I'm really sad to say that the food I ordered tonight was very disappointing. I don't think that I can go back here anymore. I ordered the bone in ribs and they were so over cooked that I could not eat them. I don't know how you can serve something that you know is is over done and expect the customer who is paying a premium (these days) especially for ribs and think that is okay,It's not! This is not the first time I ordered something that has been overcooked. I frequent their crispy duck because the portion is a nice size and the sauce is excellent. However, one time before I ordered the duck and it was so dry and overcooked. I was so disappointed that when I placed an order the time after I specifically asked them not to overcook them. Now, I should not have to say that to the cooks in the back, they should know this. As a Resturant Owner, you should know that if you serve overcooked food your customers aren't going to be happy and then they're not going to return. Chinatown Kitchen has been my go-to Chinese takeout for the past 35+ years in Monticello -- while growing up there and any time I return. While the outside may not look like much, that doesn't paint an accurate picture. Inside you will find the friendliest staff to greet you. The food is always solidly prepared NYC-area Chinese food that is piping hot. Anything you can imagine is on their menu. They also have great combination plates for when you want a full meal experience. My favorites here are the Shrimp with Lobster Sauce, Steamed Dumplings, Pork Fried Rice, and they have fantastic Wonton Soup. Over the years I've probably had most everything. We went on a Sunday 5 pm. It is mainly a take out place but they do have about six tables for you to sit and eat. They had a lot of take out orders as I saw. We ordered: - Shrimp Lo mein can have more shrimps. Portion was good for what I paid $5.95 ( small). Taste was good. - General Tso chicken's sauce was too thick and sweet. $10.59. - Pork Egg Roll $1.89 each was Ok - vegetable and bean curd soup $6.39: lots of vegetables but soup base was bland. - vegetable mei fun $8.49 was tasty. Pro: - Street parking. Free two hours limit parking. Plenty of parking. - Friendly staff - Efficient Conclusion: It's ok if you just want a quick bite. I came here Christmas Day, as it was one of the very few places open. The line formed outside was long, since they remodeled it to only have one customer go inside to order at a time. I ordered lo mein, shrimp & broccoli, chicken & broccoli and two shrimp rolls. The shrimp rolls were good. The shrimp was better than the chicken, but it was decent. The chicken was alright, just not really as firm as I liked and the flavoring was alright. I mean, it got the job done but for the most part I wouldn't have called it "amazing". It was decent. The customer service was great though. Also, if you're picking up, you have to wait again in a long line just to get your order. Average. Came on Christmas day with no other available options during a panny. Ordered plain lo mein, shrimp and broccoli, white rice and chicken and broccoli and two shrimp rolls. The food was cooked well and the price was good. Nothing spectacular but served its purpose as filling Chinese food on Christmas day. Didn't taste greasy or old. There was a line of other poor souls who probably underestimated everything being closed that day, so it felt nice to have some company. Oh, and they let one person in at a time. Bf said the customer service was great, considering they were overwhelmed with orders - we couldn't get thru calling ahead but it was fine as they were open, anyway! Every day, every experience is a taste from something you'd expect in China or NYC. Everythkng I've had has a home made feel. I HIGHLY recommend the szechuan wonton with some broccoli , hot and spicy shrimp, ribs. Everyone I've brought has remarked how they have had nothing like it. Their food is wonderful! Everything is fresh, flavorful & piping hot. Since the pandemic they have a great system that protects the customers as well as the workers. So far I've tried lo-mein, sesame chicken, moo shu pork, egg rolls and I'm sure some others that I'm failing to mention. Out of all, there has been only one disappointment, the egg foo young gravy. It had an overpowering peanut butter taste. I know several places that make it this way and I have no idea why. I can find nothing about an egg foo young gravy with peanut butter. This place has become my absolute favorite and I am totally impressed with the way they are handling CDC guidelines during such a difficult time for small business in the area. I found them based in reviews here on the internet when I just couldn't take the local places around my home anymore. I actually drive from Ulster county (or I should say my husband does) LOL to pick up our meal whenever we order. It is totally with the trip. This is great Chinese American food at its best. I have tried all the Chinese joints in the area, Monticello, Fallsburg, Rock Hill, Ellenville, and this place is the top for me. They make a terrific dumpling. They have a clean respectable storefront (unlike the Chinese place in Ellenville, which really is so run down), they have easy parking (unlike Fallsurg place, where parking can be easy or hard, you never know), they have fair prices. Exceeded my expectations. customer service was delightful. I ordered something I wasn't crazy about not realizing it was breaded and they happily exchanged it for Szechuan chicken which was out of this world. Their fried rice that came with the combination for the shrimp and broccoli was beyond amazing. They give you a heap load of food for a very reasonable price. So much left overs. Everybody knows that leftovers from a Chinese place don't taste that great so hopefully I didn't waste my money when I reheat it tomorrow but I was able to try everything except the eggroll. Family owned and run spot doling out decent quality Americanized Chinese food. Boneless ribs are lean, yummy and not overly saucy. Soups are served temperature hot but a bit bland. Food is fresh and cooked to order. Good for late night sustenance in an area where everything else closes early. read more

I recently hosted a wedding party in Smallwood, NY and needed some good old NY Chinese food to make the event a success. Someone had told me about Chinatown Kitchen and I had known about this place but just hadn't eaten there as I usually went to Soy. Boy have I been missing out. I have to say that when one or two people say the food is good that's a good sign, but when guests go out of their way to ask where I got the Chinese food... that should tell you something. Well that's exactly what happened. I fed 150 guests and everyone was asking me where I ordered the Chinese food from. So yes, I am giving Chinatown kitchen 5 stars. I also want to say that the service from start to finish was impeccable. Ben (Who I believe was the owner) was a pleasure to work with. Their prices were reasonable and everything went as planned. This is the kind of experience you hope for and are grateful when you get it. We had the Gen. TSO chicken, Chicken Lo Mein, Beef & Broccoli, Shrimp Lo Main & Egg Rolls. Food is amazing here and they give massive portions. People are very friendly and knowledgable of what they are selling. I have an MSG allergy, so things can become difficult. This is one of the only places that DOES have MSG in a lot of the food, but they will walk you through the items that don't have it upon request. I have yet to have a problem. Tried to order take out but they wouldn't take my credit card over the phone. Even after I offered to send them a pic of my credit card and license. I was having an Uber pick it up so I want able to pay in person. Even after talking to the manager they declined to make a customer happy and I also offered to pay extra.
