Chicken fried rice. The chicken was GRAY.
Kassie J.

We got food delivered from China Star. Not good at all. I got chicken fried rice. Hard to screw up, but the chicken was gray, rubbery and inedible. Will not order again.

Nope. Never again. Ordered from here when our other go to Asian takeouts were closed. Poor cuts of meat, saucy, gelatinous and bulked up with cheap fillers. Mongolian beef? Try Mongolian onions. If you are craving Asian food and this is your only option, order a pizza instead.

Hot and sour soup. 5 bucks. Score.

Small. Family-owned. At lunch you'll be greeted by Angela (4 years old and still learning English). The food is not gourmet, but it's good, honest Chinese food. Lunch specials are a bargain, and the giant bowls of soup are five bucks. I wouldn't eat the fried appetizers too much, but I think they're pretty bad at any Chinese restaurants.

Orange chicken

Food was not good. Orange chicken was not crispy at all, just soggy with lots of sauce. The sauce didn't taste like orange at all, super bland and flavorless. Ate a few pieces but definitely didn't keep the leftovers. Also got crab rangoon- it was better but just ok.

I'm addicted to their Lo Mein! Ask for skinny noodles and whatever veggies you want and they'll do it! Drool worthy food here.

Very solid place for fresh Chinese. They used to do a buffet but those days are gone. The dining…read moreroom is clean but not used often. I ordered bean curd with veggies. Everything from the veggies to the tofu was fresh and crisp with a hint of bite and a faint touch of sweet. Definitely will order from here again

My husband wanted Chinese food and we always spend too much time looking online for a place to go,…read moreas we haven't been to any Chinese restaurant, in our area, that we can rave about. We ended up ordering take out from the China Inn, after a nine-year absence. This establishment has not been my favorite place to order Chinese food, in years past, but I obliged my husband's request, as I didn't want it taking an hour to decide where to eat. I ordered my usual, chicken with snow peas, which also included bamboo shoots, carrots and celery. It comes with a darker sauce now, when years ago it came with a white sauce. I told my husband to ask if they could substitute the dark sauce, for white sauce, and to my surprise they honored my request. My husband ordered the Four seasons with shrimp, chicken, beef, roasted pork and broccoli. He ordered it extra spicy. The meal came with white rice. We also ordered pork eggs rolls, cream cheese rangoons and pork fried rice. I was pleasantly pleased with my dish, although the celery could have been stir-fried a bit longer, as it was very crunchy. The chicken was tender and moist and the peas, carrots and bamboo shoots were stir fried perfectly. My husband wasn't super thrilled with his dish as he ordered it extra spicy, but he stated it was bland, and it was lacking in shrimp. Now, knowing when my husband states food is not spicy, and I taste it, my mouth is burning, so who knows if it was spicy or not. I wasn't going to take a chance tasting his meal. The eggs rolls and crab rangoons were crispy and not greasy. The pork fried rice was also very good and much better tasting than years ago. I can't comment on the interior, as I didn't pick up the take out. I was very happy there was no issue with substituting the sauce that I wanted in my dish. I believe China Inn has changed owners a few times, and the food has improved quite a bit since 2016.

The broth was…read moredelicious, but it felt like it was missing something...I also wish that the dish came with more veggies / meat. It felt like most of the dish was just the noodles, and it was not balanced (ended up not finishing the noodles). Service is very straightforward. You order up front, and they deliver the food to you. After that, you put away your dishes/trash. Very standard noodle shop. Nothing too crazy. We came in at a pretty empty time (near 8pm), so service was not packed. It is a standard restaurant with standard seating options. Standard vibes only.

I appreciated that they had a clear window so you could see them making the handpulled noodles and the prices were fair, especially for state street. We got the braised beef noodle which was wonderful. Rich broth, very tender meat, which could have had thicker pieces, but I was pretty impressed with the flavor of the soup. It might have been that it was a particularly cold day and it just hit, but it worked. The pan fried dumplings were okay. The dough was a little thick and there wasn't any soup in them. Overall, I don't think there is another hand pulled noodle place in Madison, at this price and area, so I would say I'm a fan and it's worth trying.
