Our experience here was NOT GOOD! We made an online reservation and arrived a bit early. We were surprised they could seat us right away, so things were looking good at first. We were seated and expressly told a specific waitress would be taking care of us then nothing, I mean absolutely nothing thereafter!!! No complementary water, no bread basket not a single person saying someone would be right with us - just complete radio silence. We looked around and realized we were the only two people of color in the restaurant as well. Finally, a young lady started approaching, and we assumed she was headed our way instead she began catering to the table across the aisle from us a table that was seated a full 10 minutes after we were!!!! She introduced herself to them and lo and behold. It was the very same waitress we were told would be caring for us. We assumed she would get to us next, but she did not. We waited five more minutes and then walked out! On our way out. I summarized our experience with the manager, a very pregnant young lady. She apologized profusely and nearly begged us to return and allow her to personally service, but my husband was completely OVER it. This was our anniversary we chose this place to celebrate and the night was now ruined. I have never used the race card in my life, but as I explained to the manager the complete lack of service and failure to even acknowledge our presence in the building felt very intentional. I took my time providing this review, as I wanted to allow ample time for the business to respond to my outreach, but it's been two months now without any type of response, so I feel I'm warranted in providing this review. Unlike other reviews, where the food, experience and service are reviewed, my family never had the opportunity to indulge as such. On April 7, 2026, I made reservations for my wife, mother-in-law and three others for May 10, 2026, at 1:30 p.m., Mother's Day. My wife and mother-in-law had been anxious to try out the restaurant, as they had heard through acquaintances that their food was very good. I made the reservations via Choplin's web site, which showed the restaurant's availability for that date and time. Over the four weeks between the date when I made the reservation and Mother's Day, I received numerous reminders of our reservation, including one on Saturday, May 9th, where I was asked to confirm our intent. Sunday, May 10th, we drove the hour to get to the restaurant, everyone excited to be trying a new dining experience. When we arrived, the parking lot was empty, which we thought was unusual for a restaurant on this occasion (Mother's Day). We got to the door and found the restaurant was closed. We could staff inside but clearly; they were not open for business. We tried calling but only received a message that the restaurant was closed and to call back. While we were fortunate enough to find a local favorite that was willing to accommodate us for Mother's Day (though they did not have any openings). On Monday, I called Choplin's, hoping to speak with their manager to find out why such an error was allowed to occur but no one answered the phone. Once again accessing Choplin's website, I emailed the restaurant, conveying our frustrations and the impact their lack of communication had on such a special day for my wife and mother (in-law). That was on May 11, 2026. There has been no follow-up from the restaurant of any type. I understand that Choplin's utilizes third party services to manage their reservations, but I also understand that it is the responsibility of the restaurant to manage that service and the reservations made by the service provider. The lack of response from Choplin's restaurant speaks volumes about how little they care about their customers. I will be sure to share my experience with others as I don't care how good your food may be, your lack of customer service and support tells me that I should seek one of the umpteen other high quality restaurants around the area to spend my money, where customer service is priority 1. read more

