To the casual observer, what a cafe should be... Coffie, places to sit, and a remarkable view. I had a 16oz coffie ($1.75) and a piece of lemon cake $1.75 -- refills are $0.50. There is a selection of coffies in thermoses. The Columbian was quite good. The view is charming, and there are books to read and cames to play. It appears that there is 'free' WiFi, but YOU HAVE TO PAY to use the two terminals they provide -- that is SO 1995! Other reviewers complain about the gruffness of the staff or the lack of cleanliness, but I did not interact with the staff enough to form an opinion. read more

Chit Chat Cafe is one of those mom and pop places that we need to support. I love coming here in the mornings to get a cup of coffee/tea and/or bagel/croissant. You can't let Starbuck's take over every corner! The cafe is located right across the street from the ocean. The sun can be blinding coming into the cafe but sunsets are delightful. I personally love sunrise but don't get up that early. I have to take away marks for the staff because the regulars may be used to their gruff manner but unfamiliar clients are not. There is a guy on the weekends that does not even grunt or acknowledge you. If he is so unhappy working there, why is he there? The regulars seem to know him and love him but seriously, he won't crack a smile or grunt. The cafe also have live music but I don't know the schedule and it is just a cool place to hang out and chill. Nobody will bother you. read more

I just stop in for the caffeine when I'm in the Manor; haven't broken any bread here yet. This location tends to do a better job with espresso-based beverages than its sister cafe in Sharp Park. I like the quirky/comfy interior here better, too. But, boy, it's tough to beat the other Chit Chat's location on the pier jutting out from the beach! I guess I'll have to call it a draw (although I suppose you could pick up your coffee here and then take a quick ride to the beach in Sharp Park for a beautiful walk to get the best of both worlds!) read more

There's just something about the fog and Silent Hill-esque eeriness of Pacifica that makes me crave hot chocolate. I realize many things in that sentence do not belong together. What I'm trying to say is I usually order the hot chocolate while I'm there. Nothing special about the beverage but there's something sentimental about gulping down steamed milk and chocolate syrup by the beach. I often come here with a good friend of mine and we monopolize one of the larger tables playing card and board games. I love how neither the staff nor the other patrons are pretentious about their coffee or us lousy young'ns annexing the large table to play Monopoly Deal. There's also local artwork on the walls and a gnarly old English professor type bookshelf going on around the far back walls. The post office, Safeway, Walgreens and Camelot's Fish n'Chips are also within walking distance in case you feel like mailing a letter, or buying aspirin, or you need a Tarter sauce fix. read more

So many mixed feelings about this place. I come here quite often, semi-regularly, in a cyclical way. It's a great place to get my work done, free wi-fi, a nice, solid selection of bagels/sandwiches, plus decent coffee. The people who frequent this place are characters -typical beach town vibe. All around, a laid back, easy going vibe, no one will kick you out for being at one seat for too long. The folks behind the counter have always been very nice. But it's hot as hell in this place. It's like a sauna, every single time. Even when the windows or door is open it's still very warm. It can be a bit uncomfortable. Also, there are these little gnats/fruit flies that hang around. If they could hang a few of of those fly strips that would be most awesome instead of trying to periodically slap one out of my face. read more

This place is a throwback to a past time - it's right on the Pier, but doesn't look like much. There's limited seating inside with large windows overlooking the ocean. We had bagels and coffee for breakfast and the bagels were fresh and nicely toasted. The Pier itself is grungy with lots of people fishing. If the place was done up it would be spectacular. Not very much chitchat going on here... i went around 8pm on a worknight, so possibly not the hottest spot. There were some old looking computers available sitting on rolly desk things and folding tables. Looks like they did their facilities shopping at all those Pacifica garage sales. Probably bought all their board games at Goodwill too, because they were pretty much all incomplete, and at best usable with a few awkward substitutions. Turkey sandwich wasn't so bad... a bit messy, but it was ok. Coffee was strong, so that's fine too. I've only ever been here during the day so I can't comment on the live music or headbanging others speak of when they talk about the ambiance. I enjoy coming here because of the enjoyable VIEW and the availability of SEATING. The cafe is setup with free WIFI through znet and that's all a student looking for some place to study can ask for. I always makes sure to grab a coffee or tea and leave a large tip for the inconvenience of me being there a couple hours. The coffee menu items are just decent, but I prefer to get my coffee elsewhere or even make it at home. Every time I'm there, I get a little envious of the other patrons ordering food. They serve bagels and sandwiches for the lunch crowd and the aroma during my last visit almost made it impossible to study in. Came here because I needed some wifi to work. I ordered a regular coffee and it tasted pretty bland and a little watered down. The counter gal was not mean however she wasn't very friendly either. I couldn't rate them on the food since I didn't order any. I sat down next to the window opened my laptop and did some work and enjoyed the phenomenal sunset. It's an extremely chill and quaint kind of vibe in here and I do like the fact that they have some cute couches and nice seat cushions towards the back. Aside from the ok service I'm impressed with how beautiful the view is. It created an extremely peaceful and relaxing feel which allowed me to concentrate and plug through my work fairly quickly. Came here for a nice cup of coffee during a sunny Friday afternoon while working from home. I got a nice hot cup of mocha and got to try some of the Americano as well. They were solid cups of coffee as you would expect. The decor of the place makes it feel very cozy overall with some small tables with a view of the ocean and seating by the wall with some pillows and cushions. Though the cafe has a nice sort of old time feel to it, it does feel a little bit dirty however. The view of the ocean is very calming and nice. Having grown up in the area, I suppose I take it for granted given that I constantly see pictures of this area on social media from friends in the city and east bay. The day I came here, the windows could've used some good wiping though as it made the view a bit more difficult to enjoy. I would definitely love to come back on a nice day to do some reading, get some work done, or to chat with a friend visiting the area! read more

