I checked out China Kitchen, as they just reopened. I think the place has new ownership. The food is terrible. The fried chicken dishes are now using frozen, mechanically processed meat. Ordered the crap Rangoon, beef and broccoli platter (no broccoli), and the sweet and sour chicken platter. The crab Rangoon has an okay flavor but a little too sweet. It also has a very thick wrapper and an odd coating. Almost like a flour coating on the inside that leaves that thick coating in your mouth. Also not really a lot of filling. W get them again. The rice was good. No complaints there but I'd like more onion in it to give it a little more flavor. The beef from the beef and broccoli was tender and the sauce was garlicy. The issue was way too much sauce and only a couple of pieces of beef. The chicken from the sweet and sour chicken was good. Not too thick of a coating which I appreciate. The egg roll is huge. I'd like it smaller because it's so much cabbage and it overpowers everything. But it was still good. Total for 2 platters and crab Rangoon was $22. Not bad overall. read more

I got to work and there were plenty of vegetables....no chicken! I called and told them and they said they will give me a credit next time. I didn't bother. Mistakes happen. We don't have any "good" Chinese restaurant on this side of town so I decided to try this one since it's fairly new. The chicken wings were pretty good and so was the House fried rice (I had better). I'm glad it's here so if I want Chinese I don't have to drive so far. I will try different items in the future. read more

We were so impressed with our initial small order we got earlier that we decided to do a bigger order. That was a mistake. While the fried rice and egg rolls were great as before our the new dishes we tried were a disappointment. Our order included hot and sour soup, Moo goo Gai Pan and egg foo young all had mushrooms in it. I love mushrooms and expected them but unfortunately they were canned mushrooms. In this day and age of abundant mushrooms available there is little excuse for using canned mushrooms. The people I met in the restaurant waiting for my order seemed to love the rice and their chicken wings. We will return for their rice and egg roills but not ordrer anything that would have canned mushrooms in it. read more

The rice is nasty. They are using a cheaper rice instead of jasmine and soaking it in oil. Disgusting

I've been a couple a times as it's close to work and the food just isn't good. It's overly salty and the way things are fried just tastes different from typical Chinese take-out. 2 stars is for ignorant service. Employee working behind the counter to answer phones and take payments is rude. I guess she was hired because she speaks English, but it's not helping this business. I tried placing an order today and for ten minutes I couldn't get anyone there to answer the phone. When she did pick up, I could barely hear what she was saying, mumbled an order number and then just hung up. Not the first complaint about service and the counter employee(s) for this place and where I work. I've been the only one bothered enough to write a review. All in all, not worth it. Went there yesterday. Asked for an extra gravy for our egg foo young. The young female with the braids showed me the size. It looked like a quart. When we got home, I noticed she gave us 2 pints; much smaller probably a pint. She did not tell me she was giving us smaller containers; would have been nice to know. If she made a mistake, she didn't even tell me she made a mistake so if we needed another one we could have ordered it. I'm sure if it was her on the other side of the counter she would have like someone to tell her. Called to speak to manager today. He said the smaller size is what comes with the egg foo young. I said I would like to have known that. He said he would tell her. He didn't speak as if he cared. As if it was no big deal. Also, what we purchased was not that good. I work close to China Kitchen and gave it a try a few months ago. Their wonton and hot and sour soups are so good and cheap that it's been my workday lunch go to ever since. They also have great spring rolls and egg rolls that are never greasy like some places I've tried. Their bourbon chicken is amazing, crispy with a sweet addictive sauce. I'm not a fried rice fan so I wasn't surprised that I didn't like theirs. However, their plain steamed white rice is the perfect accompaniment to their sauced dishes. They get crazy busy at lunchtime, so call ahead to avoid a wait. I'm constantly amazed by their customer service.
