The food was terrible. We ordered sesami chicken , pineapple fried rice and dumpling. First of all, chicken quality is ok. Ill give a one star for that. But the sauce was Sooooo SALTY. Rice was sooooo mushy and had nO flavor. Dumplings were so soggy and the meat didnt seem to be cooked well. The service is good but would not go back again. I HIGHLY recommend chefs having better cooking training or the restaurant shouldn't even be in business. I wasted my 39$ at the restaurant and barely ate the food. Just picked up my order, it was affordable and on time with no wait, and the new place was very nice and clean. The important part- the food was so good. I ordered the shrimp lo mein, which was just what i wanted, so good- not too greasy, good mix of protein and veg- tastes like takee outee back home in florida. and great big portion. We've been here twice (the first time we just ordered carry out) and both times really enjoyed our meals. The staff was SUPER nice and the restaurant was fairly quiet. We split an appetizer of crab rangoon which was delicious and very filling. My husband had the volcano roll which was served on foil with a small "volcano" on the side - very cute presentation. I had the combination pad Thai. Both dishes were large portions and neither of us could finish our meal. We each had 2 beers with dinner and our total bill was $45 which I thought was very reasonable! Christmas night and this was one of the few restaurants open. I have been coming here for years and the restaurant was full of take out customers. The staff, especially the front staff, did a remarkable job of handling customers and the chaos of having so many orders and not enough staff. When I finally got my food, it was hot and delicious. It was well worth the wait. I just want to say thank you for being open when no one else was. You guys were polite and maintained your sense of humor in the midst of chaos. This is our go-to Chinese restaurant because the food is reliable enough and this area has very few decent food options in general. I do love their hot & sour soup, which is the biggest draw for me. My usual appetizer favs that I avoid from here are spring rolls (way too oily), egg rolls (basically just limp cabbage and dough), and lettuce wraps (goopy, flavorless, and way too sweet). Sushi is not great but it's edible. The various main dishes we've tried have all been acceptable. read more

I have eaten at China Fortune 3 times and only once it's been ok. The last time I ate here I found a sharp piece of plastic that she said it was a chicken bone and was very dismissive about it and at no time apologized. The piece of plastic poked and lodged itself into my gum between two molars and I was bleeding, it was painful and I had to dig into my mouth to pull it out, this landed me in my dentist's chair. She did run and got a napkin and quickly took the piece of plastic away. She then came back and told me that her "manager " wasn't there and she couldn't give me a refund but she could give me something else and asked me if I wanted steamed rice or fried rice, I said fried and I literally got steamed rice with soy sauce, that's it. But beyond all that happened what bothered me the most was there was never an apology, never a let me know if you're ok, nothing and her words were "I give you free food and everything's ok" , uhhhh hello I just paid for something I couldn't eat, so no, everything isn't ok. Her flippant and dismissive attitude was what was upsetting. Never again will this restaurant get a dime from me. The food is mediocre and lacking flavor and the service isn't great. My husband and I went this past weekend to China Fortune to order for the first time. Between the service, food and Covid practices, we'll be back. Service: the owner and his wife were really nice to my husband and myself while we waited for our food. They sat masked behind their plastic screens the entire time and had two bottles of hand sanitizer there for customers. I appreciated that. Looking back, I realize now that despite everyone being masked the entire time, we probably should have waited outside so that they wouldn't get nervous being in the same room as other patrons. Food: my husband got General Tso's chicken. I got the triple delight. We also got crab Rangoon and egg rolls. My husband's General Tso's was apparently so good, he wouldn't share with me so I can't quite comment about that dish. I enjoyed my triple delight! It had a motley of everything- chicken, beef, shrimp, and a good amount of veggies that I enjoy. We both liked that the crab rangoon and egg rolls were fried but didn't taste "greasy." The thing I noticed the most was how heavy our bag was when we left the store. It's a lot of food and made enough for leftovers for Monday's lunch. Covid measures: China Fortune uses two plastic shields at the cashier area and has blocked off the rest of the restaurant. They even took time to spritz my credit card with hand sanitizer before handing it back. It was funny. Dine in was not available as of this past weekend when we went. We fed a family of 5 for $70 dollars. The food was so fresh. Most Asian restaurants (the good ones anyways) will serve the food as it is finished rather than allow it to sit in a hot hold until it is all finished. This means people get their plates at different times, but that their plates are FRESH! The presentation was gorgeous. My plate was so pretty, I almost didn't want to eat it....almost. I got the Orchid sushi roll, and it was divine. The server was attentive and polite, and the owner visited us tableside to inquire about our experience. My wife and I stopped in for dinner last night on the way home from Dulles Airport, and it was the perfect welcome home. We split the fried dumplings (which were good) and fried chicken wings (which were just OK), while I had the Szechuan crispy beef entree, and my wife had the triple delight. I always try the Szechuan crispy beef at restaurants, and am often disappointed. Either it gets served soggy, or so crispy as to be like burnt wire. So I consider it to be a good dish to judge whether a Chinese restaurant knows what it's doing. They always do a good job of it here. China Fortune is our favorite of the Chinese restaurants in Charles Town, and the only one we bother with anymore when there. If we know we'll be coming back from Dulles around dinner time, we always make a point of stopping here. read more

