I do not care what the less fives stars department comment about. It is my kind of a place to just chill and have a cup of joe. I like the staff, totally chill and smiles alot. That is what matters, right? A chill corner- coffee cafe on the spot, monitoring the swells through the window, browse online and sometimes they have decent entertainment. This is a veteran owned business. I highly recommend it. It's overlooking the Pacifica Ocean and makes you feel right at home with its available board games and live music at particular times. The cafe was one of my first jobs as a barista after high school, it's was nice running a shop by myself. the owners Amy and Paul have been fantastic remodels, the quality of their coffee beens and recipes are unbeatable and they have trained the best baristas :) read more

I used to love the Chit Chat cafe. I'm a professor and have for years recommended it to my colleagues and to my hundreds of Bay Area students. Only an hour after I posted a pic of the gorgeous view from outside the cafe, bragging to my FB friends about my favorite writing spot today, I overheard a conversation between an employee and an older customer where they complained loudly about customers buying only coffee and sticking around for long periods of time, never buying food..... like literally every single customer there was doing that moment. I can almost understand that (except this place is a COFFEE SHOP), but then they proceeded to discuss, equally loudly, how glad they are that the customers are never black because they would be accused of racism if they cut off a black person's WiFi. I packed up my things and visited the restroom before I left. There was blood on the restroom floor. I understand that this is normal, of course, and whispered to the (racist) barista of the situation and she rolled her eyes and shouted that I would have to "speak up" because she can't understand me, so I shouted back "There's blood on the floor in your bathroom. Definitely prefer this Chit-Chat over the one at the pier. Lots of options for food and drinks. The bagel specials are always good. I go in with my daughter and another mom/baby combo...something's things get a little crazy ;) The employees are always very nice, offer us crayons and books and other little things. read more

Not a swanky place but a great deal for the prices, with a lot of windows looking out towards the ocean. In season, a great place to see the whales hang out while sipping one of many coffee offerings (my favorite, the organic Peruvian, an "almost dark roast". Nice NY-style boiled then baked bagels, not like Noahs which are more like donut shaped pieces of bread. I'm a local and this is a regular hangout for me. Hope you like it too. Pros: Cheap coffee/drinks laid back atmosphere generally not crowded decent view Cons: Terribly distracting music unfriendly staff With that said.... BEWARE if you happen to be in the cafe when the young male barista with the short curly hair...he seems to think that the cafe is his own personal living room. He usually blasts really distracting music (not sure if he is doing this on purpose to get people out). NOTE: Punk and rap ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE types of music to be blasting when people are doing work. The staff always acts like they're being bothered when you ask them for simple things like a cup of water, but I suppose that is to be expected since I think most of the workers are in high school. Overall, this is an okay play to go if you just want to grab a quick cup of coffee or stick around for an hour or so. You're taking a chance on anything more than that. Suggestion: hire older/more mature baristas and/or work on customer service. read more

Disappointment! Great location and awful attitude from the one girl working. Mumbling, zero eye contact, you might think she is forced to be here by some wretched slave master. Either she missed her meds or she is an indentured servant. Miserable experience. And chunks of suspicious debris floating in the water pitcher meant for the customers. That was special. read more

I like the location - you have a nice view of the ocean from this cafe. Food is pretty good and drinks are good. They do have free WIFi and when it is working it flies at over 17 Mbps. It was a beautiful sunny day and I wanted to correct papers and have a beautiful ocean view. That's when someone recommended Chit-Chat Cafe. I had a good seat facing the ocean which I was pleasantly happy about. I had all kinds of coffee and espresso drinks to choose from. I decided to have my caramel machiatto and a lox bagel sandwich. My caramel machiatto was divine, way better than what I would get at Starbucks! The lox bagel was amazing and that alone will bring me back to Chit-Chat Cafe. The workers were extremely nice and very personable. I will surely be back for another paper-correcting session. read more

Love this little place! I come here often... and, after reading other reviews I'm surprised to hear that people are so anti "open mic night." For Pacifica, I think it's an awesome idea. It gives kids, and adults, a great opportunity to show off their talents. When I'm not going out to some event in the city on Friday night, I most definitely try to make it over there. I saw a wonderful duo there a few Fridays back, one of them played guitar and the other sang---it was incredibly moving, his voice was beautiful, and the man's guitar was perfection. They had happened across the cafe out of chance, they were from out of town but decided to just have some fun. It was great! Their sandwiches are great, I've had the tuna and the Pacifica Special (it has pesto and turkey, on focaccia). Their chais are good and mochas are good too. The coffee is good, especially the Vanilla Chocolate :o) Some of the staff are totally nice and cool and interesting. Some of them aren't very talkative or engaging, but oh well, how much can you really ask from people? I just love that this place exists. I've compared other cafes in town to this one, and was shocked at the crappiness of the other places. I heard cafe employees at this other coffee shop I went to gossiping loudly and crudely about the customers that had just barely made it out the door. I felt very turned-off by the plastic smiles, at the other cafe. So yeah, basically the Chit Chat rules, and has character for sure. Luv it... Oh and the view?!! How could I forget. The most beautiful view ever. Right on the edge of the sea... I have met many cool locals there, too. I really love this place because it serves as a better alternative than Starbucks or any other big coffee shop. Whenever I need to study away from home, I go to the chit-chat cafe and get a white chocolate mocha. The people here are friendly and I especially like one of the workers named Melissa. She promptly made me a really good bbq pulled pork sandwich, and on multiple occasions, a very delicious white chocolate mocha. The atmosphere inside the cafe is very cozy and the ocean horizon right out the window is very beautiful. This is a great place to take respite from a rigorous day. read more

