There's another food truck between Sumpter Pl and Broadway, outside Woodhull Hospital and near Starbucks and Chipotle. The prices are slightly different, with most menu items ranging from $11 to $12, so I assume each operator adjusts for competition. The demographic at my location is primarily African American, but this part of Bushwick tends to be more diverse, with many families, children, and a notable Hispanic presence. For what you're getting, it's really good. My birria tacos were loaded with flavor from the well-seasoned beef, which has a great burst of juicy meat and cheese that makes the soft taco even more tender and chewy. The vegetables and the mozzarella added moisture to the taco, and the birria sauce was savory and plentiful--I had extra and couldn't resist drinking it like soup. You'll definitely need a drink to refresh your palate afterward. The smell of onions and peppers will linger on your hands, face, breath, and clothes. No doubt they are using fresh ingredients, but beware, you will need a peppermint. The truck is parked near the Myrtle Ave. Checkers, Dunkin' Donuts, and Popeyes, making it easy for Brooklynites to spot or for people who know the area to stumble upon. However, because it's on Myrtle Ave., locals know this isn't the most hygienic or scenic spot, even by Brooklyn standards. Myrtle Ave. is Brooklyn's very own 125th St., if that makes sense. The loud noises from traffic, blaring speakers, or a homeless person claiming this block as theirs, unfortunately, take away from the pleasant vibe of a humble taco stand. The operator of the truck was so nice and friendly. I would definitely recommend people try this truck, but honestly, it might be too good for this rough area.

I've ordered the spicy pork, the beef tongue, and the bistec tacos for $3 each and they're reliable and tasty. The tacos are corn tortillas, doubele layered, and have a decent amount of filling. I can't tell you what their schedule is (and my hours are erratic anyway) but they park consistently in front of the Most Precious Blood church lot, across from Rite Aid. Suadero is another not to be found commonly - it is one of the most delectable and succulent tacos which I've ever encountered. Red sauce has a really nice fresh strong heat. Green has a flavour which I cannot immediately discern amongst the glorious peppers... Buche. Who sells that at your local taqueria?! Again- not this side of the border. I had to look it up why lie? The Cebollitas are incredible. Bite into the bulb and suck out the meat - it's more like a leek. Sweet. Earthy. Delicious. Those are just the things which one normally does not see outside of Mexico. Or, at least in most NY Taquerias. All of the regulars are there, waiting, begging.... Go late. There's a definite Mexico City feel- between the cavorting, hookers, and constant noise. My favorites change from visit to visit, but generally I always get Suadero (roast meat), Campechano (roast meat & sausage), Buche (pork stomach), Cabeza (beef head), and Lengua (beef tongue). I also like the extra weird parts like Cesos (beef brain) and Ojos (beef eye). However, the texture is very mushy and definitely not for everyone. As accompaniments, for every two tacos you order, they also give you a long stem onion that is quite tender and delicious. On the down side, instead of the traditional lime and radish that most places give, Tacos El Borrego offers lemon and cucumbers. I'm not sure why, except maybe they are cheaper options than the normal garnishes. Also, don't forget the flavorful green and red sauces on the table if you are eating there. Otherwise, ask for some to go. I miss the days when our group of friends would get a few tacos late at night after a party or night out drinking. The prices are no longer the same, but the food is still perfect for sobering up while having some laughs on the streets during the warm months. I think back to those days fondly whenever I'm at a taco stand nowadays, and Tacos El Botrego is one of my favorites in NYC.
