Our Lunch here had the feeling of being among family. Maybe it was the warm (and busy) restaurant…read morestaff, or maybe it was the feel that there seemed to be mainly locals here (or a reasonable facsimile). The place was almost packed when we came in, with the only available table being a high and cozy one in the middle. However, one at the front soon opened up, which we grabbed. Folks still kept coming in, and even though they were short staffed, the new customers were sent to the upstairs dining room, and advised to order downstairs. Our Adult beverages consisted of an O'Hara Pale Ale and Red, Chardonnay and water among the 4 of us. 3 really good Tuna Melts were ordered plus a tasty New Yorker (Pastrami with sauerkraut, gherkins, cheese, rocket and mustard), and chips/fries for the table. A little coffee and tea ended the meal, and we were soon on our way. In the USA, a restaurant may ask a general question about food allergies, but in Ireland there are lots of codes designating this and that. Here's Brannigans list: ALLERGENS - 1 Gluten 2. Crustaceans 3. Eggs 4. Nuts 5. Soybeans 6. Milk 7. Celery 8. Mustard 9. Sesame Seeds 10. Mollusca 11. Lupin 12. Sulphur Dioxide 13. Fish 14. Peanuts. As an example, the Tuna Melt was 1, 3, 6, and 13, while the New Yorker was 1,3, and 6.

Food was good. Beer excellent. Prices reasonable. We ate on the second floor where it was quieter and easier to get the barkeeps attention. The live music was on the first floor so if you want to listen to that, stay there. Five stars is we'd go back again even if it were out of our way. No, but it's a solid four stars we'd eat there again with no complaints whatsoever.

We found this place on Airbnb. What a lucky happenstance. I gotta say when we first got there and…read morefound out that we were on what I think is the top floor of a lot of somewhat narrow staircases. I was a bit intimidated due to some physical limitations with my knees and hips. The staff was friendly and they do offer to help you carry up your bags however we did not take them up on it. It ended up being OK, I get it that it's almost impossible to retrofit an elevator into these old buildings. It was quiet, I didn't hear any of the neighbors in the building. I felt very safe in both the apartment and in the area. Everything you need is within a couple blocks of walking distance. The bus that takes you back back-and-forth to the airport is about two blocks away and easy walk. The sidewalks are smooth enough that it's no problem to roll your suitcase. There's a lot of food choices and a big grocery store right on the same block. That brings me to the food. We did not cook in the apartment, but I suspect we could have if we wanted to put together something basic. There's a microwave and a kettle and a very handy refrigerator which we utilized. The attached restaurant feels like family. They treat you like family. The food was great, although that fish and chips put me down for the count. It's just so much food oh my goodness. I love the fact that they had delicious draft beer on tap, they had fantastic desserts, you could see right into the kitchen and see them preparing some food. Everybody on the whole staff was so friendly. I think maybe they are family I'm not sure about that but they certainly treat you like you are family. We got there early to check in and so we went in the restaurant and they put our bags in the corner where it was safe and by the time we were done eating, our room was ready. I saved this one in my book because I will definitely be back.

After finishing the Guinness Storehouse tour, I really wanted to try some traditional fish n' chips…read morefor lunch, as it was my first time in Ireland. I found Beshoff like a total tourist; through an ad on the back of a map of Dublin that I got from my hotel. They were touted as the oldest running traditional fish n' chip shop in the city. Since it was the oldest, and conveniently on the way to the hotel I was staying at, my mom and I took the LUAS and stopped at Abbey Street station and walked through the bustling crowds of fuel protesters towards The Spire to get to Beshoff's. The restaurant had a fun black and white tile finish with an old-school diner vibe. They are a counter-service restaurant, so after browsing the menu, I ordered the traditional cod and chips, and my mom got some calamari and coleslaw. We were luckily able to find a seat at the corner booth closest to the front window of the place, as we arrived right before the lunch crowd started rushing in. My cod order was perfectly fried with a crisp outer breaded layer and light flaky layers of fish on the inside. The portion of fish was huge, and the entire filet was nicely and evenly fried, no soggy sections at all. However, the only issue I had was that a good chunk of the fish didn't have much flavor, it all just had a perfect texture. I had to really douse the fish in the lil' cup of tartar sauce to take it to flavor town. The tail section of the fish was probably the best part for me, as it was a thinner cut of fish, so it was extra crispy and much more succulent. The fries were also kind of a let down for me, they were thick and steak cut styled, so there was a lot of potato in every bite, but they just felt too dry and starchy for my tastes. They reminded me of eating old leftover fries, because they were was missing that distinct crunch and feel that fries have when you eat them fresh out of the frier. The best thing we ordered was the calamari. It was AMAZING, with a delectably crispy outer breaded layer followed by a nice and soft inner squid texture; it had just the right amount of chew and flavor.

Food: Traditional fish and chips - 4/5 - A good experience to get some fish and chips. You will get an abundance of chips to fill your belly. The cod size too I was pretty surprised about. Service: 4/5 - It was close to closing time but they let us sit and eat. Ambiance: 3/5 - Just a step up from a fast food joint. Portion to Price: 5/5 - Very happy with the portion size.
