Ordered the general tso chicken an dumplings and got 3 solid meals out of it! I appreciate that the rice comes with the meal and loved the dumpling sauce as well. I ordered pickup so can't comment on the service but it was ready as soon as we arrived. Would order again! read more

They use Beyond Menu for delivery. They charged $7.00 for delivery and $1.00 for convenience fee. I live less than 3 miles away from the restaurant. I have ordered food from this place for 32 years. Under new management this is not what I expected. The portions are smaller. Who cares about online ordering! Sorry China Star, You will not be getting my business any more! read more

We've been going to "OG China Star" since 1999. We always bragged to others about what a gem this place was. Tonight, we ordered, and the food was terrible. I won't get into the details about Crab (not) Rangoon. or the Chicken fingers that taste like corn dogs. It's sad to see a what was a high-quality restaurant crater like this - obviously opting for cheap suppliers and salty prepared dishes. I hope the "new management" has the phone number of the "old management" so they can call them for help. Otherwise, this place will be re-branded within a year to the new-new-China Star. I'll wait for the flyer in my mailbox before I bother going back at these prices. read more

Under new ownership, the rice was awesome. The spare ribs were awesome. The chicken fingers were just OK.

Under new ownership. We tried eating there 3x after the change but we no longer go there. Just not the same.

We've enjoyed ordering from this restaurant for years, even after moving away from Amesbury. Ordered online last week. Should have been tipped off by the disclaimer pictured below. We drove 25 minutes, gave our name on the order and confirmed what we ordered. Waited for them to complete it. Drove 25 minutes home to find a completely different order. AND they charged us for the more expensive order. We called and said we weren't driving back and forth again. After lots of back and forth, the best they could do was say, "my bad," and offer 10% off our next order. No thanks. read more

China Star is under new ownership the food is great and the people who run it are super nice. Best Chinese food around.

Do not order Ordered before and roommate and I got very sick and had to go to the Urgent Care and diagnosed with Food Poisoning and demanded refund but got yelled at saying they only use fresh ingredients Don't buy from them ever read more

Wow!! Are they under new management? Just got take out and it was the best Chinese food we've had in a long time.

China Star is a casual Chinese takeout place in Downtown Amesbury, which is order at the counter with open kitchen and hard booth seating for eating in. The menu offerings are the standard Chinese dishes including Szechuan, moo shi, and curry dishes. Most dishes under $11. Luncheon Specials, White Rice Specials and Special Combinations ($5.25-$9.25) are served any time (except Dec 24 & 31). See the menu at http://www.chinastaramesbury.com/ They also have a strict sauce policy with specific sauces included only with specific items. This policy is posted on the wall and in the menu. For example, duck sauce or apple sauce served with most appetizers and appetizers with combos, hoisin sauce with moo shi dishes only, mustard sauce with appetizers only, ginger sauce with Peking raviolis & scallion pancakes only, and soy sauce with fried rice, chow mein, chop suey, lo mein, egg foo yong, soup, and stir fry dishes. Sauce side orders are priced accordingly. The sauce policy is fair here and not as stringent as Hong Kong Express in Portsmouth, NH where they charge for all sauces. Anyways, I stopped in here and ordered the L11a: Egg Roll, 4 Crab Rangoons & Pork Lo Mein ($7.50 plus tax), which was ready in about 10 minutes. The egg roll was nice and crispy outside, filled with cabbage & pork. The crab rangoons had a nice crunch filled with cream cheese filling. The pork lo mein had a mix of firm noodles tossed with green peppers, carrots, water chestnuts, sliced mushrooms, sprouts, onions, and tender roast pork strips. The food tasted fine overall and I decided to eat the food over two meals and refrigerated the food. However, when I went to heat up the food, the chilled lo mein dish was covered with white colored congealed gel indicating the greasiness of the food. Visa/MC accepted: $10 minimum DELIVERY: $1 charge/$10 minimum (Amesbury); $2 charge/$15 minimum (Merrimac, Newburyport, Salisbury, Seabrook NH, South Hampton NH) read more

Rude delivery driver. This is your job is to bring food to me. Don't complain about where my driveway is and tell me I need to change me street name. It's sad these people hire such bad people. Guess another place will be getting my money read more

This is the original downtown Amesbury Chinese take-out spot. I have gotten so many letter D plates over the years (That's pork fried rice, steak teryaki, chicken fingers and boneless ribs). The food is always great and prepared quickly. They don't deep fry the teriyaki or take tons of short cuts like the uber-cheap places do. The entree dishes are also right on. Nothing fancy but when you're looking for that Chinese -American take-out look no further. PASS read more

We have been ordering from China Star for over 15 years including for many special occasions and have always found the food to be hot, delicious and with generous portions. Never a disappointment! Service is courteous and excellent too. They even call if they have questions. read more

The food here is decent, I don't order Chinese food much but when I do I usually pick here. Deliveries come pretty quick and their prices are very manageable, when I go in I usually see the same customer wearing the same shirt all the time and ordering the same D plate so I see they have a lot of regulars. At least they have good prices. read more

Terrific food, probably some of the best crab rangoon around. Service is quick and efficient. They deliver to Newburyport. Orders are always accurate and absolutely delicious. They are also very polite and accommodating when it comes to substituting items in a combo or dinner plate. read more

