I love a good hot dog -- especially a chili and slaw combo. Chow Dog is one of the few spots that serves all-beef dogs, which in my opinion are juicier and way more flavorful than standard ones. There's no indoor seating, but the outdoor benches make it a solid people-watching spot. I paid about $18 for my usual order this time, which felt higher than normal. My first time here, I've passed this place lots of times. I didn't know that the food here was this delicious. Drive through service, although it took a while was friendly. I think due to the popularity of the restaurant at lunchtime. They recommend you call in your order first then come pick it up. Honestly, I had really high hopes for this place. I'm slightly disappointed. I will 100% visit again because I love supporting local business and Chow Dog has been around for a while. The hot dog could've been cooked a little more, so the flavor was lacking and the texture of an undercooked hot dog is not the best. The all-meat chili is the laziest, most tasteless, uninteresting, bland, boring, chili dog chili I've ever had. It tastes like it came straight from the can and they did nothing to it. Which is sad...because what an easy fix that is! Your chili is what makes the dog. The texture was on point when it comes classic chili dog - NO BEANS, EVER. But that flavor was not it, folks. The cheese never melted...mostly because the chili and the hot dog aren't hot enough to melt it anyways. Very sad. Presentation wise, it looked great to me. Read some decent reviews so I decided to go. When I got there Sign said phone orders only and that sign was plastered several places. Menu said chili dogs and slaw dogs were $3.49. So I did not order. Damn 4 hot dogs were going to cost $15. So next time I went to the store I got all the fixings for 10 hot dogs for less than $10 that includes chili and slaw. Can't beat it, been eating their sausage cheese egg biscuits for neigh on a decade. Wayyyy better than mamies.... you get a ton of food for your money and food score is always an A. I love me a hole in the wall hot dog shack like we had all over the place back in the sixties and seventies. This is one of those even though they serve more than hot dogs. Sadly too far from my house to frequent often but when I get a craving for a slaw dog and fries or onion rings this is the bomb place to go. They have a few seats on the inside and a concrete picnic table and benches on the outside and a drive through window. The staff is super sweet and working their arses off to get you your food good and hot. I've not tried them for breakfast but would in a heartbeat if I were in the area. These hotdogs are old school, not all beef or anything but who cares and the fries are delish and always fresh and hot. I have never been disappointed here. If you're looking for gourmet this is not your place but if you're looking for a good ol' down n' dirty working folks slaw chili dog and fries for a more than reasonable price this is the place to beat. read more

I would have posted pic, but I ate the dogs so fast! Anyway, with covid going on, the walk in lobby is closed. So the only way to view the menu is from the outside of the bldg, looking in. Once u figure out your order, u have to call the number posted on the building. And pull into the line for drive thru service. That was kinda odd, but... The dogs were good! The hot dog itself tasted like a regular hot dog, nothing special there. But the chili was awesome! Its sweet, not like the chili you may find on a chili dog from Krystal or sonic. Onion rings were great as well. 2 chili dogs and splitting onion rings with hubby was perfect for a lunch. Service was quick for lunch time on Wednesday. Would definitely stop by again. Since the Chow Dog has new owners some changes have been made in the food. I have been a customer for 30 years. The biscuits are a lot smaller and the amount of meat is smaller. The price is the same. It's not about the customers anymore. Disappointed customer. read more

Updating my review to 3 stars after finally hitting this place for lunch today. Prior to today I had only had breakfast biscuits here. That changed when a coworker of mine had some decent looking wings and fries at his desk. He told me you could get ten wings, fries and a drink (I think it has to be tea) on their Friday special for 5.89. You can't beat that with a stick. I went up there and tried them out. I will get to the food in a minute. One thing I have noticed is that this joint closes at about 3 o'clock. I can only assume that being in the part of town it is, the odds of it being robbed probably increase by about 10% every hour past 3 o'clock. Thus, if they were open till midnight the odds would be fast approaching 100%. I mention this in case someone reads my review and decides to check them out. I do not want anyone making a run at 3:00 or later and finding them closed. The disappointment would be too great to handle. Now, on to the food. The fries were very good and the unsweet tea I got was very good. The wings were cooked pretty crispy, which is exactly how I like them. They were also fairly large. They may do them by the pound, but I noticed it was 8 wings as opposed to the traditional 10. The wing sauce left a bit to be desired. However, being the Frank's Original Red Hot junkie that I am, I always have some Red Hot on hand, even when I am in my office. Since I got takeout, I was able to load the wings up with a ton of Red Hot and they were off the chain! I am keeping my review at 3 stars because I needed to doctor up my wings. Still well worth the price for that special. My coworkers say they have different specials on different days. Of course, I am going wheat free now so I probably cannot have any of the other specials. However, me and my trusty bottle of Frank's Original Red Hot will be enjoying these wings just about every Friday now. read more

Never judge a book by its cover momma used to tell me. This place is not much to look at. Inside they've got a secret, a damn fine chili dog. They make em just like I like em. Decent quality weenie, never met a rabbi but tasty, maybe even 100% beef. Fresh soft lightly steamed bun. Nothing fancy it's just like any other cheap hot dog bun at a grocery store. Chili is meaty , never been to Texas and more sweet than hot. Zero beans but it reminded me of what mom would concoct with a pack of chili-o mix and about twice the neat the recipe called for. Y dog was overloaded with chili and messy to eat. That's not a bad thing unless you are trying to ride a bicycle and eat this chili dog at the same time. Folks were friendly on both sides of the counter. You can eat two of these chili dogs if you've got enough napkins. That third ones gonna talk to you later on. Joint is clean, they serve cocolar products and from what I could tell serve a great breakfast. read more

Lucked up and found this diamond in the rough. Small venue with the best chili dogs around! Wish I could try the burgers to as I heard customers saying how good they were.
