I feel TERRIBLE about having to leave this review but I did try *everything* in my power to rectify this situation prior to resorting to this, as I genuinely do not believe in leaving negative reviews for small businesses. I am willing to delete this review & put up a positive one as long as I receive a response from the owner w/ an agreeable resolution. I called the business this morning & requested to speak to the owner - I was told that the owner only comes in on Sundays. I was not given a direct line to them. I then requested an email to reach out to- I was told the employee isn't aware of this business having any email. So I did try my best to communicate with the owner directly instead of leaving a public review, but unfortunately there are just no direct modes of communication available to customers. Moreover, I have been going to this laundromat for years & in general held my tongue whenever I noticed something disagreeable, precisely because it is such a great laundromat at a convenient location w/ excellent staff, great hrs of operation, and, unlike so many businesses, what appears to be a rejection of the surveillance state (I haven't noticed any recording cameras). But it's worth noting that when they mysteriously stopped accepting pennies without any sign or disclosure, I said nothing. When their dryers seemed to need a whole 1.25-1.50 to dry clothes (like I said, I've been going here for years & I remember three quarters, i.e. 0.75, being sufficient to dry a load of laundry. the dryers do NOT seem to be working as well as they used to), I said nothing. But now that I had an entire batch of clothes absolutely RUINED, it really is time to say something. I arrived to this location last night intending to stay under an hour, as I just had one load of laundry to do. After my clothes were done being laundered, I loaded my items in a free dryer. Before anyone asks, no, nothing was wrong with my attire upon removing from the washer. Please do not suggest that I had anything in my pockets, because if I did, after doing laundry on the warm cycle, I would have seen damages on my clothes upon removing my clothes from the washer (there are other ways I can confirm I did not have anything in my clothing pockets- for starters, only 1 single garment in this whole entire hoard even HAD pockets). I did not notice anything particularly wrong with this dryer, as there was no sign indicating anything was wrong, & the business usually leaves an "out of order" sign on any machine that isn't functioning. As soon as the dryer timer was done, I started taking out my belongings & noticed item after item was coming out SOAKED in black marks. Upon closer inspection, I noticed that they looked like ink marks. I started inspecting the dryer carefully and could see tons of wet black spots all over it. As I ruffled through the clothes, I saw the culprit... a black pen (that did not belong to me), which had clearly exploded with the heat of the dryer. The pen was almost the same color as the dryer, so I hadn't noticed it there upon loading my clothes in. I don't know if it exploded during my dry cycle or some previous dry cycle. Needless to say I was *devastated.* I should have been done with my laundry at this point. I had already been at this location for nearly an hour. Instead, I had to bring this to the attention of the employee working at the time. She was extremely helpful to me- if it weren't for her help, I would have lost ALL of my laundered items, the damages of which would have amounted to hundreds of dollars and I would have *certainly* taken this business to court b/c I just can't eat up a cost like that. She put an 'out of order' sign on the dryer & gave me a bottle of stain remover so that I could try getting the stains out of the garments. I used some of the Shout spray but noticed that the ink wasn't removable. I should note that I have a degree in chemistry, so I am aware that alcohol is the best remover of ink stains; I asked the employee if she had any isopropyl alcohol. She didn't; she gave me a hand sanitizer bottle instead. I then spent the next 2 hours hovered over their sink basin, soaking garments in alcohol, scrubbing, squeezing the excess liquid out to try & salvage my items. The alcohol appeared to be somewhat working- I could see some ink falling into the sink and some of the stains fading. My hands at this point were covered in ink & alcohol, & I was exhausted after both working all day & using all of my strength to hand-scrub garments on a Monday at 9PM. The employee was nice enough to let me run a second wash for free after all of the garments were soaked in Shout and/or alcohol. Not that this covered the cost of the excess detergent I had to use to run a second wash I never should have needed to run, but I digress. Thanks to her help, I was able to salvage a great number of clothes, including my favorite pair of pants! Unfortunately, many items were unsalvageable :( read more
