Had the opportunity to fly from California to New Hampshire but had the dilemma of how to get my SUV home. Called a few places and ended up talking with Aleksandra from Chips. Filled out the online paperwork, used my credit card to pay and agreed to a date of transport. From west coast to the New Hampshire area was $2100. We flew home vs 5 days of gas/hotels/meals etc. so we thought it was a good option. They called 24 hours before pickup and let me know time of arrival. Put the car on the carrier and waved goodbye. Car arrived in Mass 4 days later and at the final destination a total of 6 days from pickup. Communication before pickup and dropoff perfect. I have been using Chips for about six years now. Overall service has been ok, but this year was not so great. First of all I brought them my car on a Tuesday and the person who checked me in had no idea when my car would be leaving. In fact it sat there for four days. I finally called them on day three and the person on the phone mumbled something about a broken down truck getting out of the shop that day or the next day and it would "probably" go then. On day four I called again to see if my car was leaving and the person who answered said they were loading four trucks that day so "chances are" it would leave that day. It did finally leave that evening and went a short distance into CT from MA. It then sat there for 24 hours before leaving again. I don't know what that delay was all about. It finally arrived in FL one week after I dropped it off. I understand that they don't guarantee any delivery time, but the communication is terrible. I think I should be notified when the car is leaving, and certainly if there is a delay on the road of 24 hours I should be notified. I am also convinced that the first car I had them transport sustained two symmetrically placed small dents in the rear bumper, which they tried to tell me must have been caused by a shopping cart hitting my car at some point, which would mean a cart hit my car in two spots at equal distance from the side of the bumper. I know there are a lot of transport companies, so it's time to shop around for better service. read more

At 1st Kevin was attentive & nice answered my 3 calls each time before I booked. Then things drastically changed. Kevin, rude without explanation & HUNG UP ON ME. Terrible attitude to me as well as my contact person at the pick-up. MANY BROKERS ARE SUCH SCAMMERS just like I was warned about, all Kevin cared about was the deposit which I later learned from an honest brokerage company. Kevin earns part of that money as his pay so once they get the deposit, he was a total RUDE DUDE! I tried to explain to him in a call he just stated he was not the driver & had no control & hung up on me. I tired calling again & again he refused my calls. I have tried repeatedly to resolve my issues and Chips has made NO effort to resolve them. NEVER ANSWERED ME AGAIN. Watch out for this guy. Kevin, he quotes one price, then at contract raises it and then when the carrier gets there, they change it again saying the vehicle is not running. STAY FAR AWAY. Be sure not to sign a contract, UNTIL YOU HAVE THE TRUCK DRIVERS COMPANY NAME & PHONE NUMER to ask the final price & ALWAYS USE THE BBB, you have to watch out for the companies that are ACREDITED WITH THE BBB since they pay for GOOD RATINGS. Funny CHIPS does not have a single review GOOD, BAD OR INDIFFERENT. Lastly do not hire for the lowest price this is the mistake I made. The measure of a company is NOT how they handle things when everything goes fine, but how they handle things when there are problems. My 2020 BMW X6 M50i, a $90+K car, was shipped from Massachusetts to California in early September. It was expected to arrive in 14 days, but ended up showing up in only 7, in Los Angeles. We agree to drive from San Diego to pick it up and save a couple of days so we could take it on our upcoming road trip vacation. To make a long story short, the vehicle had been damaged in transport and needed to be repaired at the closest BMW dealer, to the tune of about $1,500. Not only did Steve Ward, the transport manager at Chip's arrange to have it paid directly, he also took care of our $750 car rental for our vacation. I infrequently write reviews but I thought it was worth sharing my experience since this is the second time shipping with them cross-country. I'll start with saying my car is a lowered 09 Subaru WRX that and doesn't have much ground clearance, as a reference of difficulty to get shipped. I've used Chips for more than a decade, and been happy. This year, my treatment has been abysmal. After my car did not arrive on schedule in Boston four days after Florida pickup, I called. The dispatcher said, oh your car is stuck in Raleigh. The transmission failed in our carrier two days ago and we're seeking an alternative! I was referred to Chips transport by Dependable Auto Shippers (DAS) through a local dealer, Baystate Ford. I found out after 10+ days that DAS was not at all dependable, however I found the communication and business practices of Chip's