Chris's does some things good. They make awesome bread. It is really hard to find a good pumpernickel or dark rye. And they do a good one. I've met some people who love them, but I don't recommend going in there for donuts. I've tried them 2 or 3 times over the last year and a half and every time it's the same. They look really tasty in the case, but they are just greasy. You can taste the oil instead of the donut. It's almost like the oil is not getting hot enough and the donut is just absorbing all the oil. While I admit Donuts should be eaten fresh, Heaven forbid you Leave one to the next day,because the oil leaches out and just makes your doughnut a soggy mess. When you pick it up and it feels like a wet sponge. Sorry I hate to give poor reviews. I don't have any ax to grind. I just went in there to get bread because I knew it was pretty good, and suckered myself into the Donuts again. This is more a reminder for me then for anyone else. read more

I went to Chris' bakey when they opened today at 6am. I came to get my friend donuts since it was his birthday. I came back home and tried one and they all just seemed... old. Not fresh at all. The packaging clearly states "fresh donuts" I think they gave me some old ones from the previous day. My total for a dozen donuts and two small coffees was a little over $40. If I'm spending this much on donuts I'd like them to be fresh. My friend still loved them but you could just tell they were not fresh at all... I might just have to specifically ask for fresh ones if I ever come back next time. read more

This is the only place my family and I come for pastries since we moved here about a year ago. They have Pershing donuts (fried cinnamon pastries ) that I love and purchase every time they have it available. My husband loves their French crullers and my kids love their sprinkled donuts. After leaving a hospital visit yesterday, my husband and I were on a high after receiving great news and wanted to celebrate by getting our favorite donuts. We decided to walk inside instead of the drive through so that we could pick out the fun colors for our kids. Usually, the employees are happy to greet you, but when we came in, one of the employees seemed annoyed that we stopped their conversation. We smiled at them and told them, "Hi!" (I've been very enthusiastic about this lately as Washington stopped it's mask mandate and I missed smiling at everyone, I guess it's annoying lol) I checked the time to see if we came before closing, but it was only around 2pm and they closed at 5pm. We took our time to see what they had left in the display case and I kept telling my husband what I thought looked good. I do this with him so we can make a list and have our order ready. The employee who seemed annoyed at our presence repeated everything back that I was telling my husband and asked if that was all, even though I wasn't ready to order yet. I felt rushed so I asked my husband if he wanted anything. My husband asked if they had butter rolls still available and the employee acted like she was offended and said, "Butter rolls?! What butter rolls?" My husband explained he bought a savory roll from then before and the other employee spoke up and said, "Oh! Our flaky butter rolls? I'm sorry, those are only available seasonally! They're so good, I wish we made them year round." I feel like she knew the other girl made us feel awkward so she tried to save face. It really seemed like the other employee didn't want us in the shop so we just said we were ready to pay. The same annoyed employee met us at the register and my husband showed his military ID because they offer a military discount. To this, the employee replied, "Yeah ok." My husband paid and said, "Thank you" and surprisingly, the employee replied, "Thank you, have a nice day!" But with the experience we just went though, I felt like it was superficial. With all that being said, that employee was probably just having a bad day. I've worked in customer service before so I absolutely know what it's like to have those. That being said, even though we were excited to visit the bakery initially, we were left with a bad taste in our mouth and won't be visiting them for pastries anytime soon. 5 stars for the food, but 3 stars for the service. I love this bakery, the food(pastry's?) Lol are amazing, they also have sandwiches they look unconventional or maybe not and I'm just not cultured lol but it's all really good thou, my favorite doughnut from there is the sugar covered one my goodness, they are the first ones I've tasted that has a slight crisp/crunch kinda like shell, those are all to harsh of adjectives cause the doughnut isn't crunchy at all it's extremely soft it just has a coating on it that I've never tasted but I love! They are learning from their father who learned from his! So this is the culmination of 40years of baking excellence lol great people aswell, super nice, you'll have an amazing experience. They were so accommodating and made us a white cake with strawberry filing, strawberry buttercream and lavender and mint colored flowers. It was a six-inch cake, which gave the four of us each two good-sized slices (because we had to save some for the following day). Basically a redux of the owners' father's place that was a local legend. Unfortunately, the owner-son doesn't have his late father's community spirit. The reason why: the owner is not an equal opportunity baker and has said in social media as well as in an interview with a local newspaper that he will refuse to make wedding cakes for everyone (even though they advertise wedding cakes for everyone) and intends to break the state's discrimination law. He is also known to be quite openly hostile to and about the homeless and needy in Oak Harbor. What they sell is tasty, but the owner is not a supporter of his community as a whole - shameful for a small town business owner. The locally-owned Haggen's would be a better choice for baked goods in Oak Harbor. read more

Such a cute and tiny little bakery tucked away under an awesome restaurant. We've been meaning to check this place out since it opened but finally got the chance today as we were taking a walk down town. We got two orange bread thingys (totally spacing on the actual name) and a cream puff. They both were very delicious and we left wanting more. Don't let the lack of their espresso machine fool you, this little quaint bakery that (I've heard) is very much supported by the community, has made themselves capable in every single way to give each customer a very fulfilling bakery experience. I was a little confused how you can serve such European desserts without providing a freshly made European cappuccino to go with it, but I shrugged it off and listened to the suggested coffee drinks that the sweet hostess offered me. I ended up ordering their iced coffee that they offer and I ordered a fizz Italian coffee that comes in a bottle (both of these coffees come from Italy). I couldn't believe how freakin delicious they both were, I hate to say it but I'm totally addicted and I probably will never go to Starbucks for coffee again (even though I love cappuccinos). I'm not kidding both of these coffees were sooo good. I ended up pouring the fizz coffee into the iced coffee cup once the iced drink was almost out so it was mixed with their wonderful dairy mixture and it tasted mind blowing. The desserts were also very good, they're not the icing crowned American over baked treats your used to seeing, these baked goods are very much European and you can tell someone in that kitchen knows what they're doing. All of this was already wonderful but the least of my expectations was put onto their doggie cake, since my dog out of all the treats I've ever bought her, she's eaten not even one of them. Long story short, this particular doggie cake was gone in less than a minute (just like the rest of the things I bought there). Needless to say, I very much suggest anyone on the island come into this bakery for the experience.