We came in on a Saturday night for my friend's son's birthday with a 6:30 reservation for six people and didn't receive our food until nearly 8:30--almost a full three hours later. It was very clear the restaurant was severely understaffed, with only two servers handling the entire dining room and no bartender. Our server, Linda, truly did everything she could and remained kind and attentive despite the situation, but it was simply too much for one person to manage. Unfortunately, when the food finally arrived, it only added to the frustration. None of the steaks were cooked correctly, and the food was not served at an appropriate temperature. The only items anyone in our group really enjoyed were the shrimp appetizer and the French onion soup. At that point, after such a long wait, we didn't even feel it was worth sending anything back. This situation felt completely avoidable with proper staffing and management. While we appreciate Linda's effort, the overall experience was unacceptable, especially for what was meant to be a special birthday celebration, and prices of food! Overall we had a nice time but the food was just not that great. We were seated right away but our service was startlingly slow. Our waitress was sweet and I felt bad for her as she had to apologize multiple times for the wait. Assuming the issue was in the kitchen? Starters were pretty basic and followed the same theme as the rest of our meal; not put together well but nice concept. Brussels sprouts were cooked perfectly but the cheese (which was awesome) was more of a garnish than a part of the dish. There just wasn't enough for each bite. Lobster bisque was nice but the lobster was scarce and the pieces were unevenly cooked. The Steakhouse Salad was just a mess. Once again, bacon bits were not enough and the dressing was a quick blast across one half. Once the first half was eaten you were just chewing down dry lettuce. My steak was weirdly unseasoned. I mean some bites had some salt taste but for the most part it was just beef. And overcooked. Normally you can say "well, your ideas of med rare is different than..." Not this time. Very little pink and only in the middle. Demi-glaze was really good. Wife's catfish was just a mess. Batter was not bonded to the fish at all. The sauce was nice but...guess what? Only a small smear on one of the two pieces. Fish itself was super mushy. Scalloped potatoes were just mush as well and had no flavor at all. I asked for S&P and both the steak and potatoes became marginally better. Bananas Foster...not it at all. I have just returned from a meal at Choplins and it is by far one of the worse meals I have ever had. The chicken Marsala was tough and tasteless. The sauce had no flavor whatsoever. My husband's salmon was overcooked, the turmeric rice was so sweet it was unpalatable and also lukewarm and watery. What on earth has happened to this restaurant? I have been to Choplins several times in the past, and always enjoyed the food and service. It's been awhile since are last visit so we decided to go back. Although the food was very good, the service was a bit awkward. The waiter was having difficulty understanding our simple requests, and the pregnant hostess/manager was not very helpful. We ate at Choplins for the last time. It used to be our favorite restaurant but 3 times in a row it has failed. This time we had the crispy shrimp appetizer, it was overcooked and chewy. We had a groupon for a particular good bottle of wine, they were out and substituted an $8 bottle of wine. Our waitress was nice but young and didn't have a clue what she was doing, couldn't answer any questions without going to ask someone. My wife and I both ordered the Snapper. First the snapper had such thick skin it was almost as thick as the fish and it was tough. You could pull it off and have a handful and half of it was still on the fish. The Snapper and the accompanying sauce was flavorless. We both looked at each other and said this is not good. We decided to leave. We let them know how we had eaten there for years but the last couple of years the whole experience has gone way downhill. I didn't appreciate the bait and switch wine either. The restaurant was about 1/3 rd full and has been that way our last few visits. I hope they get it together but It doesn't look like it. Food wasn't the issue here...entrees were delicious with standard prices for the entrees. If you are considering dining there, do not bother getting the Groupon vouchers. You will spend just as much or even more because they up charge all the "finer options" leaving you with the option of salmon, snapper, or chicken breast...the steaks and the better seafood are up charges. Also, gratuity is automatically figured in to the total of your entire bill- our waitress made $45 off a $200 bill with an $109 Groupon voucher applied, leaving us with remaining bill of $99 ($45 of it was just the tip) just to bring us our dishes, one glass of water, popped the cork into our wine bottle and managed to get wine all over my dress, by accident. My daughter and I dined at Choplin's on a Thursday evening and used a Groupon voucher and had no issues despite reading about others having some issues with theirs. Our experience was outstanding- we shared the lobster bisque and bread offering, both were amazing. Afterwards, we each had the large filet mignon entree, which was also delicious and cooked perfectly. For dessert we shared the tiramisu and it was incredible. Birthday dinner last night at Choplin's. The hostess greeted us and wished me happy birthday! They gave us the Chef's Table which was decorated with birthday decorations. The waiter and other staff were attentive and friendly!! And the food....well it was amazing!!! I had chicken Marsala and my hubby had diver scallops. Drinks, salad and then main course served at a steady pace, we never felt rushed or pushed to hurry up and eat. The chef constantly changes up the menu so the courses are fresh and unique. For dessert they added a sparkler to my chocolate cake (my favorite dessert on the menu) and sang happy birthday. The staff went out of their way to make this a special dining experience!!! We came out to Cornelius for my birthday dinner. We specifically came for Choplin's. We had 6:30 reservation and thanks to the down pour of rain we were pretty much right on time. We arrived and they had a nice covered outdoor area and inside was standing room only in the waiting area. They were booked solid, but we only had to wait 5-10 minutes for a table to be ready when we arrived. Our waitress, Taylor, was very sweet and on top of everything! We ordered the Carolina Shrimp appetizer again and it was delicious, I got a steakhouse salad and it was phenomenal, we both ordered the filet mignon. I got the 8 oz and traded the scalloped potatoes for mashed potatoes and my husband got the 12 oz as it comes. When our steaks came out everything looked phenomenal. We were disappointed they weren't cooked exactly right; however, they were so apologetic and happily fixed it for us with no fuss! When they came out again they were cooked perfectly as usual for them! The veggies were yummy and the potatoes were good as well! The desserts were out of this world as usual. My husband ordered strawberry cake and I don't care much for cake in general so I got the Crème Brûlée as usual for me. It was delicious for sure! my husbands face said it all when he bit into the cake and then he insisted I try it. When I tell you it was DELECTABLE it's an understatement. We ended up ordering a piece to go. They recognized us after we haven't been here in four months and that speaks a lot for a place I think. The atmosphere is relaxed, it was more noisy than I like tonight but it was packed and several large parties so it was to be expected to be a bit noisy. First of all, we bought a Groupon. The group one was $104 that included two entrées in a bottle of wine. Appetizer and a dessert to share. There's an up charge for almost every entrée on the menu of $15 per item. Then we asked if we could have some bread that was an up charge of four dollars. Then they tacked on a $38 tip. According to the Groupon, it asks you to tip on the total value of the meal, which they never told us what the total value was they just added the tip. And we always tipped 20%. I don't mind that but I would love to know what my dinner would've cost. So at the end of the day my $104 purchase price of the Groupon cost me $190 out the door. So the Groupon is pretty much worthless. read more

