I can't believe China Star has as many 1 star reviews as it has. This place has been a staple of Kingsport for years. I went a three or four month period where I ordered take out from them about once a week.. for 10 to 15 orders straight the food was always hot, and they were pretty accurate. I remember they got something wrong maybe once or twice and they gave me something free on my next order to make up for it. They even remembered me and immediately honored their word when I ordered again a couple weeks later. And their food is so good! It's actually the best most consistent Chinese food in Kingsport in my experience. Also, if anyone says they come off rude - they are Chinese! Cut them some slack and quit being so sensitive. They have a language barrier they have to deal with, and their culture is different than ours. They are good people there and they make great food. read more

The food was nasty and cold. First I tried the Mei Fei, noodles, chicken brocolli, small egg roll that was luke warm. Terrible is not even going to cut how this was nasty. This was our first time as we do not live in the area but thought we would try this place as we were craving some good Chinese food. We were both. On my second trip up I tried just the beef and broccoli this was at least warm but nasty tasting like flour. The food was descent but keep reading. We ordered on the website and when I arrived to pick it up, about half the order wasn't there. They said they were out of those items. If the items weren't available, why did it let me order them? I was ordering for several people and had to change plans at the last minute which isn't easy when your not from the area and don't know your way around. Just went to China star in kingsport tn. The food was not edible. It was dry and cold. After giving up on finding something fit to eat we were given our $52 bill. I asked to speak with the manager to see if they could adjust our bill somehow as we are still gonna have to go elsewhere to eat. The manager took forever to come speak with me and was very rude and unwilling to compensate for my upset stomach. When I got my phone out to do this review(myself being a very petite female) this Male manager came around the counter and blocked the exit so I couldnt leave. I am a restaurant manager and if the issue was taste alone thatd be different but this was not safe serve. Tried this place before a doctors appointment. Read the reviews before going in and most people said it had "improved". It was ok, food was decent, restaurant was "decently" clean although somewhat questionable. After stomaching all I could from the selection, I went to use the restroom where I found a horribly large cockroach on the floor. After my kids doctors appointment we I stopped here for lunch to day. We each got a to go container Filled it up with our choices from buffee. Once in the car I grabbed a quick few bites out of mind to go Box then headed towards their school, They ate theirs in the back and I would grab a quick bite at each red light, I'm sure if you have children you can relate. After finishing 75% of my meal I notice something black on one of the pieces of chicken. I was really hoping it was just some spice but nope it was a Crispy be little bug. I was so disgusted it took everything I had not to throw up all over. I pray there was not any in my children's food. I would recommend staying far far away from this restaurant it was very busy in the restaurant so I can only imagine the amount of bugs that were eaten. read more

This is the most disappointing Chinese buffet I have ever been to. The staff and owners are rude and hateful, the place is dirty, food is left out way too long. The noodles both rice and lo mein had been out so long they were burned, the egg drop soup had cooked down so far it was green and tasted like salted dish soap, the sushi bar was never even there and I was charged for crab legs even though they didn't put any out until I was leaving. The staff was more woried about closing than attending to any of the custumers let alone myself. I left just before they closed anb that is when they started restocking the buffet lines and couldnt help wondering if they were doing it for the next day. Overall absolutely disgusting read more

I never go to the buffet here because I know that it isn't good but if you're looking for good chinese takeout then I recommend 100%. I tried this place today, and the food was mediocre, the service was poor, and the attitude of the staff was even worse. I'd rate it zero stars if possible, because China (One) Star is not even worthy of the ONE star appearing on the sign outside their restaurant. I had to repeatedly flag down the waitress to get refills on my drink, otherwise she didn't seem to care about customers or pay attention to them. I ate there with two others in my party, and when I asked for separate checks, she turned over the check and wrote "13.90" and rudely said, that's what you each pay. She couldn't be bothered to write out new checks for each of the three of us. I went to the register and explained how poor the food and service is, and I got some response about all the food and no other customer has complained, which made little sense, and no offer was made to reduce the absurdly expensive price of the meal at this place. One member of my party told her, "we are never coming here again." At the price of 13.90 the food should be better, and the service and attitude of the staff needs to be orders of magnitude better. They show that they just simply don't care about their customers. Don't eat at China (None) Star unless you enjoy institutional-tasting mediocre food and staff that treats you like dirt. read more

Good value for money. Four nice clean buffet tables; eat-in and restroom areas are also cleaned--obsessively, as they should be in a busy restaurant. I've peeked, and all that chicken may be Tysons instead of Perdue, but it IS chicken. Nice quiet waiters do speak English, but don't interrupt your meal. Most buffet items are gluten-and-dairy-free. If I could give no stars, or even negative stars, I would. China Star used to be the best place for Chinese food in Kingsport. The food was always good and fresh (and affordable!!!), and the service was great. Fast forward to today, where my family of 3 (2 adults and 1 child) just paid $43 for lukewarm food and crappy service. The waitresses now barely say 2 words to you and are too busy playing on their cell phones to provide more than just the bare minimum of customer service. We arrived right around lunch time and were surprised that the food looked and tasted as if it had already been sitting on the buffet for hours. Most of it was dried out and cold. By the time we made the 25 minute drive from the restaurant to our home, all three of us were talking about how terrible we felt. Sick, bloated, indigestion, etc... Now we are just hoping and praying that we did not pay over $40 for a plate of food poisoning. It seems as if every time we go there, the quality of food and service is less, while the price is more.