I've been here several times already. And for most parts, to get some studying done. I'm really liking this place. Easy parking, oceans views!!!, tables and chairs with free wifi. I get bagel and coffee and stay for a couple hours. It always worries me that I'm here for a long time but nobody has tired kick me out yet. Love this little gem of a coffee shop, right off of the ocean with plenty of room to take a good friend or watch the sun set over the cliffs. It's a great place to grab a quick bite or to read the latest Sue Grafton novel or even write a novel of your own. Let's start with the cafe food offerings. The Chit Chat Cafe on Manor offers lots of drinks (coffee, hot cocoa, chai, steamers, a bazillion and one syrup flavorings etc), sandwiches (amazing focaccia bread), bagels, desserts, sodas, etc. They offer punch cards for bagel and coffee (buy X, get 1 free). Most weekends, the Chit Chat hosts different bands or night events. There is a Beatles tribute monthly on a Saturday by two local gentleman who know their oldies. It's cute and folksy and a nice way to start a weekend. There have been open mic nights, comedy nights, and many local bands have played here. While the venue isn't huge, it is cozy and the patrons are welcoming. Also, if you need to know what's going on in Pacifica. There is a huge bulletin board where more bands advertise their latest gigs, where you can find a dog walker or nanny, or find the latest showing for the Spindrift theater. The owners also support saving the local pier and sell t-shirts for the organization collecting funds. As far as the reviews for customer service, I've been coming here for 8+ years and haven't had any service issues. They always remember to put my soy milk in (and that's something I can't stay for starbux). Sometimes the owner even serves me and she is courteous and remembers everything. If you're expecting Starbucks and a frou-frou clientele, skip it and check out Chit Chat for a hometown coffee shop that supports local artists, local bands, and the local economy. read more