I come here almost once a week, the servers are always very nice and even remember me, my family, and friends...and also what we usually order (so they're pretty attentive and hard working!). I mostly love coming here for lunch, good portions, good price, and I love the lunch time beef with brocolli. Lunch time prices are great cuz for under $9 after tax you get a cup of soup, main course with fried rice, a big egg roll, the table crunchy noodles, and drink. Crunchy noodles and sauce are always nice to snack-on and they always have these fresh on the table while you order. Sometimes the food does seem slightly better than others but regardless I still come back here. I've heard a lot of complaints about this place since it took over the new building where a horrible Chinese buffet used to be, so I was very hesitant to try it. After talking to people and looking at the negative reviews, it appears that most people are complaining that 1 - they don't have a buffet anymore and 2- they aren't your typical take out joint with multiple sizes, standardized dishes and such. If you want your stereo typical #5 combo with fried rice for cheap, there are plenty of cheap-o Chinese places in the area. China Fortune is trying to fill the void left by Shu Chens closing in the area by becoming a nice, dine in restaurant. The menu has a lot of the familiar offerings from your standard Chinese menus, but they also have specials that are quite different from your standard places. They also change the specials regularly, so there are always new dishes to try. In addition to that, they also offer sushi and sashimi. After trying it several times, I can honestly say that the only time we didn't devour everything we ordered was when I ordered a new dish to try that I didn't particularly like - but that was just my individual taste. Their sushi is quite good. We've tried a lot of it too - sashimi of various fish; nigiri with tuna, flying fish roe, or salmon; the standard tuna roll; and many of their special rolls as well. We have yet to try any sushi there that we haven't loved. The entrees we have gotten have been quite good as well. Breaded dishes like General Tso's aren't the heavily breaded dough wads that a lot of take out joints have - you can actually taste the meat inside. Service has always been pretty speedy and courteous. All in all, my only complaint would be that since I love trying the special dishes, which change often, I sometimes find myself having to hunt for something new to eat because the dish I intended to get has been replaced by something new... but that's not exactly a bad thing, since a lot of the new specials have been pretty great too. read more

This review is for takeout only. We ordered a few different things to try and they were ready in the specified 20minute time frame. Prices are very reasonable, and they have chopsticks and hot sauce available on request. Now for the food: Salt & Pepper Shrimp (prawns): sub-par. They don't include the shell here (which I actually prefer, but FYI for those who don't) and the breading was thick and chewy instead of crispy and light. Also peppers weren't spicy at all. Singapore rice noodles: Good flavor, cooked well, have shrimp and pork in them. I liked! Pork fried rice: Delicious flavor, fried rice as I always want it to be and rarely get it at Americanized Chinese food places. Kung Pao Chicken: This was the BEST. Not just in this order I mean, but the best example of KPC I've ever had at a chinese restaurant. I feel like I always expect this to have some spice and flavor but I end up with questionable chicken and a bland brown sauce - this was not! It was flavorful, just the right amount of spicy, and had delicious veggies and peanuts. Dumplings: Blah - bland, boring, chewy. Wouldn't get again. So, seems they do some things well and others not so much. All in all, if I'm in the area I would order from them again. read more
