Was craving Vietnamese soup on a hot day and stopped here driving through Virginia. Service was quick and friendly, restaurant was clean and had good AC so you're not covered in sweat while slurping your oodles. Amazing pork rolls and chicken wings. BF had the Pho and enjoyed it, I tried the broth and it was delicious, not too strong on the star anise which I liked. I had the Bun Bo Hue, this was bland and not spicy... had to add more sate ( chili sauce) and the broth was warm, not hot which was disappointing, it was just okay and honestly will not order it again. I know I should've have the Pho instead for a more satisfying meal. It's still 4 stars because the Pho was authentic.

Ok. I go to Harrisonburg once a week. Every time I go I stop here. Im slowly working my way through their entire menu. Why? Because I like to try new things. Every. Single. Dish. Has been amazing. I didnt really expect much when I first went. Its in a shopping center and in a line of several restaurants. Nothing about its decor or exterior really stuck out. When you walk in they let you seat yourself. I like that because I just get uncomfortable sitting in certain places. Im just weird like that. My social anxiety rearing it's lovely head! Their menu is pretty straight forward and simple. Not too many items where youre overwhelmed, but enough to cover a variety of tastes. I cant even begin to spell or remember the names of everything I've tried, so im just going to gice you the highlights and explain why I think this place is THE BEST. Vietnamese Lemongrass chicken. Im notnsure the exact name for it but its got thin vermicelli rice noodles, some delicious grilled chicken, shredded lettuce and cucumbers. It has this dressing (its basically like... a dipping sauce but its vinegar based and I think this dish is technically called a noodle salad, im not 100% sure) thats tangy, sweet, salty and delicious. The chicken is always tangy, the noodles are springy and jot overcooked. The lettuce is super thin shredded, the cucumbers are the perfect cut... it comes in this huge bowl so you can mix it easily. This one is my FAVORITE. I have had it at 4 other places and NONE of them make it the same as this place. The chicken is always not grilled well, and dry, or the noodles are overcooked, or the vegetables are clunky and just... not all that smooth. Then theres the price. This is the cheapest place ove found to get this dish by MINIMUM $5 and thats after a recent price hike. My own home town sells this dish at their noodles house for $25 and their noodles are cooked ahead and laid in planks where they gum up and clump up and look like sad little plants instead of noodles. It makes me cry. Anyways... Thien An Pho does it best, and cheapest and when you can get those two things combined? Yeah. They've got my heart. My next favorite thing is the BBQ pork spring rolls. The first time I went there i asked for a recommendation of what they liked of the appetizers. This was what the woman recommended. Its BBQ pork (kind of like the BBQ spare ribs at a Chinese place in flavor... little sweet, red in color, etc) with vermicelli noodles and other veggies wrapped in a rice paper wrap. I think some places call it a summer rolls, where the wrap is chewy, and everything is raw. Its delicious. They also sell a chicken and shrimp version, but by far the BBQ pork one is my favorite. Comes 2 to an order and theyre pretty big. They come with a peanut dipping sauce. Smokey Beef. This is served on a cast iron plate, still sizzling. Its freaking delicious. A little sweet, but not a wet wet sauce. Comes with rice and its a little spicy but jot too bad at all. I didnt get a picture but its got sliced beef, onions and green onions. The beef was tender and my mouth is watering thinking about it. I might order it this week again! I haven't found anyplace that makes a dish thats similar. Well, they do but the taste is not at all similar. This place hands down knows what tastes good. String Beans with garlic sauce over rice. This is once again delicious. The string beans are tender but not mushy at all. Theres onions and red bell peppers stir fried with them. Its served with rice and its so filling. Mmm. Its a great vegetarian option, but not at ALL the ONLY one they have! I've tried their pho thst had a combination of pork and brisket and that was SO flavorful. I did add a bit of sriracha because I wanted some spice, but the flavor was very bold on its own. I couldn't even finish the whole bowl, much to my dismay. Its a very large portion! There's another noodle soup i tried... its spicy abd Lemongrass based but I dont know the name of it. It had, I think... pork, beef, and fish cake maybe? So spicy my nose was running but not so spicy that I didnt want to eat it. I got this 2 times in a row. I do not regret it. It was delicious both times and rates among my top 3 favorites from them. Price wise this place is THE cheapest place for this type of food with consistently high quality. I've been to several other noodle houses trying to find similar dishes and even if I found the dishes, the prices and quality of food didnt even begin to compare. The staff is attentive without being overbearing, which I love, and honestly I dont have anything bad to say at all about the place. Please just go if youre in the area. This place is amazing. The only thing I may possibly regret about this review is that maybe more people may go and then it might get crowded lol But if it does, they deserve it. Seriously.

Always so consistently good! Definitely one of my favorite Harrisonburg lunch spots. Especially in an area where it's hard to find many authentic Vietnamese places or noodle places in general :) also the best local spot for veggie spring rolls, they were too good I ate them before I remembered to snap a pic.