transport to be nothing short of theft. DAS apparently owes (ed?) Chips money and according to Chips sent at least 2 transports to Chips to pick up my car that were refused access to my car. I repeatedly called Chips to get status updates on whether my car had been picked up and was simply told "no". After coming to the conclusion that DAS would not be able to ship my car I flew from Kansas to MA to pick up my car at Chips. Chips told me about their refusal to release my car to the DAS shippers AND then told me I had to pay storage fees for the period of time the car was on their lot and held hostage. I signed a release and paid hostage clearance fee of $314 to get my car, because at that time I just wanted my car and wasn't going to waste more time and money to fight the rip-off charges. Later, I found out the tire inflator in the trunk was missing and was told by the selling dealer that it was in the trunk when they dropped off the car. Chips claims they wouldn't have removed the inflator and suggested the dealer must not have included it. The dealer has been good to work with and Chips has been a complete scam so I don't believe that Chips didn't remove the inflator. I have tried repeatedly to resolve my issues and Chips has made NO effort to resolve them. If you want a predictable and pleasant experience avoid Chips! read more

DO NOT waste your time. Charged my card for not doing a thing. Disorganized and bait/switch. One week shipping changed to 2 weeks in shipping my BMW from Boston to Berkeley. Too many screw ups, too disorganized. Final was when they came to pick up car with flat bed and told me to empty back seat with a down comforter. Told them it was hiding TV and they said too bad. One person said no contents in passenger cabin and only in trunk and another said nothing at all. So they refused to take the car and then charged a fee for showing up. Realized later that since the driver was over 350 lbs his fat belly would not allow him to fit in car to drive up ramp of flatbed unless he could put seat all the way back. Used American Auto Transport in E. Walpole and they were easy, organized, and cheaper. read more

Headline: Our car was picked up on time, delivered before expected. However, it was infested with ants and there was some payment communication issues. Details: We got a quote from Chip's about two months before our move. It was competitive and we'd heard about the company from a moving company representative were getting a different quote from who said he'd used them five times and they'd be great each time. The process of booking the move was easy and straight forward. As promised, we got a call beforehand to arrange the pick up time. He showed up on time and was lovely. He inspected the car and loaded it onto the carrier. He confirmed that we could call the company to check on the status if we'd like but that we'd also get a call the day before it's delivery confirming the time. To our delight, the car was delivered much earlier than expected. From Arlington, VA on a Monday to Austin, TX on a Friday. We had two problems as the car was delivered: 1. When the car arrived, it was delivered by a different company. We'd paid our deposit but he of course requested the remaining balance. I said I'd grab a card, to which he replied that they only take cash or check. I certainly didn't have $750 in cash in my wallet. We were moving across the county but THANKFULLY I'd stuck our checks in a folder that I had with me. If we hadn't had them, I'm not sure what we'd have done. This would have been fine if I'd have known and been able to prepare for it. We paid the deposit with a credit card so I assumed we could pay the balance in the same manner. 2. The car has ants. My husband signed for the car (it's his primary car) and once we put it in the driveway, I opened the door to the backseat and there were dozens of ants crawling around on the floor and up/down the door frame. Upon closer inspection, they were all over the car. We've had to have it professionally deep cleaned once already -- we took it immediately that hour despite the fact that our movers had just arrived and we were trying to direct the unloading -- and we've continued to see some stragglers. I worry it'll be months before they're truly gone. Frustrating in particular when driving around our two small children, one of which has already FREAKED out because she has ants crawling on her in her car seat. :( We were happy with the initial process and the timeline for delivery but ants on the back end has really spoiled our experience. read more