I went to Choplin's for my Xmas holiday dinner. I live alone and 99.9% of the time when I eat at a restaurant, I eat by myself. As like my previous visits to this restaurant, I had a $50 voucher from Groupon and I never before had a problem using a Groupon voucher of $50.00 before dining here by myself. As I walked in, I saw a small sign stating that they will NOT honor a $50.00 Groupon with only one diner! NOWHERE in the information on Groupon about this voucher does it say anything about a $50 cannot be used by only one diner! Choplin's is a good restaurant, but not as good as their prices are high. The only way to afford to eat there is with a Groupon, but yet they would not honor mine! I drove through a brutal traffic jam to get there, more than 30 miles. I left there without having my holiday dinner and drove back home to eat leftovers. Choplin's ruined my chance to have a 2024 holiday dinner. To top it all off. Groupon is refusing to refund my purchase! Avoid this place if you plan on using a Groupon! read more

My husband and I have been to Choplin's a few times, and decided to visit them again one weekday evening. Sadly, their prices have increased significantly, and their food quality and atmosphere just don't align with the high cost. We started with two beverages. My husband liked his Chopotini, but it was too sweet for my taste (as martinis often are). My Prosecco was served in a small champagne glass. Considering I got Prosecco recently from two different restaurants that gave me individual bottles which gave me almost two full glasses, I was disappointed with Choplin's meager pour for a similar price. The best part of our meal was the appetizers. My husband had the french onion soup, and I had the "Different Caesar." The soup was a tad salty, but still full of rich flavor, bread, and melted cheese. The grilled Caesar was amazing, and we loved the almonds, dressing, and shaved Parmesan. For our entrees, I had the crabcakes, and my husband had the duck. The crabcakes were slightly small, but didn't have too much filler. I enjoyed the vegetables, but didn't like the overly wet--and rather bland--turmeric rice. My husband's duck was fully cooked, rather than being served the usual medium-rare. He said it was flavorful but drier than usual, although the taste was improved somewhat by the orange sauce. The mashed potatoes needed salt. I have to comment on the atmosphere. Choplin's is very dark inside, and they were playing music wholly unsuitable for the image they likely want to portray. (For example, the mix we heard included Kool & the Gang's "Cherish.") Rather, they should have played quieter music like Sinatra or Big Band. Our server was attentive and very good. But overall, neither of us completed our meal thinking that we absolutely needed to return. read more

We arrived At 6:00 pm immediately ordered and waited over one hour for our meal , 4 meals were delivered , the 5th came 10 minutes later when we all then could eat. This is probably my favorite restaurant of all time. All the servers are great, but I have to recommend Danielle. She's so amazing, honest, and she remembers my order every time. I started out with the best French onion soup of my life. They put so much cheese on it, it makes for great cheese pull pics. They also bring out amazing bread and butter. Next, my sister and I split the beef medallions with mashed potatoes and kale. The kale is a personal choice because it's the best here! Not pictured, but my sister got the Brussels sprouts and those were amazing as well. Lastly, we got the crème brûlée. Every time I come there's a slightly different dessert menu, which I love. All the desserts are made in house, and you can't go wrong with any of them. If you're looking for a nice meal, this is the place to go. I would recommend making reservations though! read more

On the Saturday of Valentine's weekend, we made a reservation online. We were unaware that a prefix $89 menu was offered until we arrived. People with reservations left because of the prefix menu. The owner was too busy to come to the front door to speak to a waiting area full of unhappy guests. We were sat 20 minutes after our reservation time and told that we only had 90 minutes to dine, even though the sign on the door said we had 2 hours. We were able to order from the regular menu once we were sat. Service was mediocre, unattentive. We poured our own bottled water and wine throughout our entire meal. My husband ordered his steak medium rare and it came out medium well-well done. I ordered mine medium and it was medium rare, closer to rare. Dirty plates were not cleared until we paid our bill. We've been longtime customers. The last few times we've ordered we've been disappointed. The side portions have been significantly reduced. The herb rubbed steak used to be flavorful and cooked to perfection. Lately the steak has been ok. The fries have been burnt and scant. The loaded baked potato is served with a meager pat sour cream and butter. No chives, bacon, or cheese. So we went here for a cute little birthday dinner date. The restaurant is in a strip mall, and although the website gives the illusion of a dress code, I felt over dressed in my heels. Everyone was in jeans, sneakers, and flip-flops. The food is a little overpriced for the quality, but it was good. The bread and butter was my favorite if I'm being honest, but the dishes were not bad. The lamb was pretty good and cooked well and the potatoes were creamy. When the lobster bisque was brought: it was barely room temperature. A very small amount served in a massive bowl. Salad: average. We have been eating at Choplin's since 2018. The 'new management' is driving it into the ground and our last visit was the last straw. We arrived 10mins before our reservation time, and had to stand out in the rain because the lobby was full of people waiting to check in. 20mins later we were still not checked in along with lots of others in the same boat. When I heard someone who had a reservation 30mins before ours say that they were still waiting, we were out. And on holidays your reservation could mean a table at the makeshift outdoor sidewalk area that violates zoning and egress codes. And when approached about a reservation not being for an outside table, the 'new management' excelled really well at putting out an attitude of not caring in the least. Chili's is run better than this place. Food is still great tho, but never again for us. read more
