I'm going to tell you right off the bat that my wife works here. There, judge me if you will, but I promise you I'll be fair in my review. Because my wife works there I could hate on the restaurant as much as I could over-sell it. ATMOSPHERE. Everyone who works there (hosts, waiters, managers, owner) is really friendly. Chad does his best to employee quality waiters. They all have a very positive energy and Chad works hard to reinforce that. The atmosphere is friendly and casual, but don't be fooled, they don't take a casual view on taste. The food is great. For the kind of restaurant that it's supposed to be, it does it perfectly. Some nights they even feature live music, like Justin and Tara from the Nightowls. FOOD AND DRINK. Honestly, it's just a great place for southwestern style food and drinks. I got the "ghost punch" the other day was incredible! When my wife first got her job there we celebrated by trying some of the specialty drinks, and every single one we tried was good. In the "ghost punch" I could tell the ingredients were fresh. At a family gathering last week I tried the pulled pork. I expected run of the mill, barbecue sauce laden, pulled pork. I was blown away by what Chad has put together. It seemed to have a hint of lime or something that made it a touch tart, but so good. (My mouth is watering as I type.) It was like no pulled pork I'd ever had before. The isn't the exception, it's the rule. That's the thing with the food here, it's all a little bit exotic. I don't love salmon, but Chisos' salmon was amazing! Try the truffle fries or the peppadew peppers, and enjoy the apple bacon slaw and Chipotle aioli. Exotic southwestern. There's only one meal I didn't love and that's because although I'm not a fan of many cheeses (especially blue cheese), I tried the blue cheese burger. The burger part was great, but the blue cheese flavor was overwhelming to me. So why did I try it? Because they made everything else so good, even things I'm extremely picky about, that maybe I'd like it. My bad. I guess I expected all the amazing I'd tasted made me just believe Chisos could make miracles. It's about time I write a review. I've recommended this restaurant to so many people. I've eaten here many times while dating my wife. Sometimes when I waited outside for her shift to end, I'd see people looking at the menu and considering whether to eat there or not. Best Fried Catfish In Austin, PERIOD! I came here originally because I heard that most of their menu is Gluten Free, but I return each week because I am addicted to their catfish. This is a really great place to take advantage of happy hour. During HH their apps are half off. The apps are HUGE portion sizes, you can easily make a meal out of ordering a few apps and sharing with someone while keeping costs low. I did not have to order an entree. My favorite app was the pork tostadas topped with apple bacon slaw. The order consisted of 6 mini tostadas, more than enough to both share and fill you up. We also enjoyed their queso. With all the quesos we have tried in the ATX, this was one of our favorites. Hubby had the chicken fried steak and potatoes, and all but licked his plate clean. It was one of his favorite meals he's had here. The service was spectacular, waters were always topped off, and food came out very quickly. There's ample seating, and a really cute outdoor patio. Once the weather cools off, we look forward to enjoying the patio and people watching the mall shoppers. Since Chisos is located in the mall, there's a lot of parking and is very convenient to pop over here for HH after a day of shopping. We used the parking garage which is directly behind the restaurant. We had a wonderful all around experience and look forward to visiting again soon. read more

We've been coming here weekly for about 2 years and we've always had a great experience. They happily tolerate our son (and the mess he leaves) and we always have such friendly servers. Plus, they always have a great selection of local beers on tap and the happy hour specials are impressive. Highly recommend the Presidio Tostadas!!! Wow. I would be surprised if this place is still open a year from now. Tequila lime dressing? No tequila or lime. Only garlic paste squirted into a metal cup. Tortilla soup is not edible. Orange colored salt soup. Fries old and hard. Salad had no cheese as stated and as boring as hell. Pork sandwich barely palatable. Overall a poor showing. The diet