It's an overpriced ice cream place that claims to be a "bar". I'm not really sure why it's 'hyped' up on Yelp. There's the standard ice cream toppings and that's nothing extraordinary. I got a rootbeer float that could have used WAY more ice cream than the small glob they let slip halfway into the glass. I was also given a spoon with an edge that cut my lip because it had clearly been dropped in a blender and turned on. I wouldn't come here again. We stopped only for my kiddos. And I did take photos, but my kids are in them, so I'm going to leave those out. They serve Guernsey ice cream just like everyone else. read more

You have to call your order ahead before you can pick up the order. They have the door locked and will bring out the order to you. We ordered a large strawberry milkshake with no whip cream. The large milkshake is a 20 ounce cup. I also ordered a mint chip small milkshake, which is a 16 ounce less whipped cream. We also ordered a hot caramel sundae with vanilla ice cream and whip cream. I also ordered a double raspberry Italian ice in a cup. Since everything has to go the ice cream's are better in cups, than melting in a cone. The strawberry was a winner as was the mint chip milkshake. The caramel sundae was also tasty for mom. My Italian ice was different, not what I was expecting, but not bad. read more

Located in the Greater Mack corridor of Grosse Pointe Woods, we found Chocolate Bar Cafe served some of the BEST Michigan-based ice cream and sundaes that we've ever had! This cafe is one of the original Louis Alinosi ice cream parlors having begun over 100 years ago. Alinosi's Spumoni is a well-known local favorite. I ordered a scoop and was served a VERY generous portion of goodness. So flavorful were the chocolate selections that my companion nearly asked for a second sundae! Seating is located within, and there are tables outside along Mack Ave. The young servers were friendly, patient and give you free tastes to help with deciding your flavor of the day. This place is a sweet tooth heaven. My friend and I had the opportunity to pay this place a visit and we were not disappointed. They offer everything from sundae's, shakes, pastries, chocolates, coffee/latte's, and so much more. I had the s'mores latte with a chocolate croissant and my friend got a Boston cooler (ice cream mixed with vernors ginger ale). Everything was delicious. The pricing was a little high, but not too bad. Our service was great and quick and very accommodating to any changes we made in our order. I have been coming here for years! Now I bring my kids here. I must mention a update so your aware as of my most recent time in here they have new restrictions up. When you walk up there is a sign on the door saying you need to call in your order and they will bring it to the door for you. They have the menu up on the window. But this just isn't the same as being able to go in there and smell the fresh chocolate and candy fill the air. They have over 20 flavors of ice cream and dairy free ice. My favorite is their originals. They have the old school soda fountain and original bar stools and decorations from the 50s and yes this is the one from Detroit originally. If you need a sheet cake for a special occasion order it from the Chocolate Bar Cafe. Their frosting is delicious ... and I normally scrape the frosting off the cake and push it aside. I have ordered cakes from them for my kid's high school graduation parties. Everyone always raves about the cakes!! They are delicious. The Chocolate Bar cafe catered my wedding cake o 5/25/13 and let me tell you Lisa was awesome! I had a faux cake so only the top layer was real and we had a sheet cake in the back. It was beautiful and so many of my guests told me how delicious the air was. Some told me that is was the best they ever had The cake was affordable and delicious-- so you can't go wrong with that. This is such a cute place to bring the family after dinner. It has an old setting which makes the place fun to sit in for some goodies. After dinner Friday we stopped in for some delicious cupcakes. They have ice-cream, cakes, candy, cupcakes and other treats. We came for the cupcakes!!! They offer different varieties to pick from and they usually have one or two of each unless it's the daily special. The have plenty. My daughter and I fought for the carrot cake; usually my favorite. When you enter it is like stepping back in time to a real soda fountain. Perfect ice cream parlor with a pretty great history. Most of the staff are local high schoolers. They must treat their employees well because everyone is always very polite and appear happy to be there. They make their own ice cream and have classic items along with some unique combinations as well. Best cream puff ever! Alinosi also makes fine chocolates. Awesome spumoni. I tried to order a red velvet cake for my daughters birthday....the person taking my order asked what kind of filling I wanted? Huh? I said, I just want a standard red velvet cake. The cake I got had what I think was buttercream frosting, anyone who knows cake knows red velvet is typically cream cheese frosting.
