if you do live in Pasadena and you love KBBQ then you definitely have to check this spot out! I've been coming here for a few years now and it gets better! I went last Friday and it was my best experience overall. They also have outdoor sitting so if you do like drinking a cold beer like me then you should try sitting outside to enjoy the breeze and have a different view. Not only is the food fresh but you can't go wrong with the AYCE menu considering that every spots in Korea town went up in price. I also want to thank Max for the great service. The other day I was in Pasadena and was looking for a lunch spot. I went on Yelp and found Chris's Korean barbecue. I thought to myself I have to come try this place out. Oh my God the service was amazing. It was all decked out for Halloween and looked so cool. Inside the food was delicious the meat, the short ribs, the beef tongue, everything, and the sides the Kii, the potato salad, the pasta salad. Everything here was amazing. This place is really good. I should have known I was in trouble when the soup had carrots in it. Chris Korean BBQ left a lot of desire unfortunately when it came to the food. The galbi tang is what I normally get at Korean restaurants when I travel and this one missed the mark. It was extremely bland and not very tasty. On the bright side, service was great. We were in the Pasadena area and craving kbbq so we decided to give this place a try instead of trekking to Ktown. They have a limited amount of free parking spaces in their back lot or there is free 2 hr street parking. Both seem to fill up fairly quickly around dinner time on this weekday night, however, this parking situation is definitely more ideal than LA Ktown. We opted for the AYCE classic option which was about $38 per person. This is the most bang for your buck compared to the set options or individual meat plates/combos. There is another AYCE option above this one with a few more items to choose from, but realistically speaking we cannot eat THAT much anymore to utilize all those choices lol. You can order up to 3 types of meat at a time and they will automatically bring you banchan (which they will refill upon request for no extra charge). You can also order as much salad, rice, steamed egg, spicy soybean soup, and Korean pancake as you wish as it is also included. Drinks are not included - soft drinks are $2.99 and non refillable as they will bring you a can and a cup of ice. Staff are all English speaking and considerate but not as experienced/fast as other kbbq places (i.e., you will likely have to ask for a grill change instead of them automatically changing it out when it has been smoking for some time burning marinade that inevitably gets stuck on after cooking a couple orders of meat.). Reason for only three stars is due to a piece of plastic that we found in the kimchi as well as the food overall. After telling our server about the plastic, we were brought a new dish of kimchi but tbh, I couldn't trust it anymore and also found myself being more cautious about eating each item. I am currently 9 months pregnant so I got a bit extra paranoid. To our surprise, unlike other restaurants in our experience, nothing (like a drink or extra dish) was comped in attempt to make up for it. Banchans and other sides were good, but not great. We were pretty disappointed with the pork belly which we had saved to be our last order of meat. Pork belly is a kbbq staple and tends to be very rich and fatty, however, this cut of pork belly became super tough when grilled. Went on a Friday night without a reservation and were seated almost immediately. Lots of street parking nearby. Quick and friendly service. Decent spread of banchan, good salad. Meat quality was just okay, to be expected at this price point for AYCE but still a little disappointing. In order of best to worst, galbi, pork jowl, ribeye = joomuluk, brisket (sad as chadolbaegi is usually one of my favorites!) I would probably only get the galbi again even though the marinade was too sweet. Wow what a big disappointment. We live down the street and always wanted to try this kbbq. First when we were seated at the booth there were so many flies and fruit flies!!! Our table was the only one that had it and when we brought it to the attention of the waiter she said it's because the morning shift leaves the door open! There were flies on our side dishes and pretty sure on our meats. Imagine trying to eat and hitting the flies away!!! Secondly the meat quality is not even premium for 45.99 that's ridiculous. The staff are friendly and accomodating. They also have lots of outdoor seating with heaters and awnings as well as big tables: great for big groups and diners who prefer lots ventilation. Last night I visited Chris Korean BBQ and it was the best I have had. The location was not smokey as most Korean bbq restaurants I have been to are. The portions were so generous and the price was so reasonable. Our server was Tess and she was so attentive to our needs. I will ask for her when I return. The restaurant is quiet and so pleasant. The staff is fast, tentative and helpful. Our waitress checked on us a reasonable amount to make us feel like she was on top of our orders. When we moved to Pasadena, at first, we drove to K-Town for Korean food. Luckily, we went to Chris' KBBQ and found a place that has SUPER SOLID Tofu Soup that we can get delivered HOT at home!! On a Sunday afternoon in late November. I came here for lunch with my family. We arrived at 11:30am and got seated right away in a booth. The waiter was nice and served us water and banchan items-potato salad, kimichi, cucumber kimichi, plum kimichi, Korean pancake, rice. Next we decided on AYCE classic $35.99 includes ribeye steaks. We picked pork belly, ribeye steak, bulgogi and it arrived right away. We all took turns cooking the meat ourselves. The fire was slow at first then got better when the plate was warmed up. My favorite meat was the ribeye steak because it was tender and yummy. The pork belly was good too. We got 31/2 servings of meat to get our moneys worth. The 2 servers got busy once more people came in at 12 noon. Overall good service and good quality of meats. They also have tents in the back too. I've been following this place on instagram for a while and finally decided to try it out. Popped in with a party of 4 on a Saturday at about 1pm. It wasn't too busy, but it seems like they were probably understaffed, because they were seating different parties at the same table together (after asking the parties involved if that was okay). We were alright with that, so we ended up at a table next to a solo diner. It took a while for someone to come take our order and there was a longer than usual wait time for meats to come out. Not too bad, but it was a little noticeable compared to the many other KBBQ places I've been to. We also had to ask for rice three times before it came. Had some other appetizers ordered that never came out. Again, I think it had to do with being understaffed. As far as the food, it was good, but overall, nothing to write home about. The bulgogi was the star for me, which is odd because I'm usually pretty indifferent to it. But the flavor was perfect. Sweet, smoky, and delicious. With so many Kbbq restaurants around, this one is THE one I will always come back to. The quality of food and service is unmatched. I could live off the banchan and korean miso soup they have, which compliment all of their meat selections so well. Not only is the food alone worth coming back here but the ambiance and wait staff make it such a welcoming enjoyable experience.