coke and beer were good. My boyfriend and I came to this restaurant on a Friday night around 5:30 to 6 pm. We were quickly seated and our drink order of a soda and beer was taken quickly. We looked through the menu and when the waitress came back, I explained that I was vegan. I explained to her what that meant, no animal products, no meat, no dairy. I asked if their veggie burger had dairy in it and she said yes. The only other option was a salad minus the goat cheese. I asked if there was any way they could put together some sides and make a couple tacos. The waitress, who was super helpful and trying her best to accommodate me, said that she knew the chefs wouldn't ldnt do that. When looking at the appetizers, there was a chip option with guacamole, salsa, and queso. I said that was fine as my boyfriend would eat the queso. I said we would order the appetizer and look some more. When the appetizer came, there was cheese on the guacamole. At this point, we were done. I told the waitress that we did not want the appetizer, would like to pay for our drinks and leave. She stated that the manager would want to come over to talk to us and I said that was fine. He came over and I explained the situation and my frustration. He did admit that they weren't vegan friendly and that they should look at options but I was close to austin so I should have gone there. (I just got in a car crash that day totaling my car in Austin and was coming home, trying to eat, after that situation) he then stated that they were busy and they couldn't make such modifications that i requested (sides and tortillas). I said 'so bc of my dietary choices, I shouldn't eat?' He said he would comp the appetizer we didn't eat and we would only have to pay for the drinks. His apathetic attitude was palpable. The couple next to us had this dinner half off bc they couldn't serve them the food they ordered, as a side note. We purchased a Groupon here because of highly rated Yelp reviews. The decor is pleasant and they keep the place lowly lit. It's also surprisingly huge inside. Our server was prompt and checked in on us accordingly. It was nice to have who I'm assuming was the manager check in on us as we were enjoying the meal to ensure everything was good. Now, onto the grub...We were starving when we arrived and ordered the Texas Eggrolls. They were fantastic and come with ranch. Heather ordered some salsa on the side. I had the oven roasted pulled pork dish and overall I was pleased. The pork dish was flavorful and spicy! I had it with a side of beans w/ sausage and greenbeans. I was hoping for more from the green beans; They were quite bland and I didn't finish them. Green beans happen to be one of my favorite veggies,so not finishing them here means something...Heather had the chicken nueces and her report was that the sides were good but the main dish of chicken was again bland. I had a bite and I"m in agreement. Just looking at it, you would have thought it was full of taste, but that just wasn't the case. We finished our journey with a dessert of the highly rated chocolate cake w/ whip cream and strawberry topping. Sounds amazing right?! Unfortunately, I was let down with this particular nights preparation of cake. It was very dry and Heather confirmed after the one bite she had. I tried out Chisos Grill tonight with my son and they should consider renaming the restaurant Charred and Burnt Grill. My grilled chicken was so over cooked I had to tear it apart to take a bite. They apologized and took the plate to make another...but not a minute later, my son says his burger tastes funny. I pulled back the cheese from the burger and uncovered a BLACK, CHARRED rock of meat. I called the manager over and he stated that they cook the meat on a grill and it's supposed to taste like that. I showed him the other side of the burger and the normal colored meat. He said, "yea, that's what it's supposed to look like, but sometimes the grill gets too hot". Then said, "I can make him like half a patty" since my son ate a portion of the burger. WOW!! Really?!? My husband and I stopped in to Chisos tonight. We had the pork queso and shared a pork chop- both of which were amazing!! They have a great bar menu and our bartender (I think his name is Brent?) was very helpful and nice when explaining their menu and different options. Great Hill Country Place to Chill and Eat... Gluten Free available , but great service and live bands during the week.