Everything everyone else said, but it's one of those gem coffee / food houses you don't see anymore and deserves the acclaim. Such a friendly crowd you are actually compelled to talk to your neighbors. Great food and drink variety especially for those with veggie needs -- without the half calf decaf drama. Various games if you want to imbibe in a mean chess round or Jenga match. Many parents with kids during the mid day. WiFi. Internet in the corner. Very fresh everything. Long time locals cherish the place and it's obvious when visiting which visitors love it as well. Great Pacifica vibe. There are two Chit-Chats now, the other is at the base of the Pacifica Pier and frequented by morning joggers and the anglers. On a rainy winter day the Manor shop is best for its bigger interior but on a clear day with decent surf you can sit indoors at the pier and watch the surfers while staying out of the cold and sipping on a drip or hot chocolate. I own a reasonable Rancilio espresso rig at home and buy blue bottle hayes beans for it so no coffee shop in Pacifica can touch that for espresso drinks. Given my super-spoiled bias the chit chat shops make a good drip coffee and they can always make a fantastic kids hot chocolate. For macchiatos and caps I stick with home, Blue Bottle and Ritual. I haven't found a fourth place in the bay area that I like. Chit-Chat on the pier used margarine on a toasty bagel once when the clerk said they had butter so I wish they would come around and use the real thing. I gave back the bagel because I won't eat hydrogenated foods. To counter that cut corner--They started using ceramic mugs at the Manor shop after a few years of me asking for them :) Chit Chat is nothing like commercial joints (anyone go to starbucks anymore?) or hipster hangouts (*cough* Ritual *cough*). They don't roast beans or make a decent espresso but they are the perfect coffee shops to duck into as the ocean winds bring on a chill. I end up here at the Chit Chat a fair amount. My kids go to school down the street, so it's convenient for me if I need to get a little work done. The view definitely makes it worthwhile to enjoy. Wifi is NOT free, you can get 2 1-hour sessions by watching an ad, but after that you have to pay. Pacifica also has city-wide wifi that you can pay for as well. From time to time, I can get on the network for one of the folks in the neighborhood. There are plenty of electrical outlets, which helps, if you want to do work. Contrast to other reviewers, I actually like the music they play - some days it's 80s alternative, today we've got Beirut. They don't offer the best teas or coffee in the world, but they do have good bagel sandwiches. Staff has always been pleasant to me. The thing about this place is that coffee shops can serve as a nexus in a neighborhood or city and there's not a lot going on here in Pacifica, so it's nice to support these local folks trying to provide that. I met a friend here for lunch. Nice view of the ocean and a convenient location, but the service is not very friendly. The sandwiches are meh..not worth the $7.00. I got the seafood sandwich which is supposed to be crab, but it was imitation crab. I guess I should've known. Probably would've been better off ordering a bagel or something. Also, they were playing some kind of head-banging music which was hard to tune out. Not the "ambiance" I was looking for on a nice Sunday morning. I have been hanging out at the chit chat for many years and I think its an ok place. I really really liked it under the previous owner. It was quiet and clean and CHEAP. The newer owners changed it a bit and painted the outside bright yellow (wtf?) but they are really nice people, so I still stop in when I can. The only thing about the chit chat that isn't very cool is the stupid open mic night. Which should be called zit faced teenagers annoying me night. So, in summery, I like the chat most nights. A staple of Pacifica living, if you want to get a feel for Pacifica by just going to one location, this is where I'd go. Just imagine a sandy little towny cafe by the beach and this is what you get. A real local place right by the beach. It has huge picture windows on the side that faces the ocean which let in tons of natural light, on the downside there's a gigantic fence on the side of the road which blocks the view. Lots of little tables with chairs and benches and I think they have a chess set you can play with too (which I am always a fan of). The drinks they make are good and they have chips and ice cream too! A good selection of teas and pretty much whatever expresso drink you could want as well as a fair selection of drip coffee. The selection of people is also something to be noted, since all sorts of Pacificans frequent this place. From members of the local feminist group, to random high school teachers, kids gossiping or plotting their next schemes, young adults catching up and the occasional group of local sketchball teenagers, all sitting in the same cafe, you want it, they've got it! If you want a real local, hole-in-the wallish Pacifica cafe, The Chit-Chat is the place to be. read more

Just steps from the beach with sweeping ocean views, Chit Chat Cafe is the cutest local cafe to get a bit of reading or work done. Great coffee selection (loved the dark roast organic Peruvian) at a great price. Nice selection of bagels, pastries, and sandwiches, as well. No issues with the wifi as some others have reported. I would have to say that this little place is in the best location possible but one question is bothering me why can't they remodel or rebuild that little restaurant that is located right in the beginning of the pier to make a better place. Honestly if this place would be remodeled or rebuilder to a restaurant, they would have tremendous amount of customers. Anyways the only thing that I have ever got here is the coffee because when you at the pier you just want to have your coffee and enjoy the view. I have been on that pier dozen of times and I have never missed a chance to go to this little place for some donuts and coffee. If you are worrying about the parking, I would not because there is plenty of it along the beach and it's pretty safe. I really love this place. Every time I go to San Francisco to get someone from the airport I always drive out early to get to the Pacifica chit chat cafe to just enjoy the view, coffee and that fresh breeze that comes from the restaurant. I came here on a Sunday afternoon since I was craving an espresso drink. I got a latte, and it was made really well. Smooth and creamy with a nice balance between espresso and milk. I've had many too-milky lattes, but this one was solid. The boyfriend and his father got black coffee. They both picked Hazelnut, and it definitely had a very strong hazelnut aroma and flavor. It's right by the ocean and so the view is nice. I thought the menu looked pretty good -- a wide assortment of sandwiches and salads as well as many pastries. I come in pretty frequently and the customer service is usually really good, the girls are really nice. But when I came in this morning the older man who was working was obviously in a terrible mood, he was consistently giving me and other customers dirty looks while ordering and sighing to let us know how annoyed he was.
