China Star is close to the university I attend so whenever I don't have lunch or was too lazy to pack lunch from home, I head there during my lunch time to grab something to eat. Usually I will call and put my order in and in 10 minutes, my food would be ready. I go there with friends most of the times, 3 of us. All our foods will be ready within 10 minutes. Everyone that knows me knows that when it comes to Chinese food, I stick to my lomein and I refused to change it up lol, that's how much I love lomein, especially when it is spicy. When I moved to this area for school, I didn't think I would find a Chinese place with good lomein but I did. My friends have tried other things on their menu and they love it! One thing I wish they had was a bigger seating area that my friends and I can sit and eat our food before returning to class but I do understand it is more of a take out restaurant. Overall I would recommend this place. The staff there are polite as well. read more

Me, my mom and my stepdad wanted some chinese food so we wanted to try this place out my mom and i got orange chicken with fried rice and it turned out their fried rice is yellow rice? wtf u have to pay for toppings with ur rice that's supposed to come with a lil toppings and not to mention, 3 people for 37 dollars, don't u think that's a little overpriced? you also have to pay more for lo Mein And she didn't even give us lo mein so they gave us 3 friend rice (actually yellow rice). Finally,, u have to pay more to switch from originally white rice to fried rice so yea. I also didn't mention, that the wait time is quite long. read more

My girlfriend lives nearby and I've gotten takeout from here about 3 times now. The first two times I got sesame chicken and the most recent I've gotten chicken lo mein. Maybe I don't have as big of an appetite as I used to but the past two times I've gotten more than one meal off my food!! Sesame chicken is my favorite Chinese food and this place has the best sesame chicken!! The sauce is wonderful, tasty, sweet even. There's a place back home in Charlottesville that had similar tasting sesame chicken sauce when I had them on Christmas Eve last year but not since. However, China Star has been consistent! Just be careful when reheating the leftovers because my chicken tasted dry (only when reheated from the fridge not when it was fresh). The chicken lo mein was great too! I ordered Chinese vegetable and sauce with white rice and got white sauce with Chinese celery only. what a rip off with no explanation.

My husband and I ordered dinner for pick up. When we arrived, our order wasn't ready, so my husband paid for our meal and we ran a quick errand before returning. Once we returned, I gave them the phone number the order was made under. The girl behind the counter stated she didn't have an order under that number; she never checked any existing orders that were sitting behind the counter. I quickly went out to verify the number with my husband who went back into the restaurant and explained that he never received his food(please note, this was the same girl he spoke to initially with regards to our order not more than ten minutes prior). The girl had a bit of an attitude, thinking we already picked up our meal. Finally, she took it upon herself to check the to-go orders sitting behind her and located our meal. I understand people make mistakes, however the girl running the counter didn't even take the time to try and locate our meal until my husband continued to press the issue. One of your better Chinese takeout restaurant in the burg, the general Tso chicken could be hotter, but remains one of there best sellers, food is above pare,great prices, quick service , very limited inside dining. This is one of the better chinese takeout options in Hburg. They've got lots of options. I typically get chicken and broccoli. I wasn't extremely impressed this past time I got it. It seemed to be a little old in my opinion. The dumplings are a little thick for my personal preference, but not bad in flavor. read more

I usually get Chinese from the Great Wok but since they are closed on sundays I thought I'd try China Star. It was so disappointing. The food was terrible. I'm vegetarian so I ordered veggie lo mein. It had chicken, I wouldn't have cared because I can just pick it out but It was also bad because the vegetables it had was LETTUCE, not cabbage but the type of lettuce you put on subs, and a lot of it! And it had big pieces of green onion, no broccoli, nothing good. Never getting it again. read more

I love Asian food and I get excited to try new restaurants. This food was not good. I'm shocked by the reviews. No flavor at all, one of the worst in harrisonburg, no love or finesse, just taste like it was all mixed together, no differing flavor profiles, for reference I got triple hunan delight... the 2 shrimp were fried first then was soggy from being in the sauce,.yuck, it was hard to eat, didn't finish it. I drive from east Harrisonburg to eat Chinese food here. Usually I have the lower fat selection listed on the wall to the right. It is a bit salty but very good, and you can get it by the pint as well as the quart. You can have it with the meat (or I imagine meatless) of your choice - chicken, beef, pork or shrimp. Service is fast. I eat part of it there (because I live on the other side of town) and take the rest home. read more
