Very disappointed. First off, my fries were burnt. I hate when my fries are crispy so definitely not happy that they are burnt. I had even requested that they be lightly cooked, and the waitress said " I'll make sure of it. !"... well that didn't happen. Secondly, the fish had no flavor whatsoever. The batter on them was dense rather than flaky. Thirdly, the poster was nowhere to be seen just like Carmen San Diego! How do I known that this is going to be such a disappointment I would not have tipped so well. (You pay for your food in advance) I may try again, but I really doubt it. Chippy is located in the heart of Sebastopol. We stopped by to get something quick to get our day going. I got the fish and chips and my partner got the chicken sandwhich. He really enjoyed the chicken sandwhich, for me it was a bit crispy. But it is worth the money they give you a large piece of chicken unlike other places. Service here is minimal, you order upfront and they later bring out the food. The spot is also on the pricier side, the meal was around $55 for both plates and 2 lemonades. Now the fish and chips had 2 fish (pretty large) and some chips. The cauliflower was delicious and for me was the hi-light of the dish. But the actual fish lacked salt and had more breading than fish (my humble opinion). Cool spot to try for-sure but for the price I was expecting to really love it, which wasn't the case for me. Welcome to The Barlow Chippy! My family and I dined in on Father's Day and you best believe we tried just about everything on the menu. Standout, as expected, is the crispy beer battered cod. Perfect ratio batter to fish, fresh local cod, and a thick tartar sauce to pair. While the arancini and calamari were delicious, their accompanying sauces didn't hit for me. Though my brother really enjoyed the remoulade (horseradish sauce), so I know it's just preference. I love the simple but bright nautical decor and the service/food was relatively quick. This is a nice, casual spot with an "order at the counter and seat yourself" setup. It's a quick, no-fuss lunch or a laid-back dinner. I came for the traditional fish and chips, and the batter honestly reminded me a lot of KFC's recipe. It was okay--crispy and decent flavor--but maybe a bit different than the classic beer batter you might expect. The hit of the meal, though, was the fried chicken sandwich. The chicken was extra juicy, and it came on a bun with a perfect, slightly chewy texture that held everything together beautifully. This would be my recommended order if you visit. Amazing service at Chippy's and the food was great! The owner brought my dog water since it was an especially hot day and came to make sure we were doing alright several times. He gave us a free tartar sauce since we ran out (seriously the best tartar sauce I've had) and made sure we were taken care of. First of all, it tasted like the food had been cooked in rancid oil. Secondly, the calamari was undercooked and slimy. Third of all, the cashier/bus boy/server was taking trash off of tables and scraping plates into garbage cans (that he would touch to pull out) and then grabbing fresh plates of food to deliver them to tables. Sweet kid and I don't blame him because he had too many different kinds of tasks, but it was not hygienic. We won't be returning. I miss Acre Pasta! read more

The fish was incredibly fresh, perfectly flaky, and wrapped in a light, crispy batter that stayed crunchy to the last bite. No greasy mess--just perfectly cooked fish that practically melted apart. We made it a family taste test: * Fish & Chips: Easily one of the best I've had. Crispy outside, tender and flaky inside. * Wagyu Burger: My son ordered it with just cheese and a bun (classic kid style), and judging by the speed it disappeared, it was a winner. * Chicken Sandwich: My wife couldn't stop talking about how juicy and flavorful it was. I managed to sneak one bite before she defended it like a mama bear. * Shrimp Appetizer: Fantastic. Crispy, perfectly cooked, and the ideal way to start the meal. The fries were hot and crispy, the tartar sauce was excellent, and even the pickled vegetables added a nice little touch to round everything out. The atmosphere at The Barlow makes it even better. Grab a table outside, relax, people-watch, and enjoy some seriously good food. Craving a good grilled fish sandwich, so drove out to The Barlow. Price is right, but could definitely use some flavor on this sandwich and less salt. Cole slaw is very mediocre and strongly vinegar based. Sadly probably won't be back, but wish this place well. read more

Server was nice but food took FOREVER to come in. About 30 minutes for only a burger and fish and chips. We were also the only people in the restaurant. Fish and chips were cooked in a burnt oil, it was inedible and caused stomach aches afterwards. The burger was good though. read more

I'm not sure what is up with the low reviews. I've eaten here twice and I think it's some of the best fish and chips I've had. It's not greasy at all and the batter has good flavor. Fries are fine as well, but those are pretty standard. Outside of the UK definitely worth a try. read more

We wanted to love this as we love fish and chips. The first time we tried to eat here, they ran out of fish. That was 7 pm on a Friday night. We just tried again and unfortunately we will not return. Wow! What an amazing hidden gem! I had the best fish and chips I can ever recall having. The tartar sauce was top tier and they have a garlic aioli for the fries (chips :)) that topped any aioli I've ever had. I asked and they make these both in house. Cute and cozy dining area inside and a great outdoor patio when the weather is nice. My husband got the clam chowder and it was perfect! Not too thick and it actually had clams and wasn't full of potatoes. I can't wait to go back to try a sandwich! read more

I would definitely try if you live in Sebastopol. I don't know if I would ever crave or need to go back but I'm so glad it tried it. The fish was well breaded and the tartar sauce was very good. It did take around 30 minutes to get 3 dishes, I think this was due the fact that there was only one chef in the kitchen. I am sure that with time that long wait will get better. I hate leaving bad reviews of new places, however I really want this place to succeed! Can you please take another stab at your clam chowder recipe. It may have been the worst, most watery, bland chowder I've ever had. I had to stop eating it. This should literally be the star of your restaurant. People should flock from all over the Bay to come for just this. You're lucky because if you do this ONE thing absolutely right, people will keep coming back. Crowd source testing this would be helpful or even have people submit their recipes or a clam chowder taste off would be great...invoke the community. Many restaurants have to do all the things right, however you have a singular hook that needs dialing in and boom! Sitting only 15min from the ocean with some pretty high competition the bar has to be raised. Good luck and hoping the chowder recipe gets reworked...for my own selfish reasons. I don't want to drive to Bodega Bay every time I want good clam chowder. Marketing a combo meal as "Chowder and a Carafe" would be cute!