Personally, I'm a Starbucks whore. Yeah, I admit it. But I do my best to support Pacifica's businesses when I can, so I dropped in one day when running errands (post office across the street). One thing these guys have going for them... their view. At the Chit-chat, you can sip your coffee while watching the waves crash on the shore, which is literally across the street. I ordered a latte, which was tasty and the staff seemed pretty friendly, though as other reviewers have suggested, somewhat disconnected. I'd go back if I happened to be going to the post office, but for me, my sad addiction is with Starbucks. read more

It's about 430PM here on a Monday. I've been here for about 60 minutes or so. Plenty of people waked in here between 315ish and now. Most are grabbing coffee and a sandwich of some sort on a bagel or sliced bread. The place looks like a worn coffee shop but is good for doing a little work and/or conversing with a friend. The views of the ocean are good. The coffee is about the right price. The wi-fi is free using the "Linksys" connection. The Pacific.Net connection costs something. There are a few plug ins -- some by the "paid for" computers, 1 by the door and 1 potentially by the other window if they put in a power strip. Overall a good place to have a good afternoon cup of coffee, potentially a bagel. I myself went to Safeway around the corner, grabbed a few energy bars ($0.59 / each) and brought them with me to eat with my coffee. I think I will be back sooner than later. read more

Someone from restaurant makeover needs to come in and thoroughly clean this place and teach the employees how to maintain it. That is my problem , and it is a big one. I love this cozy little cafe. It's located on a bluff overlooking the ocean. It can be chilly there, but the cafe is always warm and smells great. The pastrami on marbled rye is sooo good. So one day I walked up to the counter to order. There were two young women talking when I came up. One of them stopped talking, stopped smiling and rolled her eyes after which she looked at me with a deadpan face and spoke in a deadpan tone.. Wow. I'm a pretty easy grader on yelp, but customer service is a big deal to me. It seems Ally has received a complement on a previous review which astounds me. I mean, she was so rude I thought it could have been a prank. Maybe she just doesn't like older customers, which is kind of dumb given that we're the ones with the most disposable cash. Seriously, if this had been my first visit, I would have never returned. Even if this was a one time event, Ally should be teamed up with another employee who treats customers like they're welcome rather than like an annoyance. read more

Always very good coffee and tea. A great local spot. But the one Bautista today is lacking in customer server. She seemed to be hung over or just not wanting to be at her place of employment today. I ordered a mocha and a tea. The mocha was cold. While remaking it the girl over filled the cup. Her plan was to empty some in to a different cup. She then drank the proration she emptied out. While making my tea she slept behind the counter or played on her phone. I was shocked at her behavior. So if your in a hurry you may want to skip this cafe. First off, I love independent coffee houses. I love the location of this place. I think the coffee tastes awful and the food was disgusting for years. Also, this place is always extremely dirty. The WORST is the"music" "acts" that sometimes grace the presence of this place. Sometimes they are downright terrible, other times, they are amazing. It's sure to be crawling with annoying wannabe "unique" kids who are usually loud and rude. Had hoped this place would hit it out of the park. Location: amazing, right across from the cliffs & on a day like today, what great views. Vibe: groovy. Staff was very friendly, helpful, and chill. Lots of people there, live music playing (happens most days from the looks of it!). Nice! Coffee drinks & some foodstuffs: again, yes. Places to sit inside, and of course, the cliffs outside. Sadly, the food & coffees were just okay. Egg & spinach with tomato on bagel of our choice was pretty bland, like it might expect cheese to give it some salt or something (they do get points for nicely toasting the bagels). The coffees: my husband's mocha tasted like it was made with stock hot cocoa mix. My latte tasted like drip coffee with milk. Now, some people like that, and maybe they were having a bad day, so that's why I *still* gave 4 stars. Would I give them another chance? Perhaps, if it were another epic, sunny day, but I'd also be inclined to try other places in Pacifica first. read more

My friend took me here a while back and it was great as I enjoyed the tea, company and the gorgeous view of the ocean. I recently took another friend here and was really disappointed because it was quite dirty, including the bathroom. Also, the woman working there lacked professionalism; she did not wash her hands before handling food, wore one glove since she was dealing with payments at the register and played dirty songs by Ginuwine and NEXT. I don't want to hear that while having tea with a friend! Also, she smoked right outside of the building and the strong smell of the smoke kept coming into the cafe. Having lived in quite a few places and called at least 12 coffee shops my "home away from home" to get things done, Chit-Chat Cafe is my favorite coffee shop in the world (interestingly, my second favorite is just four miles down the street in Montara). Service is incredibly friendly, the coffee is great, there's live folk music every Sunday morning, and you get a great view of the Pacific Ocean to top it all off. Terrible... The younger (lady) is rude, very rude to all of the customers. We sat in disbelief watching how she talked to all the customers. Lady, you need to take a course in professional mannerisms. It's not even that great of food but the view would have made it worth coming back for. After the way she treated us, we won't be back. I really, really want to like this place. It's such a great coffee shop and they've nailed down the coffee shop culture. If we could only get them to nail down the coffee. Service is seriously lacking and often I feel like an inconvenience rather than a coffee lover looking for a decent latte. Their sandwiches are really tasty but ordering one will cost you about 20 minutes waiting for it to be made. Multi-tasking is a non existent skill in this place.
