2 stars. I really wanted to like this place but this is straight up gora pakora Indian food. Super toned down. Feels like it's made for people who are scared of flavor. I ordered the chicken wrap. The naan was burnt. Not toasted. Burnt. You can taste it immediately and it kind of ruins the whole thing. The chana masala tasted like dirty masala... like the spice mix wasn't fresh or something was just off. No depth, no warmth, just bland. Indian food is supposed to hit you with flavor. This didn't. Maybe it works for some people, but if you grew up eating real Indian food, this probably isn't it. Wouldn't go back. read more

Trendy Indian fast-&-casual. Bowls salads & wraps w/ street food sides. Got the Chipotle feel to it, decor & model. Super nice guy walked us thru the menu. Then the other guy brought our food out to our table outside. Inside & out was clean & orderly & restroom was nice smelling too. The Pro Bowl was good flavors but w/ only 3 veggies (I think) plus the chicken, I feel like something was missing.. especially at 13.77 (Other proteins were even a few $ more). It was a bit heavy on sweet potatoes which I like but coulda used more of the others. The portion was average. The flatbread was really good & the drinks were tasty like the mango lemonade. I usually love Choolah, and always get their food. It's delicious. But as of late, their serving sizes have been absolutely terrible. For instance, when I order the daals they don't fill the cups even to halfway. I ordered 4 cups last night, and was so excited to satiate my hunger but only 1/3 of each cup was filled with food. It was heartbreaking and very dishonest of them. When I also ordered the chopped Serrano peopers they don't fill even 1/3 of those cups too. As I said, yummy food, but the customer service and specifically having integrity and giving people enough food for what they pay for is a must. Please do better. I will be taking a break from this place for some time because I am so disappointed in them. read more

The chicken in my Tikka Masala was low quality thigh scraps. The naan was black/burnt on the bottom and tasted that way. I was the only one in the place with multiple employees standing at the front counter doing nothing. When my order came up, I was in the middle of a work task on my computer. When I got up to ask for my food, I commented that it wouldn't have killed one of them to walk ten steps and set my tray down. Later, an employee who could see I was on my computer, interrupted my meal and work to discuss why she "can't" walk 10 steps and set down my tray. I told her she obviously does not understand the mission of the business and read it to her. Next, another employee (manager ?) interrupts me again, saying I was unhappy. I said I'm not unhappy at all, and that employees should be allowed to take the initiative to delight their customers (me) by bringing my food over 10 steps. Apparently she also did not understand the business' mission statement and again said "can't', which of course is a lie - she can, she just won't for whatever reason she may think 9s valid. I love Indian food but I will not be eating at any Choolaah Indian bbq again. I can handle the shortcomings of the staff - but the food quality is very low. read more

We went to Choolaah to grab a quick weeknight meal. The entire restaurant was nicely decorated and the staff were very friendly and helpful. They had a number of vegan options clearly marked on the menu. That was helpful. I ordered a tofu bowl with veggies. It had a nice flavor and was plentiful. I also ordered a side of wheat naan and samosas. The naan comes wrapped in tin foil and clearly marked vegan. The naan was a little soggy by the time i unwrapped it but it was still good. The samosas were tasty and nice and crispy. I like the idea of having a pick up window and you could see a large number of take out orders ready to go. Indian food is amazing and Choolaah is a good choice for fast casual meal. It was a pleasant surprise to find out the restaurant originated in the Cleveland area. read more

