Very bland atmosphere. Ordered sesame chicken, egg rolls, and a Pepsi. The chicken was dry and the sauce was very sour. The egg rolls weren't terrible but also not the best. The unopened can of Pepsi was flat so I'm not sure how old that was. There was also rotting fruit on the counter. I will not be going back.

Wouldn't refund my money gave me only 2 bucks

Served me under cooked food & when I came to return the food he took it to the back ..then refused to refund my money then gave me only 2 dollars when I threatened to write this review

    Flavorless wonton soup. Warm water.

Visiting Shepherdstown on a road trip. This is the WORST Chinese food I have ever eaten. The soup was flavorless, and the tables were dirty. The lady was on her phone, and never once washed her hands. The food was mediocre at best, and tasted like it was thrown in the microwave. Absolutely disgusting.

Dried ginger mango chicken and general tso's chicken. Egg roll on the left. Big pot of jasmine tea comes with everything.

This is our go-to Chinese food. The General Tso's chicken is the best I've had. They are masterful with the steamed broccoli on the side of the dish. The chicken is good quality instead of the garbage sinewy stuff you tend to get elsewhere. And it has a crispy breading coated in a very flavorful sauce. So far, I've tried their lemon chicken ( breaded with a tangy and bright flavor), General Tso's chicken (the winner), orange chicken (wannabe General Tso's), and today I tried the Dried Ginger Mango Chicken. I've enjoyed them all. The ginger mango chicken is like a sweet and sour chicken with cooked carrot, snap peas, and mushrooms. But instead of breaded chicken, it is thin slices of tender white meat. It had what tastes like big chunks of cooked apple in it, but I'm guessing that was mango. Usually I eat my mangoes fresh, so it was new to me. I would get this again. Always always always get the eggroll! They come piping hot and fresh with a great crispy wrapper. They are delicious, but beware the heat. You really need to cut them open so they can cool first. I also highly recommend the hot and sour soup. It is spicy, full of tofu and strips of mushroom and bamboo. Bring a tissue, because your nose will start running. Worth it. I'd imagine that getting it for takeout when you have a head cold would be positively medicinal. I really wish we were closer, so I could eat here more often. They bring you this big metal pot of strong tea, ice water, and a bowl of those crunchy won-ton strips with your menus. The staff is quietly attentive. It's a family-run establishment. The food is quick, fresh and of good quality. I particularly enjoy this restaurant on a brisk day when I've been wandering around Shepherdstown and need to warm up. It's comfort food basically. So yea, you should give it a shot.

China Kitchen (or "Betty's" to frequent diners like us) is a Shepherdstown landmark. We have been customers for well over 20 years, so my love is deep for Betty & her husband!! They serve simple, satisfying, traditional home-cooked Chinese food. Our absolute favorites: Crispy Beef Pork (or chicken) Fried Rice Kung Pao Combination Pork in Black Bean Sauce Moo Shi Pork (or chicken) Hot & Sour Soup Beef Cho Cho Also their eggrolls & wonton soup are super delicious. Betty's is our local go-to-place for Chinese. We're always satisfied when we dine-in or order carry-out!!

Pretty good! I would recommend it I had the China Kitchen Lo Mein and I was pretty impressed. We live in Harper's Ferry just moved to WV and so far this has been the best in all this area. The Children's special comes with a lot of food, btw you could feed 3 small children. The Jasmine Tea was great, had never been served to lk that with my meal.

We went in for dinner but asked first if they could accommodate gluten free, and they didn't seem to really know. We left.

The Hot and Sour soup was flavorful and was full of veggies, and my wife's egg drop soup was great, not bland the way many places make it.

The menu is filled with lots of varied choices, including Chinese, Vietnamese, and Thai dishes. And to top it all off, the cost of this delicious food is VERY reasonable. Today, for lunch, I ordered Mongolian Beef, accompanied by hot and sour soup, which was perfectly seasoned and balanced, a spring roll, and rice. I had enough to take home left after consuming enough to be satisfied. I recommend that you make Modern Asia your "go-to" Asian restaurant.

SU ordered Kung Pao Shrimp, her "go-to" and every Asian restaurant, and compares each one to China Garden's version. Her verdict: Modern Asia's was "OK", and she told me I could eat the leftovers for my lunch. I did. My verdict was the same: OK, but nothing to write home to Mother about. (My comparison, BTW, is to a restaurant we enjoyed in Ithaca New York that made Kung Pao with peppers that would flay your face from the inside if you dared to eat one. Modern Asia's didn't even tickle, making it a let down). I ordered Seafood Combination Chinese Yellow Curry, a new dish for me. It was yummy. Described as one-pepper spicy on the menu, it had less heat than the Kung Pao, but the curry sauce had layers of flavor. It featured shrimp, scallops, and calmari plus a wonderful mix of peppers, onions, and other veg. All were nicely (crisply) cooked, even taking into account the Door Dash delivery time. I really enjoyed it. Next time I may ask for a bit more heat, but as it is, I hoovered up every morsel. Try it - you'll like it!