At the age of 73 and embarking on my first "bucket list" experience, I wanted to ship my BMW Z4 Roadster from Rhode Island to Portland, Oregon (my previous home). On August 24th, I dropped my car off at the Chips terminal in Walpole, MA. On August 5th, I arrived by plane in Portland, OR. I was notified the day before that my car had arrived and I was able to go from the airport and pick up my car. The car arrived without a scratch. This exceptional level of service was unexpected and very much appreciated. After a few wonderful weeks on the road, Chips schedule me to drop the car off at a terminal in San Mateo that was a connection in their national network. Chips told me that the train station, with an hourly train to San Francisco was right across the street from the terminal. On September 21st we dropped the car off and walked across the street to the train that took us into downtown San Francisco. What could be better than this On October 1st, Kevin Jr. called me and said my car had arrived back at their terminal where I went to pick it up. It arrived home without any damage. I could not find even a slight scratch. This is my fourth time shipping a car cross-country and, while all of my experiences were good, I have never had such rigid and narrow time windows or the need to drop the car off on a certain date and leave it to be shipped home. Chips was the only auto transport service that I could find that had the capacity to do it. There were no promises, but in the end, Chips exceeded my most optimistic expectations and I am very grateful. I would not hesitate to use them again, or to recommend them. I've used the company for the past 3 years to ship my car to Florida and back. This year their prices went up and they used a different transport. My right rear brake line was yanked down onto the axel by a shipping strap and I lost my brakes while driving. When I brought this up with Steve (with pictures to prove this) he said he would look into it, then told me to pound sand. All I wanted was a break on my return trip. Very happy with the service I received with Chip's Transport. I was very nervous about shipping my Audi from Massachusetts to California, but Chip's made the the whole process extremely easy. I asked for a quote online, and received a call the next business day from a nice man who explained the whole process. I then scheduled the dropoff, but my schedule kept changing, and the Chip's people worked with me to find a new date several times. Everyone I worked with was extremely patient and pleasant to talk to, but I will say Paula was the most so (as other reviewers have mentioned). She doesn't make you feel rushed at all, and I had tons of questions and called several times. Anyways, I dropped off my car, and despite the originally projected 10-14 day delivery time, it was delivered exactly one week after dropping it off which I was thrilled about. The car was dirty (as expected of course) and otherwise in the exact condition I dropped it off in, as well as not even another mile added to the odometer. The details: Just the facts: Car pick up in San Diego going to Boston. I paid a few thousand dollars (paid in full) in advanced. I talked to the people at Chips (Paula, very nice person) several days prior to my car pickup in San Diego and was told they would pick up on the morning of 11/13/17 between 0800-1100 and I was told I would be called the day prior. No call the day prior. I was home waiting for pickup and I called and was told the person did call the day before. Nope, checked my voice mail, checked all calls and nothing. I was reassured by Paula that they would call in a few minutes. NO call. I called Paula back and she was surprised they did not call. Finally someone called and told me they were NOT picking up that morning but would pick up between 5 and 8 PM! Would have been nice to know! When they dropped off my cars in Boston the driver called and said he was here. I tried to talk to him but he seemed in a hurry and hung up on me. I tried to call him back (important to know where he was planning to leave my cars and important to communicate the location of my apartment drive way, as the there was more than one drive way. Instead of discussing with me the driver decided he would put the cars illegally on a very busy street (Huntington Ave) in a bus stop! I walked outside my building and called and the guy actually answered and talked to me but WOW, he was amazingly rude; indeed he could have won an award for his rudeness, gosh I wish I had it recorded, it could have gone viral. Essentially he said: " I did not answer the phone because I was getting the cars off the truck, they are over here on the street already off the truck, you need to come over here and get your cars" Well, I had to call my wife to hurry and help me move the cars out of the illegal spots. I was lucky a bus did not come by. Stressful. The guy could not have been less concerned about: 1. leaving my cars in a bad place. 