Ramen spot on a corner in Long Beach with a spacious interior. Service started out fine, but when I asked if there are any ramen broths that I could have that don't contain soy, the waiter brought over a manager who said he "can't guarantee it doesn't have soy sauce" and pointed at a miso soup base for me instead. I understand there may have been a language barrier, but the body language this person had, showing he was immediately offended when he walked over was very off-putting and made me not want to order at all. I ended up searching the rest of the menu on my own and my friend got her app and noodles, basically finished it before I got my food. Then I began eating and that's when her drink arrived. It wasn't busy when we went and yet the service was still so poor. My sashimi was good, but based on the service I received, I will not be returning here. read more

Food was absolutely amazing. I'm not sure if the owners understood that if you open up a ramen restaurant that even on a Wednesday night it'll be packed. The 4 stars are for the extremely slow service. It took more than 15 minutes for my waiter to come take my order. After looking around I think there was only 1 waiter. I kept hearing the sound from the register/online orders. It was annoying because it seemed like they had a preference of the online orders to the in-restaurant service. read more

While the dining landscape seems to have been overrun by Ramen places, it's always noteworthy when one stands out from the rest. Yes, Chi Ramen is that place. Occupying a corner space a few blocks from the Long Beach boardwalk, it is easy to find. Adorned with natural wood decor that imbues the space with warmth and Japanese authenticity, it is even easier to give it a try. We were immediately impressed by a wide variety of items on the menu ranging from Ramen, rice bowls, traditional Japanese appetizers, sushi, rolls to desserts. For starters, we had the pork belly bao, diced pork belly, tuna tartare and shrimp tempura. All were delicious and generously portioned. For entrées, I had the Hawaii Poké bowl and my wife had the pork Ramen. Again, both were excellent. During the time we were there, alcoholic beverages were not available. One thing notable is a lunchtime discount of $2 off main dishes, like Ramen and rice bowls. In conclusion, Chi Ramen is a great addition to the dining scene in Long Beach, New York. The only reason I denied them a fifth star is the long wait for the food to be served. Let's just hope it's growing pains for a newly opened establishment.
