Chicken Taco, Mexican Sauage Taco, Cactus Taco

We found this place on our way walking to the 1 train to 145th Street. We smelled tacos from outside and we all of a suddenly craved tacos so we gave it a try. We ordered their Chicken Taco, Mexican Sausage Taco, and Cactus Taco. This was our first time seeing Cactus Taco on a menu so we wanted to try it out. We didn't know what kind of Cactus it was because we know there are various different kinds of cactus but it was a nice option for a veggie taco. It had a slightly sour or acidic flavor, similar to green beans or okra. It was tasty overall. Our favorite was the Mexican Sausage Taco, it's always been our favorite and go-to taco. The Chorizo taco was savory and spicy, You never could go wrong with ordering a Chorizo taco. The Chicken Taco has a mild and savory flavor that was also juicy. Overall, what a great restaurant to come across when you are in the neighborhood.

From left to right: lengua, chorizo, buche. Not that you can tell anyway lol

The best quality Mexican food in the area! The cooking here is great, the flavors are amazing and the prices aren't too shabby! I was a little upset to see that for tacos, it's $.50 extra per taco to get lettuce tomato onions and cheese. I thought those things were usually free? Regardless, I added them to my tacos and it really filled the taco. I ordered a lengua, chorizo, and buche taco they were all very tasty but the buche taco was a bit too burnt and crispy. This is not a criticism because that might be how it's always made - this was my first time ever having buche. Every time I've come here, the service is just a bit too long. I only ordered takeout here and expect it to be quick. However, the wait time for your food is just as long as if you were just sitting in. Of note, you have to pay in the adjacent deli. Not with the cook or the waitress if you're ordering to go. In the adjacent deli, you can find drinks and snacks to go with your order. This place has great food and is a lovely neighborhood staple. Stop by if you're craving Mexican food!

I would definitely say this place is a hidden gem since it's located between Broadway and Amsterdam and not on the main streets. I came upon at the recommendation of a fellow yelp eliter who lives in the area. This place is your typical hole in the wall place that serves good food at a good price. Five dollars for a burrito or a chimmichunga. Can't beat that. I will say this though I still would prefer the $7 burritos at the la Viagra taco truck on 145th. But this place is a close second. I have definitely go here if I'm craving Mexican food and my usual trucks are not there.

It can be hard to find good Mexican takeout in Manhattan for a decent price, and my partner is from LA so we really never thought that would happen. We found Chinelos by accident when looking for a quick bodega sandwich before a friend's party and felt like we hit gold. At the time we weren't in the delivery radius and thought we'd never have it again, but then we moved nearby and it was the first meal we had in our new home. Everything we've had here is GREAT.

So I had to update my review because their service simply put is starting to suck. I don't know what new employees they have but they consistently forget my order when I order on their website. They even had a brand newborn crying at the cashier counter. I can't.

I used to come to Chinelos a lot when I was still taking classes at nearby City College about 3 years ago. What I originally liked about Chinelos was the delicious Mexican food and cheap prices. Came back this year and Chinelos did not disappoint. Still loud music or TV playing Univision, still the waiters with some weird ordering system. You order your food then pay at the bodega/mexican store that's connected to the restaurant. If you are here expecting great service then you will be disappointed. I treat it as a fun different experience to enjoy your food with. I had the Gordita de Pollo. This was delicious only $3 bucks and pretty filling. I had the tacos de Chorizo (still my favorite meat here), tacos al pastor, tacos de pollo, tacos de bistec. Also my chorizo tostada was super tasty. Best meats I think are chorizo, bistec, and al pastor. Chicken is light on seasoning compared to other meats, but they give you a lot of it in the taco. Good protein and low fat if you are into that healthy fetish. You can't really go wrong for the price. You will eat a lot of food for $10 or under. Most tacos are $2.50 -$3, burritos $4, tostadas and gorditas $3.

Absolutely delicious 4 tacos $3 each and a huaranche $6

Very delicious and not your gentrified chipotle and dos toros can compare. I got 4 tacos (nopales, oreja pig ear, lengua beef tongue, buche pig stomach) Mexican style ($3 each) and a carnitas huarache ($6). I had two tacos which are very tasty and filling. Saving the rest for later which I'm sure will be very good as well. Hope they are hanging in there during the pandemic.

    Bistec Burrito, absolutamente delicious!!!

Chinelos food is the bomb.com! I am a huge fan of real Mexican food and this place absolutely delivers. The latest Latinx and Reggaeton hits are blasting as you walk in. The 2-4 person seating tables circle the open stove behind a counter. There is a bodega next door for drinks and where you pay for your meal. The ordering system is a little odd. You have to order and pay in two different places. Order at the counter and pay through the archway in the bodega. Everyone is super friendly and pretty much everyone speaks Spanish regulars and staff alike. They're welcoming regardless of your preferred language and even listen to me butcher my order in Spanish haha. We had a minor mix up with our taco order. I somehow ordered us a vegetable taco, oops. They switched it out for us no questions asked. Anyway, super glad we went. Planning to be regulars! Much love y'all. Te Amo!

Ate in 2023: The tacos here were so dry and mid. Even though it came with sauces, I still thought it was lacking in flavor.

We ducked here to grab some nourishment before I became to hangry. Ordering takes place at the counter then grab a table. I had a 1/2 bowl of their "famous chicken soup" and 1/2 pastrami sandwich. Had good flavor and was enough to warm me up on this brisk morning. My niece did a bagel, and after trying all week she finally got one exactly how she wanted it made. We ate and chilled for a bit, no plans for the day other than making it to the airport to go home. Was able to people watch and catch up without feeling rushed to leave. Saw locals come through, so you know it is a place worth stopping. The staff were nice and even apologized for not being able to give me the soup I wanted in a half order. Though things can often get overlooked and passed by in the hustle and bustle of the city...stop in and relax while you grab a bite to eat.

Date of visit: April 14, 2026…read more Our friend wanted to go to a real New York deli during her first trip to the city and this is the one in the vicinity of Times Square and our evening show that was the highest rated according to my fellow Yelpers, but I am not quite sure why based on our experience. Things did start out great, with Boudjema being very friendly and helpful as we placed our order. And once we got seated, we were able to fully appreciate the vibe, both in the primarily 70s playlist, but also the mirror and brass touches across the restaurant. Food-wise, however, there were some definite opportunities. My Roasted Turkey sandwich did come on quite possibly the best rye bread I have ever had, warm and flavorful. But while the gravy was also good, the turkey was cold. This odd temperature mismatch made it hard to appreciate the generous portion of meat on the sandwich. We also ordered some tater tots and those were quite good. While it definitely could have been worse--and I've had worse in New York City--this also could have been so much better.
