The few times I've walked inside, there were no throngs of fried food fans, and plenty of open tables. The menu is loaded with FRIED everything, chicken strips, catfish, French fries, okra, chicken gizzards, etc. The fried catfish are not big, paddle size fillets, but more like strips, or tenderloins. The fried okra, is just as equally good, and the yeast rolls are worth a star too. Definitely worth a stop when I'm visiting. It's not smack yourself Southern style good, but on the border, it's enough to sustain you until you can get back to the land of Dixie.

I was driving by, famished from not having breakfast though it was nearly noon. I was tempted by the waitress, owner, manager Rosie to have the enchiladas. But then she said she had some special beef soup. I asked about caldo de pollo, but she said not that day. So the beef soup I had. Wow. A huge chunk of extremely tender brisket a baseball-size potato, two sections of fresh cabbage, diced carrots, and an extremely aromatic and tasty beef broth, served with three freshly steamed corn tortillas, and a halved tiny lemon, made this the perfect filling meal I was hoping for. It took me a good 45 minutes just to consume it -- eating extremely quickly as I did. I left not a drop. Of course, I can't comment on what I didn't eat. But the soup was perfect, the service as attentive as I'd ever want (I met the son, I got a brief history and verbal tour of the area). If I come back to Eagle Pass to play poker at the great 11-table room in the casino, I'm eating here again. And I recommend it to any poker players who happen on this review. Good food = better play!
