    Chicken and Shrimp Hibatchi
    Lorene M.

I was starving after a grueling workout. Needed something filling and healthy, so I decided to try China Taste. This restaurant is located in a Plaza on Johns Island off of Maybank Rd. There is carry out and dine in available. It appears to be mostly a carryout business as there was no one eating in the dining area, and no hostess or hostess stand in view. I called in my order of Chicken and Shrimp Hibatchi. They offer all of the typical Chinese food fare as well as soft drinks. No bar is available at this location. There is plexiglass totally shielding the counter where you order and pick up food. It doesn't really give a warm welcoming vibe and makes it a little awkward to communicate and pay as you pass your credit card through a tiny hole in the plexiglass. The food is in a multi- compartment Styrofoam container. You get a large portion, but the food tends to get sloshed around and leaks in the bag before I got it home. I've seen other places pack the meat and veggies separate from the rice and I like that better. Less messy. The food was good. They were generous with the shrimp and chicken, and it was tender. The veggies were cooked perfectly and not mushy. They only offer white rice. I would have preferred brown, but it was tasty. Overall, it's not a bad experience for a quick grab and go meal. This is not a place to sit down and have that warm ambiance and dining experience. Price is average compared to similar restaurants. There is plenty of parking in the strip plaza.

China Taste is great for take out! I typically order the Sweet and Sour chicken combination plate with vegetable fried rice and an egg roll along with chicken fried rice - light on the oil. The food is always ready quickly and hot. The owner recognizes me and knows my order by heart when I call. Quick and convenient!

China Taste on Johns Island has quickly become one of my local favorites for authentic and delicious Chinese cuisine. When we stepped inside, we were greeted and our order was taken right away. Not a very big place, only one or two tables. Most all of their business is takeout. Their menu has a wide variety of classic Chinese dishes. The General Tso's Chicken is a favorite, with crispy, tender pieces of chicken coated in a sweet and spicy sauce. For something little lighter, the Vegetable Lo Mein is a low calorie option, packed with fresh vegetables and savory sauce. This time around we tried the chicken and shrimp hibachi and it was absolutely delicious. Large portions shrimp, chicken, vegetables and rice. This dish also comes with yum yum sauce, which is a wonderful dipping sauce. Whether you're craving a quick TAKEOUT lunch or dinner, China Taste is sure to satisfy your cravings. It's a hidden gem on Johns Island that is a must-try.

Mapo Tofu and S6. General Tsos Chicken

We just moved to the island and we have been getting a lot of takeout during the move. I saw in reviews that they were takeout only, so we ordered on Doordash. I was craving mapo tofu, so I was excited to see it on the menu. General Tso's was rated number one on Doordash, so my fiancé ordered that. The food came quickly and had a good amount of sauces and fortune cookies to go with it. The portion size on my mapo tofu was huge, I think I'll get 3 meals out of it! My fiancés General tso's had a good amount of spice and was accompanied by fried rice that he thought was ok. The mapo tofu had a nice tingly spice to it and a good amount of veggies in there. Overall, we were both very satisfied with our meals. Definitely a great spot when you're craving some Chinese takeout.

Chicken wings and pork fried rice.

We ordered take out, ready in 20 minutes. I had the chicken wings (4 of them) with pork fried rice. I have had a lot of fried rice in my life, but this was like boiled white rice with a sort of greasy taste is the best description that I could give it. The pork was small dark cubes of ham-like pieces with a few (very few) onion pieces softly cooked. The chicken had dark bones, which I surmise was previously frozen, which in these times was not unusual. Before I had the General Tso's chicken which was much better, a 4 star for certain, but this was not a meal worthy.

Very good Chinese food at a reasonable price. Combination platters offer ample food with rice and an egg roll.

I ordered a General Taos chicken. It's got a great flavor, the chicken is crispy and the right amount of hot spices. I love it!

Not a lot to compare to in the South but the chicken was under-seasoned and there could have been more of it.

We did come in on a busy Saturday night at prime dinner time so we had to wait about 40 mins, but I knew there would be a wait so that's fine. Also, once you sit down, you don't wait for anything. Every time we ordered, the food came out in a few minutes or less. For our first round, we started with the a pot of jasmine tea, cucumber salad and the crab rangoon. The cucumber salad seems like such a simple dish, but the mix of flavor they add makes it a refreshing bite between each course... this is a must have. The crag rangoon was some of the best we've ever had and we loved it so much that we ordered a second plate. There are only three per plate so order accordingly. The tea was great but let it steep longer than you think you need to for maximum flavor. Next we did a round fo dumplings. Obviously we had the pork soup dumplings which were fantastic. I wanted to get more, but we had also ordered the sichuan chili wonton and the pan seared pork dumpling. While I enjoyed both of these, I would probably try some of the others on the menu next time. We finished with two entrees. One was the udon noodles with chicken and the other was the beef and broccoli. I love udon noodles for their bouncy texture and this portion was plentiful. The beef and broccoli was so tender and delicious. This would also be a must order item and make sure to get a side of white rice to go with it. While the robot didn't come anywhere near our table, the human servers were all amazing and made sure we had everything we need at a moments notice. They really run a tight ship here and can turn tables while providing excellent service all at once. I can't wait to come back and try more of the menu.

We sat at the sushi bar, which I highly recommend, and from the moment we sat down it was clear we were in good hands. We were surprised right away with a complimentary amuse‑bouche--crab stick rolled with salmon--which was a thoughtful and delicious touch. To start, I ordered the seaweed salad while Justin went with the ginger salad; both were fresh, balanced, and a perfect lead‑in to the sushi. For the main event, I ordered a spicy tuna roll and eel nigiri, and this is where Zen really shined. The spicy tuna roll was exactly what sushi lovers hope for--very light on rice and heavy on fish, something that's surprisingly hard to find around Charleston. The eel nigiri was rich, perfectly cooked, and full of flavor. Justin ordered several pieces of sashimi and was equally impressed. We asked about albacore tuna (unfortunately unavailable), but were told the salmon was excellent--and moments later, we were unexpectedly served two additional pieces of sushi each. Completely unexpected and incredibly appreciated, especially for a birthday celebration. Between the quality of the fish, attention to detail, and warm hospitality, Zen Asian Fusion absolutely won us over. We've officially found our new sushi spot and can't wait to come back.
