There's not too many chicken places I recommend, even more so when in small town like mine. Rodee's is always busy and that's for a reason - their chicken is pretty damn good - Bush's Chicken good. I remember as a teen, when we were lucky to splurge, my dad would get us Rodee's. I hadn't had Rodee's in YEARS. Let me tell you, I took a bite this year and AY GUEY!!!!! This yardbird still rocks. So I looked on Yelp and saw the recommendations for this place and thought I'd give it a try. HUGE mistake!!! The lake of professionalism and horrible attitude and service was not overcome by the flavor of the chicken. The chicken was good but I will NEVER go back. I asked for spicy chicken and in a rude response "don't have any", not can you wait for a few minutes to cook, just don't have any. For about $7.50 I got one of the tenders specials - 5 freshly made to order spicy chicken tenders, a side of delicious gravy, small coleslaw, a roll, 2 jalapeños and gizzard hot sauce. The big thing in this area is getting whole jalapeños that have been soaking and breaking them open to release the marinated juices on your food. The tenders were fresh and hot. Almost too hot to eat right away which personally I loved. Crispy, tender, and steaming. According to Google Maps it was less busy than usual so I got my food in under 5 minutes from ordering. Seating is mostly booths and a few tables. They don't clean them often, but I do feel like it adds to the authenticity of a hole in the wall. But...this is also the reason I'll give it one less star. Once known for their delicious chicken tenders and lemon pepper gizzards, all I can think of now is the void in their potential. This place was once a small, neighborhood mom and pop friend chicken establishment with a small experienced staff that was dedicated to pleasing their customers. Now, Rodee's is a memory of its former self. If you are lucky to encounter one of their veteran staff members, you might have the best tenders and gizzards of your life, but most likely Rodee's younger generation will be there, ruining your order. It is now typical of Rodee's delivering undercooked tenders, over fried gizzards, and incomplete orders. One would expect golden, crisp fried tenders, but they are now bland and the barter is raw. The gizzards are a hit or miss - sometimes obviously cooked in old, burnt oil. If you are looking for gold, crispy fried chicken that is consistent in quality and service, your best bet is Church's here in Eagle Pass. They have slowly but surely won me over. I'm afraid to say that just like most folks, this place is a must-stop for me! Sure, it has it's hits and misses throughout all my visits, but for the most part it is consistently good. It's not so much an issue on the quality of food as to the costumers service. They are charging for simple stuff such as seasoning and sauce it's no trouble but the way they give you the services is very condensing and down right the model of an annoying restaurant that wants to squeeze every last dime they can from you. They also open at 10AM and at 11AM no food was ready to serve if you don't wanna to pay workers to prepare food before hand don't open at 10 and not have absolutely nothing ready. I was in EP to shop and a relative recommended this place. I had 2 pieces of chicken which was very good. The mashed potatoes and gravy (brown) was not hot. I got a roll that was very dry and got drier as the meal progressed. My sister loves their gizzards. I don't like gizzards. She got their coleslaw and liked it but it did not look very appetizing, no hint of green, just white. This place looked like a football team had just eaten there as there was trash on the floor. Girl that took our order was nice and attentive. The menus both handwritten signs on the wall and on a marquee over the register were hard to read as they looked too old. I'm not sure I liked seeing into their kitchen area as it looked dirty. Food on the floor, the guy breading the chicken tossing flour all over the place.
