Umm I drove over 30 min to this place excited for Puerto Rican Chinese food and it was awful. The rice is yellow - Tasted like nothing. The "tostones" were soft and tasted old. When I told him he said he will add soy sauce tasted nothing like the Puerto Rican food I've had in Puerto Rico or in nyc. He replaced the tostones for broccoli bc no way were we eating that. Translation: This establishment is one of those unassuming places that are located in economically challenged areas yet offer surprisingly good food! They really need to do a lot of work with the aesthetics, but the place has potential. This is a straight up Chinese Puerto Rican spot ... a fusion that can't be beat! They have young Latina's taking orders up front while the Chinese guys cheffing it up in the back. The food was better than I expected and did remind me of my favorite fast food Chinese takeout back home in the Bronx back in the day. The beef and broccoli were disappointing because the meat was really rubbery. But the Mofongo was sooooo soft, like buttery soft. It was really good. The boneless spare tips were excellent but the fried rice slightly bland but nothing some soy sauce couldn't remedy. It's kind of hard to see where you have to order. It's all the way in the back. The food was solid, you get a ton of it and it's very cheap. The only issue for me is everything tasted SOOOOOO sweet. 3 Stars for a Puerto Rican Chinese spot that seems super legit, but didn't quite hit the mark. I love hole in the wall spots like this. The menu on the wall is made up of taped up pictures, the folks inside are regulars, and the owner comes around to check on everyone. Besides the authentic, low-key ambiance, the food itself was full of flavor, but didn't feel homemade at all. The orange chicken, bbq chicken, and beef pepper steak were all either way too sweet (like, syrupy sweet), or overly salted to the point of making it hard to finish. The fried rice was good, but basic and only had a few pieces of corn, but the mofongo was the disappointment. It was oddly buttery to the point that everyone felt the main flavor was that of butter. I've never had that in mofongo before and we ended up leaving most of it behind. Overly salty and overly sweet as the dishes were, they packed flavor. And I would recommend ordering the fries, which are fried to perfection, to dip in the extra sauce and the pink sauce at the counter. If you've not had this heavenly sauce (ketchup, mayo, and garlic), I implore you to order fries immediately and use them simply as vessels for this pastel deliciousness. The chicken & broccoli is obviously something they don't make on a regular basis. By the way the young lady who finally picked up the phone when I called to complain took forever to understand my concerns. My 9 year old has more of a professional phone etiquette.