This was a super quick, convenient, and tasty spot to satisfy my Indian food cravings! I enjoyed the concept of the restaurant and how customizable everything on the menu was. I ended up ordering a Choolah bowl with white rice and chicken tikki masala. I loved how many options there were for different dietary restrictions - not just gluten-free, but also vegan and vegetarian and the menu was clearly marked. My food was really flavorful and my only complaint was that I wish I had just a little bit more rice to really soak up all of the tikki masala sauce. I also ordered the chilled chai (i can never, ever pass one up) but felt like it tasted a bit watered down, which was kind of disappointing. The store felt very spacious, had plenty of seating, and was also decorated nicely with tons of colorful artwork. Choolaah Westlake recently had its grand opening. I was pleasantly surprised at the flawless operations and helpful staff when I visited on a Sunday afternoon couple days after their opening. Their bold colors, modern décor, and an open kitchen set the scene for a vibrant dining experience. The staff were super welcoming and helpful, navigating the menu like seasoned pros to help me with my order. Choolaah Bowl with Chicken and Tikka Masala is wow inspiring - tender chicken coated in a creamy, tomato-based sauce with just the right kick. Naan sopped up every bit of that deliciousness (pro tip: ask for it extra crispy!). The Salmon Choolaah bowl with Chickpea Masala delivered a mouth watering aromatic chickpea based sauce over white rice. I could just each the sauce and rice. The salmon added extra bite of aromatic seafood protein. The Samosa Chaat definitely has much room for improvement. I wasn't prepared to need to break up the samosa myself and mix in the sauces to get it to be a chaat. I'm used to Samosa chaat being served mixed. The samosa were also on the cold side. Choolaah is a fresh and exciting addition to Westlake's dining scene. The vibrant atmosphere, friendly service, and flavorful food (with a little tweaking on the spice level) make it a great spot for a casual Indian dining. As someone who grew up eating Indian food with friends, this is a great addition to the Westlake area. This reminds of a chipotle style restaurant but Indian food. We were greeted by the cashier as soon as we stepped into the place, she asked us if we had been here before and if could explain the menu to us. She did a great job. It was a very clean place. Very basic and not a whole lot of stuff all over the walls. Nice and clean. We ordered the Choolah bowl, perfect balance and the choolah salad. Kids loved the choolah bowl, I enjoyed the perfect balance bowl and my wife loved the salad. Only thing I would add to the menu is garlic naan, I'm a huge fan of that and it would be perfect with the bowls. read more

This place is bomb! From the food to the service everything here exceeded my expectations. Even my picky 2 year old was obsessed with the rice and Tika masala! This was our first time there, and from the moment we entered, we were greatly assisted by Chris' kindness, willingness to answer our questions, and hospitality. The food, excellent employees, and dining atmosphere was 'second to naan'! We were also pleasantly surprised to see the great Ohio native Tom Megalis' awesome abstract art work lining the walls! Lastly, the Kulfi Indian ice cream dessert, infused with cardamom, was 'to die for'. When an eatery is able to pull off great customer service, healthy and tasty food, and a welcoming fun dining area, it is a winner for sure! Tried Choolaah the other day with a small Togo order. When you enter you can either order at the counter or on the large easy to navigate self-ordering kiosks as you enter. On this visit I ordered the lamb wrap and a Mango Lassi. In my personal opinion I thought the lamb was juicy, well seasoned and cooked perfectly. The wrap it was rolled in was soft, fresh and delicious but I truly believe the wrap really needed some kind of sauce to bring it all together. I don't know if it was just missing or if I needed to specify that I wanted some kind of sauce with it. The kiosk didn't give me the option. As far as the mango lassi it did not do anything for me, I did not find it very flavorful at all. Overall I think there is potential here, but on this visit I would say it was slightly above average for me and will give it another try someday. I would recommend giving Choolaah a try if you are looking for a quick healthy options for a meal. read more

I got the Perfect Balance bowl with lamb and chose the yellow lentil to top the rice. It was delicious, a perfect combination! The lamb meatballs have great seasoning that makes it so appetizing. Two meals, $25: You get yourself plastic forks, find a seat (not a lot of seating) and wait for your cardboard bowls on pretty, colorful trays with: 1 mixed salad, nothing special and very little dressing 1 bowl with 1inch packed rice, dry, topped with a thin layer of lentils, dry, and three lamb meatballs (tasty but dry). Amazing service! Every time I step into the restaurant I feel like there's something new to look forward to. One day they're painting nails for free another day they're giving free flowers for Mother's Day. The manager is constantly there making sure if everything is good and if you need anything. I am a big fan of Indian cuisine and food is exceptional along with the pricing being relatively reasonable. The interior of the restaurant is very nice and refreshing with a modern/warm type of feeling.