Best Vietnamese Restaurant in Virginia. Highly recommended. The pho and the pork bbq springs rolls are so authentic.

The decor of the restaurant is minimal, but nice, and the seating in the restaurant is well set. The service at the restaurant was really good, the owner greeted us when we came in, and our waiter immediately came over with our water. I ordered the Grilled Pork with Rice, and I loved how charred and well grilled the pork was. They give a great portion of fish sauce, which is rare, and the rice was good and easily eaten with chopsticks. We also ordered a pork banh mi, and that was definitely the best banh mi I've ever had. The bread was really good, crusty and well toasted, and there was a good sauce, meat, and vegetable ratio. After we'd finished our meal the owner came over to our table, and he was really kind and conversational. Overall, a great restaurant that I would definitely recommend!

Soup flavor was a little light but portion was right. Egg rolls were delicious. Service was good. We love the TV on the wall showing Asian food channels :)

Not bad for a great meal!

It was my first time trying this place so I ordered the Phở Đặc Biệt to test the spot. The broth here is fragrant and delicious, and I would absolutely get the egg rolls again. In terms of size, the Phở is big enough to share, but it's so good you're not going to want to. The person that took my order was also pretty cool and hooked up some kind of a weekday discount, which I wasn't expecting. Looking forward to coming back soon.

What a surprising find! Driving down to Western North Carolina and had to pull off. Can't make the trip in one shot since the Yukon needs gas, and I have a bladder. Stopped here, a little past the halfway point. In a town of chains, this cafeteria noodle shop is just what we needed. In the heart of James Madison University territory in Harrisonburg PA. Everything was great. We could have ordered with our eyes closed. Deff worth stopping in, all the flavor profiles are there - allspice, lemon grass, curry, the salt & pepper fry on the tofu is out of this world. Servings are tremendous. Served on very large plates which easily take up the entire table. And got my iced coffee here too, very delicious. Tons of takeout. Very casual. People walking the length of the restaurant to the back table and register to pick up their orders. Back to I-81, I'll be back.

    Brisket Pho and chicken wings

We came for brisket pho and were not dissapointed! The broth was very flavorful and had such a delicious depth of richness. The owner was very friendly and came out to make sure everything was to our liking. We shared that pho was my daughters birthday dinner request. Later he came out with an order of chicken wings stating that he didn't have cake but made her birthday wings. My daughter LOVES bone-in wings, more than cake actually so that was so kind. We also ordered and appetizer of the Bbq Pork Rolls (summer roll), which we thought was a unique creation and they were excellent! My husband ordered the Combination Stir-Fried Egg Noodle dish which had a good helping of protein and he really enjoyed it. We were impressed with the freshness and portion size of the servings. Oh! The chilli crisp on the table is house-made and totally hits on all levels. Our waiter was attentive and gave us great service. Give Thien- An Pho a shot to earn your business. We're sure glad we did!

Traveling from out of town for hikes. So glad we gave this spot a try. If you're looking for authentic Vietnamese, this is it. This literally reminds me of my own moms cooking when I visit. Haven't been home for a home cooked meal from my mom since Covid started. And in my area there's NO decent Vietnamese food. I never would've thought this would be where I found it!! We OVER ORDERED for two people but who cares. We knew from the moment we walked in. "It smells like my moms house!" Egg rolls; Pho Combination; Pho Chicken; and Clay pot rice ALL OF IT WAS AMAZING. Did the taste test before I added an hoisin or Sriracha and it was fantastic. We will be coming here for all our hiking and snowboarding trips from now on. Best hands down. This is how it's done

I guess I should've known better, but the make your own drink was mediocre because the guava option was based off a not-so-yummy juice. So next I ordered a drink off their menu and it was just alright. Honestly, I'd just skip out on drinks next time, but it was New Year's Eve so.. I did try to ask our server for drink reccs but she was 20.. So, we really enjoyed our ramens. Even the veggie ramen that I ordered, with a clear broth, was quite tasty - I've had clear broth options that were less flavorful. We also ordered a few additional appetizers. We shared some bao buns which were excellent, my partner ordered some meat skewers and I ordered a salmon nori taco. All in all, a great little shop. We considered coming back later on our trip but decided to explore elsewhere.

I came with a particular need to get something that was both flavorful but not overly traumatizing for an ailing stomach. A miso ramen fit the bill nicely. While Japanese, the menu is vegetarian-friendly and offers ample customization. My ramen was tasty, but I did feel a bit shorted by getting only one marinated tofu sheet to finish off at the end. I needed some sushi to feel full, and fortunately, their inari with a seaweed salad filling were delicious, arguably more so than the ramen. A tea from their boba menu delivered some nice chia seeds and strong flavor, albeit with an aftertaste. I wouldn't say that my bar for ramen was reset, but as a regular driver along I-81, I felt good about having made this stop and wouldn't mind repeating it.