My wife and I went to this place tonight on a Groupon. As soon as I entered it went sour. Some hostess at the reception was spraying the benches,glass doors and entire area with Glass cleaner.So when we first walked into the place it smelled like a elementary school bathroom. 6:30 in the evening ,right smack in the middle of dinner service is NOT the time to be cleaning with Sprayway window cleaner., BIG turn off. We were seated in the dining room area as opposed to the bar area which had two local girls singing 1970's country type music.....But the restaurant left the Muzak playing in the dining room so that all we could hear was this combination of two songs colliding into a dreadful noise. Very disrespectful of the performers. This place can't seem to figure out what it wants to be. Mexican....nope....no enchiladas or tamales on the menu, but LOTS of chili type dishes with hamburgers and steaks and deep fried seafood and pulled pork. Kind of a Hispanic Bar-B-Que. Very scattered. The waiter was good and efficient . I ordered the chicken fried steak and my wife ordered the Salmon on an bed of lettuce. what I received, was in all my years of eating chicken fried steaks, a CFS I'd never seen before. A battered deep fried. STEAK. Instead of a POUNDED steak I got a tasteless, unseasoned pale unpounded steak in a batter. In all my years I have never ever seen anything as far way from a real CFS . It wasn't bad.....but if I wanted a steak...I would have ordered a steak. I think some one was just too lazy to pound the damn thing.It was kinda tough ( which is why your suppose to pound it) I ate it ...but it wan't at all impressive.Luke warm mashed potatoes. I HATE luke warm mashed potatoes.Would never order again.My wife had the Salmon which looked about half the size of comparable slices of fish I have see served in other restaurants. We had a fantastic dinner and drinks at the new Chisos location. The wait staff was super friendly and helpful. The restaurant in general feels like they have elevated their food, service and ambiance. My Black Angus steak was a perfect medium rare and delicious, the bacon wrapped pork chop was to die for. When you walk into this overly want-to-be country bar you assume that the food will only be so par, from the decor, BUT you are in for the surprise of the evening or happy hour for that matter!! The Chipotle BBQ Salmon tacos will make you feel like you were transported to a fine diner. There is not one flavor that is over-powering or forgotten. The smokiness of the BBQ Salmon complemented with the tang of the Chipotle sauce that will make you want to "slap yo momma". The tacos also have a great slaw that allows you to still feel light and airy. Let me not end this adventure to soon, the sides will make you enjoy "home cooking" in a restaurant. This restaurant is excellent! The location is conveniently located in Hill-country Galleria, right in Bee Caves, Texas, just South of Austin. Parking is a little bit of a chore, so leave yourself time, as you are trying to meet your reservation time. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The ambiance is Texas shriek upscale, so any attire is pretty acceptable. Our server was Jeff and he was extremely professional and friendly! The menu has ample selections of steak, seafood and some Mexican type items. We had the Red Fish and it was excellent. The fish was cooked perfectly and had a great seasoning. In addition, we had the Beef Tenderloin and it was cooked perfectly to medium and has lump crab on top with jalapeño seasoning. The Barracho Beans were outstanding! As for appetizers, the Queso, Guacamole and Hot Sauce Sampler is a must! The Ceviche was a great item with a lot of flavor, and was cool, fresh and just delicious! Their speciality alcohol drinks are very good. Overall, we plan to return and try other items from this restaurant! We live far North of Austin, and this was a 45 minute drive for us. We were on our way to the restaurant called Blu next door to Chisos Grill, when they told us there was a 45 minute wait. So as we went back to the car, we saw Chisos. I generally hate trying new places I haven't researched first, but hey we were hungry. Pleasantly surprised to find how big and busy the place was, we were seated at a hightop table near the bar. Our server, Brandy, was as sweet as her name. I ordered the beef (filet I think) which was divine. The accompanying cole slaw was to die for. I mean cole slaw with bits of apple and bacon! Apps were good but burgers were burnt. I asked for bacon on my burger, and when it was missing when they served it, they brought me a plate of bacon so I could make it myself. Isn't that why you go out to eat, so you don't have to make your own meal. Neither of us ate more than 1/4 of our food. When we told the server, Holly at the bar that these burgers were burnt, we told her that we weren't looking for them to take them off the bill, her response was "oh, I'm not doing that". We spoke to the manager and he wasn't really interested either. When we told him we were going to post a review on Yelp, the manager said don't bother, the owner doesn't care. Big disappointment was the charred corn on the cob side dish I ordered. It was room temp by the time it got to the table, and as I ate it, it was refrigerator-cold at the cob. Like it had been taken out of the fridge, and put on the grill but not long enough to thaw? Details make it or break it! The owner said that asparagus was expensive and that I could pay extra for more asparagus. Also, pointed out that my guest ordered a salad that was to have had pineapple and there was none.
