    Lemon chicken all day special.

Followed the yelp reviews off the path a little. They didn't lie! Worth the detour! Won ton soup was really good. I got the lemon chicken. Served quick and HOT. The egg rolls were about the best I've had!

I know you have read the words "This place is an oasis" on Yelp reviews 100 times. But if you follow my Yelp, you know I'm a straight talking, opinionated asshole. So when I say that "this place is an oasis" in a bad food wasteland. You know I mean it. I can 100% guarantee you, if you like East Asian food, and your visiting this friendly little town with a history that dates back to 1880, but if you listen to some of the old timers, it goes back farther than that. Anyways, I'm here about this amazing food! The place is inside a renovated part of the downtown strip, that's been here since the 1800's, it's really nice inside, it's clean spacious, the seating is very comfortable, they have tables that look like could seat 8 at a time, down to the 4 seater size. The food is cooked fresh to order, I've tried the Szechuan pork, it was very very good, but it gets my ONLY CONPLAINT from this place, it had NO peppers in it. I was expecting spices scechuan peppers in my Szechuan pork, don't know if they forgot, or if they just don't put it in. Anyways, it was good, just not Spicy The crab Rangoon are freakin amazing!. I think next time I'm in winters, I will order just a bunch of them for dinner. I also got to try the sweet and sour chicken, it was really good, fresh and exactly what you think sweet and sour chicken should taste like. They give really big portions, so people like my 90+ year old grandparents, can split it and easily make a meal for two. They also do rice the right way, cooked perfect, not underdone, and not over cooked. I've already done a rant on people who don't know how to cook rice, so I will spare you a rice rant for today. (Good rice can make or brake an Asian restaurant, and they make it the right way)Anyways, this is the best place to eat in winters, it's a nice on the inside for family gatherings or if your just traveling on the road and want something besides tacos or microwave pizza from the truck stop. That's my post for today, now I'm hungry, and off to find some food. (Edit/ adding photos I almost forgot)

I had the beef and broccoli off of the lunch menu and it was great. Great lunch portion, reasonable and clean atmosphere. I am not from Ballinger, but if I was I would be there more often.

So I came here for some ramen....tonkatsu ramen in particular…read more The server is friendly and I got to witness the chef hand pulling the noodles. So I order my tonkatsu ramen. I got my bowl and the broth looked a little bit like it was weak and not concentrated enough...I figured maybe it's a little bit weaker flavor. I dip my little ladle spoon and take a sip....that looked like weak tonkatsu, but the flavor was something other than tonkatsu. I don't know what it was. The noodles were cooked appropriately, but the ajitama was not seasoned and it was not soft boiled, it was hard boiled. Okay, try out the meat. The meat was a little bit on the tough side and it did not have the flavor of chashu pork. I have had tonkatsu ramen at many different places through California. Even Missouri has a stellar tonkatsu ramen shop. Unfortunately this place does not leave me satisfied. I am afraid I can not give it a 3 star rating due to the fact that tonkatsu is unrecognizable as tonkatsu in relation to flavor. Was the flavor good? Not really. My recommendation would be to remove tonkatsu as an option on the menu altogether because although it looks like tonkatsu, it does not have anything in it that tastes like a tonkatsu ramen. The 2 stars is for decent noodles and I didn't get sick off the food.

As soon as you walk in you place your food and drink order at the front counter, pay your bill, fill your cup with your choice of fountain drink and seat yourself. The place was clean, the staff were all friendly and the menu has several lunch and dinner options. As far as the dinner goes you can definitely split one meal with two people, it's a lot of food. My husband decided on General Tso's Chicken and I opted for the Sweet & Sour Chicken. He liked his meal and made the comment that there were only 3 or 4 broccoli florets so a little disappointment there but he still liked his choice. I was somewhat disappointed with the our first time experience. Our dinners were brought out to us in styrofoam boxes, plastic wear and no checking on us to see if everything was ok. My Sweet & Sour was anything but Sweet & Sour. Typically this is served with a mixture bell peppers, onions, carrots and pineapple and mine had absolutely none of these and did come with a container of sauce that was still missing something. The fried rice is typically served with peas, carrots or other selections mixed in with it. Mine had a sliver of an onion or two and that was it. Pictures are attached for your review. As you pay when you order the infamous card payment system ask for a tip. Yes a tip before you even try your meal and without anyone actually waiting on you. Will we come back, maybe but we have experienced much, much better Chinese dining in San Angelo.