2. me as a human being. Golden rule guys: I don't expect to be treated like royalty but why be super rude? Why not try to communicate? I literally spent thousands to transport cars all across the county, why not spend 5 min talking to me about the best place to drop them off? 5 min of communication (2.5 min the day before pickup and 2.5 min the day of drop off) would have helped. Also, why be so rancid? Would you treat your family like this? Happy Thanksgiving by the way, I am thankful I am done with you, but sad I cannot recommend your service. Great experience with Chip's. After another auto shipper canceled on me 4 hours before the end of the last day of their 5 day pickup window ("we ran out of trucks"), I got in contact with Chip's. At this point, I was leaving to fly across the country in 48 hours. They worked with me to set up terminal-to-door shipping so I could drop it off the day I flew out even though they couldn't have a truck there until two days later, and the whole process was pretty seamless. They used their own truck instead of contracting the job out, so there wasn't much scheduling risk, and everyone I dealt with was extremely friendly, professional, and helpful -- driver, sales/scheduling folks, etc. To top it off, there was great customer service. I had the cell number of my contact at Chip's as well as the driver, and was able to reach someone any time I had questions, even after business hours. I got my car exactly 7 days after they picked it up, with no stress on my end. Four stars instead of five because there were a few missed bits of co-ordination (one missed fax to the terminal I dropped off at, and they forgot to charge my credit card for a 50% deposit, but I just paid all cash on receipt of the car instead), and a couple of very small scratches that weren't there when I dropped it off -- but they resolved all the issues within the hour when they became aware of things, so I can't complain too much. I will give zero star if I can. We used this company to deliver the car to California. At the time of delivering, the driver told us that our car 'was locked by itself' and he cannot operate it. He asked us if we have another key, we said yes but it is in our hotel room which is about 5 mi away. He does not want to wait and said he has a way to open the car lock and then walk away without telling us how he will do that. We waited for about one hour and the driver drove our car back, again, without telling us how he opened the car. We did a walk around to inspect the exterior and it looks just fine. Then he urged my wife to sign the paperwork because he 'has to leave to deliver another car'. Immediately after we opened the front door on the driver's side, we saw lots a scratches and dents. This was a brand new car! We called the office to discuss this, but the person ( I do not want to mention his name here) rudely hang over my phone after I told him what happened to my car. When I called him about the forth or fifth time, he ask us to send him the pictures of the damage and we did so. About five minutes after we sent the email, we called him again, and again, and again, but he never answered the phone. AVOID this company if you can. read more

The freight forwarder delivered my car to Chips Transport's lot and they just kept it there until I came to pick it up. AS I could not find my car because the original company that I hired lost track of it, but finally found it, low and behold it was at Chip's transport, but chips never alerted me that they had it. I had to call them three times to get verification that they had it , whereas they are suppose to be the one calling me to put me at ease after all I am the customer right? Finally the dispatcher called me telling me that he had my car and that because something was not signed for release I would have to wait another 4 days for my car! Paula at Chip's Transport was fantastic! She put me at ease right away. I had read about bad experiences people have had with other transporters - Paula allayed all my fears. She was patient, friendly, and addressed any concerns I might have had. We were able to drop off our cars at Chip's well before we were scheduled to leave the Boston area. The cars were stored in a secure location until the truck was ready to go south. We talked with the owner's son who also put us at ease about the company and their reputation. We asked that Chip's handle the transport, if at all possible, which they did (instead of finding another trucking company to take our cars south). This morning, we received a call from the driver, Dan, to say that he was a couple of hours away and would like to deliver the cars, if it was convenient. Dan was a day early, perfect for us! He powered through the snow storm pounding the mid-Atlantic this weekend. We chose to meet the truck at a shopping area parking lot near our house to accept delivery. Dan was very careful when taking our cars off the truck and both cars look perfect - they have the same scratches in a few places as when we dropped them off. I used Chips to move my car from Boston to Florida at the recommendation of Herb Chambers BMW in Boston. Chips doesn't move your car door to door. They use companies with smaller trucks for that "last mile" service into your neighborhood (at last in my experience) Anyway, their time estimate was accurate and the contractors they used at the end to get my car to my driveway were nice, polite and careful with my car as well. I was told that they have their own trucks and salaried drivers. Then, 9 days before my move I was told that they needed me to mail them a money order for the full cost. When I asked why they needed this that they would not be able to do it so