So loved the Japanese looking sushi spot Nice and cool that the ladies dressed in kimonos. Front desk hosts are were nice and welcoming . The older waiter lady was nice and sweet but was rushing in nature when we were asking questions about the saki types and recommendations. And suggested the more expensive one instead of any of the lower ones . The cheaper two are the ones we got and they were pretty good glad we didn't choose her choices . The menu looked very plane and looks as though lack of effort was put into it . My main reason for the 3 and I thought of giving them a 2 but held back is due to them charging me EXTRA 2.00$ on three rolls JUST BECAUSE I SAID no CRUNCH!!!!!!!! I do this in every sushi spot for as long as I been eating sushi and nobody has ever charged me extra to take anything away before. And their excuses was that we add extra fish and scallop to your rolls . If so much crunch is added to your rolls that you have to sub it out for so much extra fish than that is a problem in itself Don't you think????? Last minute decision. Went in considering reviews and wasn't impressed. Seems like it's mostly for locals. Local place that can use some cleaning. Excellent always. Clearly the best in Long Beach, and likely within top 3 on South Shore in Nassau. Top 1 to me when comparing to restaurants that do sushi without the added new trendy asian soups like pho or trendy omikase offerings. They do the basics extremely well. Although small, they maximize their space very well. It is busy every evening, especially on the weekends. Since sushi and the beach are both very near and dear to my heart, I was so excited to venture to Nagahama Sushi in Long Beach with my boyfriend for Valentine's weekend! It was packed, which I honestly take as a good sign, and the vibe inside the restaurant could be described as 'sitting inside a cozy living room,' and I mean that in the best way possible. This spot has a homey feel with lots of history, and apparently, Nagahama literally means Long Beach in Japanese, which is just so perfect. Okay, so now onto the food! We started out with two Toro sushi pieces, fatty tuna, which was certainly an *exquisite treat.* We then ordered the Incredible Tuna appetizer, and it was, in fact, INCREDIBLE. This app was essentially a crispy spicy tuna tar tar with tuna tataki in a ponzu sauce that I practically wanted to drink by itself, LOL. We also ordered the yakitori appetizer, and the chicken was super flavorful and tender. For our entree, we went with the sushi and sashimi combination platter, and may I just say that the fish was sooooo silky and smooth and sooooo good. The fresh salmon roll we selected for this platter was also such a pleasant surprise -- we never were that over the moon about a salmon roll before, and we've sampled lots of sushi over the years. (Pro-tip: we got a side of spicy mayo and saved the rest of the ponzu sauce to have with the bowl of rice that the platter came with as well!) When we finally went we sat at a table the place was pretty busy, we ordered a small hot sake it was really good we ended up getting a large after. We did get a few different sushi rolls they were good but not as good as I was expecting. Service was iffy our server was all over the place, it took us a while to get our order in and he didn't come check up on us. Great sushi spot! I've heard so much about this place since I moved to Long Beach and finally went to try it. I went with a group of 4 on a Friday night and the wait actually wasn't too bad! It's a small place but we were seated pretty quickly. The food was amazing and the staff was so nice and friendly. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because our food took about an hour to come out after ordering. I was with a couple who frequents the restaurant and they said this doesn't usually happen. I will definitely be coming back because everything was so delicious! read more

Nagahama is our go-to sushi spot in the area. As sushi lovers, I haven't found a spot I love more on Long Island than Nagahama. The David Roll is by far my favorite roll on their menu, closely followed by the Howie roll. Service is quick, which is important given how busy they can be. I just love this place and wish it were closer to me. Sure this place serves up some fresh sushi/sashimi and tasty rolls at a reasonable price, but what gets me is the service and how kid friendly it is. We brought our two young kids to this place for an early dinner to avoid the crowd. It was still fairly busy with no lines though. We sat down and ordered several rolls, sashimi, and yakisoba. Our food came promptly and everything was delicious and fresh. The waitresses and especially one of the owners (grandma-type) were so friendly and kept our kids entertained the whole time. The owner even had training chopsticks held together with rubberband and pocky sticks when the kids finished their food. Great food with great service that made you feel like part of a family. What a contrast to the popular Long Island sushi restaurant (with several branches) that serves up great sushi but has very impersonal service and no high chairs. read more

The trouble with Long Beach is the lack of inventive cuisine. There is the creperie and Sugo, though not enough mind-blowing fare and many mediocre spots. We came here after a day at the beach because I was so hungry and craving sushi.. This place was packed on saturday night and judging from the yelp reviews I think they are a very popular joint here in Long beach..There was a cute old lady at the front I am assuming she is the owner, she greeted us with a big smile when she brought us to our table. The food itself was pretty good, we ordered the sashimi deluxe and 3 rolls and the fish was pretty fresh and the rolls were pretty flavorful as well. The price is reasonable here also, however my review is more for their service we received here. My husband ordered diet coke which never came. When he asked the waitress about the coke, she was a bit rude about it, she kept asking us if she was the person we ordered the coke from as if we were accusing her of not bringing us the coke when she wasnt the person taking our drink order, it made me a bit uncomfortable, i dont care who took our order, we werent accusing anyone, we just wanted the coke.... Then it took forever for the sushi to come out. I think we waited 20 mins with no food and no one coming to let us know the state of the food. We overheard the old lady in the front speaking japanese to another lady working there, being japanese, my husband asked her politely in japanese how much longer our food will take, instead of letting us know the status of the food, she pretended all of a sudden to not understand japanese and just walked away. It is like a slap to our face. We thought maybe we made a mistake and she is not japanese, but then we heard her speaking in japanese to the other waitress again and we were certain she understands the language.. If you are japanese and own a japanese restaurant, do not pretend you dont speak the language when confronted by a japanese customer. There is also a chinese waiter here who is very rude. I guess the business is so good here they dont really care too much about the service. Lucky that i was a little drunk from the wine so I wasnt too upset about my experience lol read more