Good cheap Chiense food. They deliver super late on weekends to fufill all your drunken cravings! The veggie lo-mein was always good and my friends loved the crab rangoons. read more

Love it!! Every time I come home I try to get some China star. I try lots of chinese food...this may be one of my favorites!!

this place got 5 stars because they took our order 8 minutes before they closed tonight and didn't give us a hard time about it. They close at 10pm. We called and placed our order at 9:52pm (rude? yeah but we didnt realize they closed at 10 until we got there!), we pulled up front at 9:59pm and they seemed happy to serve us. We got a small order of chicken fried rice, small chicken fingers and a small order of steak teriyaki. It was just over $15 which we thought was reasonable. Everything is SO delicious here, by far the best chinese food in the area. We would definitely recommend. read more

They deliver to Newburyport!! Very tasty food, I have never had something I didn't like. Most flavorful dumplings, crunchy on the outside, but soft and chewy on the inside. Their selection of lo mein and noodles is great! The General gaus chicken wings and the King ribs are after hours party food of the highest caliber. read more

Far from fancy, but the food is fresh and the portions are huge. Their General Gao's chicken is outstanding.

Gave this place another shot. Still better options like Jade 3 right down the street.

Horrible!! The food is nothing more than MSG saturated MOOSH. It looked, smelled, and tasted disgusting. The food was delivered lukewarm /cold. Their crab rangoons were passable but the rest was beyond awful. I would not recommend this garbage to my worst enemies, STAY CLEAR!!! I don't know what caused the other posters to recommend this place, my only explanation is they are plants posted by this restaurant, who delivered "Kitchen Nightmares" worthy garbage that made us sick. read more

Only eat here of your wasted and no other place is open. Place hasn't been updated since the 80s, PFR is way to dark and tastes bad. I would not recommend any food here. With all the places that go in and out of business in town, I have no idea how this place stays open. read more

The best Chinese food I've ever had! Really friendly staff and never any complaints. I recommend this place to everyone!

Best Chinese food in town! Portion sizes usually have me saving some for left overs the next day (if my husband doesn't eat it on me). The service is great and fast for the most part, only time it can get slow is Friday and Saturday nights but that is understandable. Their Orange Chicken, Rangoons, and Spare Ribs are the best I've had in this area. read more

Absolutely hands down my favorite Chinese food in Amesbury Ma! Dinners are a great deal always fresh.

Great if you're drunk late night fri or sat, but if you're sober on a Tuesday go with jade III for much better food

The food is good. Price is average for a Chinese takeout joint. Service is usually decent, but could be a little friendlier.

one thing that is especially consistent about the food there is the mystery meat, it is always gristly. horrible, horrible food & never again! read more

Wow... The food has gone WAY down hill here! Gonna have to downgrade the status here to only after a late night out at the bar snack. Crab Rangoons are still top notch but all else has failed! read more

It really doesn't get any better. We alternate between here and Jade III and think both are awesome. Yes, once in a while it isn't so great, but when you get it about once a month odds are good that will happen. Our typical order usually consists of one or two of the following: PuPu Platter, Dumplings, General Gao Chicken and recently we got the house rice needles and they were really good!! read more

Ordered takeout on Tuesday 2/12/19 for a pre-storm meal. One word to describe the meal when I opened the bag at home. Disgusting!! My head almost exploded! All the fried items were burnt to oblivion! Ran goons, chicken wings, spring rolls . I have never been so disappointed at any Chinese restaurant that I've eaten. Never again! read more

This is by far the worst Chinese food I've ever had. Hot and sour soup was redish. Add tomatoes? Not good. Hawaiian beef, no taste, tough meat. Lo mein was very dry, no taste. Won ton soup, not ggod. Egg roll was great and so were the crab rangoons. Sorry China Star. read more

We decided to switch it up last night and get takeout from China Star rather than their competitor down the street, which is where we usually order from. After our order, we're going to stick with the other place. Lo Mein & "Garlic" Noodles were dry, bland, and boring. Garlic noodles had little to no flavor, and had no sauce whatsoever. It was as if someone placed the noodles in a paper towel and completely dried them off before serving them. And, they should have been cooked a tad longer in my opinion. I ordered the white rice and veggies and was completely unimpressed. Again, no sauce. The veggies were strange- I was expecting your usual vegetables from Chinese restaurants: pea pods, beans, onions, water chestnuts, mushrooms, etc. There were HUGE pieces of tomato (as if someone cut a tomato into 3rds & threw it in!) There was a variety of vegetables but it was mostly big pieces of onion. Rice was under cooked. Spring roll was good, but nothing special. Prices are cheap (and reflect quality of food) and servings are generous. read more

Don't bother. They claim its too busy and give you an hour and half delivery time to the next town over (Newburyport) to either force you to pick up or discourage the order all together. This has happened 3 times. Keeping customers isn't important to them. read more

Talk about greasy food, horrible experience. Wife was sick for days. When we called to complain about quality we were put on hold ( receiver left off hook on counter). Which I heard another customer complaint about food. I was disappointed as good Chinese on north shore is hard to find. read more