they had to hire an independent driver with his own truck to ship my car. I was also told that it would take 8 - 12 days instead of the 4 days that I was told originally. I told them that I will have to explore my options because this is not appropriate business practices. Five minutes later I got a call from a supervisor who tried very hard to get me to send them a smaller sum of money via money order and they also tried to tell me that hiring another independent driver with their own truck was not sub-contracting. This is a lie. Chips Transport is operating as a Broker. They do not do the work themselves. They lie about deliver dates, lie about the way money changes hands, they only accept money orders, they sub-contract their business to Joe Blow down the street and change the story as to what their "standard business practices" are multiple times. I strongly recommend that you stay away from this company. They think that because they don't post your business to a public forum for bid, that they are not a broker, then fact is, they are subcontracting their work out and therefore are brokers. DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY. I fired them and canceled the pickup. Update for Kevin W's Comment: Again the story changes. Your sales guy and the woman who called told me that you are not brokers. You have also just confirmed that the days it will take for the shipment keep changing (From 4, to 8-12, to now 4-7 days). Your guy did tell me that I could pay the driver at first, until he called me back a week before the move to tell me that I needed to send him the money in full. Your other employee who called me 5 mins later then also tried to get money out of me and never once did they say, after that second call, that I could pay the driver. NO EMAIL was sent with respect to this request. NO ONE offered to have the driver call me so that is also a lie. Whereas you think it is funny, to joke about your bait and switch tactics and the ways in which you manipulate your customers, the statements you made are inaccurate. Not once did any of your employees express the things you claim. I understand why they would lie to you though, perhaps if you monitored you employees as closely as you do your internet reviews, you would not be losing business. Horrible! We hired them to move our Cadillac Escalade from MA to FL. They hired a company out of ME to move it without telling us. The company damaged the vehicle during shipping. (The company from ME actually told us they were training a new driver who didn't know how to load the car) We incurred $1,500 worth of damage and Chips Auto did nothing for us. They market themselves as a high end transport service. The facility is a dump and they are no different than any of the others. read more

Chip's was excellent. Referred to them by friends, who used them to ship cars from the northeast U.S. to the southeast U.S. and back. We sent a car with them from the northeast to the midwest, and their service and professionalism was door to door. The time for delivery door to door was less than a day - incredibly fast, with no damage to our car and far less than even one mile of mileage added to our car. Paying and tipping Chip's and G-Hub Auto Transport, whom Chip's also contracted, was a great investment which spared us from one or two motel nights + 1,200 miles of additional driving + tolls + food/drinks + a lot of time spent by two of us + all of the personal stress if we had tried to move the car ourselves. If I could give these folks a zero I would. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY! Every single thing they promised they would do they did not do, starting with any follow-up calls or meeting any deadlines. Here's what occurred: 1) We chose to ship our son's car from their terminal to the Santa Clarita area on one of Chip's trucks on August 11th and were told by Paula that it would arrive around the 18th. It didn't. 2) So we called and spoke to someone who said that "it usually takes two weeks; our car would arrive on Thursday, the 24th. This meant we needed a rental car for longer. A nasty surprise. 3) We received no notice on the 23rd, so we called again. This time we found out that their truck had broken down somewhere across the country and now our car "might arrive on the weekend or maybe - Monday, the 28th." The truck was in New Orleans! 4) I spoke with Paula and she couldn't give me any exact date but told me that I'd hear back from "Operations" about our situation and my complaints. I also demanded at least a partial refund due to the cost of needing to rent cars and to take other transport as our son was now stranded without his car in a strange city. 5) Operations never called me back. So now it is Wednesday the 23rd at 9:00 PM and we have no idea where our son's car is, whether it's okay, or when it is going to arrive at or near his home. I should have heeded the warning signs from the get-go when no one seemed able to recall any of the details of our contract and consistently did not return my calls when I was trying to give them the business.
