I first experienced chirping chicken in the early 2000s when they had a restaurant in Astoria. At the time, it was a bit a novelty (at least in Astoria and for me) to have chicken cooked whole on a gigantic grill. It was amazingly good at first. As their popularity (and novelty, I guess) wore off... their food quality declined. Fast forward to ~2013, we, at work, started ordering lunch from them ~ weekly. To be honest, I am unsure as to which of their locations. Food was hit or miss. Some times their chicken would be nice and juicy and other times you'd be getting a dry up, room temp. chunk of stuff. We have recently rekindled with this business. Again, at work, we have ordered 2X form their Upper East Side location. Their menu has grown. They even have some seafood items. They give you choice as to "how you want your chicken"... Moist, Juicy or Extra Juicy, lol! I have tried both juicy and Extra Juicy and have found no difference :D I used to think that their tomato sauce (not ketchup. Not marinara) was the bomb! Would almost rival the green sauce they give you at the Peruvian Rotisserie Chicken restaurants. Either my taste buds have changed or they have changed their recipe (Still not a bad sauce, but they now charge you $1.5 for it). Unfortunately, I can not speak for their ambiance or service since we didn't dine in. Out of 7 of us who usually part take in these office lunches, 3 (I am one of them) give them 4 stars and the remainder give 'em 3stars. They have labeled our melas and bagged them separately every time and have delivered timely. I find them to be a very good value; the 1/2 chicken dark meat individual meal comes in at under $18! Chirping chicken is consistently good about their chicken! I've been a big fan for a while and have tried a lot of their locations. The chicken is flavorful, juicy, tender and cooked perfectly! This particular location has really nice staff that always seem to have the most patience when dealing with any customer no matter how demanding. I used to get Mealpal from here, my favorite is the Greek salad with the quarter chicken. Their portions are very generous so I usually have leftovers whenever I order from here. If you're a chicken fan I would highly recommend trying them out and sticking to the chicken with bones. Chirping Chicken is a decent place to grab a quick bite. I arrived around 4:15pm on a Tuesday and the location was about half full (can seat around 15-20 people for dine-in). The cashier was friendly and as a bonus they were playing holiday music which was a nice pick-me up. I ordered a small portion of the chicken fingers with fries ($12.50). The small came with five chicken fingers. While the chicken was cooked well, it lacked flavor. The breading also was missing seasoning so overall, this dish depended on a dipping sauce to enhance its taste. I just made do with ketchup, but ended up using a substantial amount. The fries were also well done, but could have used a little more salt. The crispy exterior allowed to fry to hold its shape, yet the inside maintained the fluffy, potato texture. I would say even though the food portions are generous, the flavor is not worth $12.50. Overall, I feel like Chirping Chicken is intended to be more upscale than your neighborhood diner, and the taste of the food did not measure up to its price. read more

I really enjoyed most of the dishes I had here. We got the chicken gyro and it was amazing. The grilled chicken was fresh, the pita was warm and the yogurt sauce was a great compliment. We also got the chicken fingers and even thought they're expensive, the portion is huge. For 75 cents you're better off getting the large. My husband had the wings and also really enjoyed them. The only thing I didn't like was the Greek salad. There was so much water at the bottom of the salad bowl. I would probably get everything again except the Greek salad. read more

You order your food at the counter, they give you a number and bring your food over. The grilled chicken is absolutely delicious!! The sweet plantains are ripe and sweet. I opted for sides. I was surprised by how many differently types of options Chirping Chicken had on the menu - ranging anywhere from ribs, rotisserie chicken, wings and gyros. It's not exactly the cheapest quick meal, so you'll prob spend in the $10-15 range, but the quality is there. I went with the plain large wing plate (10 wings) and a side of black beans. The portion of black beans were huge! If I had known I'd get that much, I would have sizes down to the smaller wing plate (6 wings). It was all very good, but next time I'd get the spicy wings or another dish to try something else. Only thing we found lacking was the Mac and cheese my husband got. It tasted like easy mac.
