The worst Chinese food I've ever had. The chicken in the fried rice looked like worms, slimy and disgusting. Couldn't even attempt to eat it. Also had the kung pao beef, which looked much better than the fried rice, but that's as far as the compliments go. No flavor whatsoever. Asked for no mushrooms, meal was loaded with mushrooms. I've been ordering from here for years. China King is by far the best Chinese food in the area! Tonight's visit was one of my best experiences yet. The staff was extremely helpful, she even explained to us the difference between chow mein and lo mein. If you spend $30 - you get free egg rolls. $40 gets you free Rangoon. Never go!!!! The starter was egg rolls. Nothing inside besides cabbage. Worst I have ever eaten Beef fried rice worse that the egg rolls. 3 ingredients rice, onion and a very few pieces of tough beef. Did not see any egg, bean sprouts or water cress. Was not worth the 12 bucks I spent nor the ride from Lowell to Crown Point. Take this as a warning try someplace else. read more

This is the only Chinese Takeout place in Crown Point that's actually good. Their fried food is crunchy, the noodles are cooked correctly, and the fried rice isn't just rice. I will actually drive 15 minutes out of my way to go here instead of Hot Wok or China Star because the prices justify it. A+. read more

I give this place four stars for portion size!!! I had a taste for Chinese one Satruday afternoon, so I decided to try China King off of the square in Crown Point. It was on my way home, so I stopped in. The staff was speaking in Chinese, which is always a good sign when you are wanting something which has some degree of authenticity. I wouldn't say this is 'authentically' Chinese, but then again, I don't much care for the 'authentic' Chinese cuisine I've had from friends and in Vancouver's Chinatown. This is Americanized stuff. I oredered a combination dinner to go....roasted pork chow fun, with pork fried rice and an eggroll. This set me back $6.90. When the manager gave me my food, I couldn't believe how heavy the package was!!!! It must have weighed two pounds. I got it home, and it was packed full and high into a foil serving tray, and I am telling you it was enough for three separate meals. So I gotta give kudos for the portion size and the value. Did it taste good? Yeah, it tasted good. Plenty of roasted pork in the noodles. The egg roll was hot and crisp, and all the food stayed hot for a long time. Was it greasy? Yeah, it was greasy. It was greay enough for me to have a small gall bladder attack int he middle of the night. WOuld I go back again? Yeah, I would definately go back again, for the sheer value of it. I have no idea how this place has 4 stars! It is garbage. The chicken, in the dishes, tastes like rubber and the beef is certainly not beef. And everything tastes bland. How can that be??? I thought for sure the egg rolls would be good, I mean it is a Chinese restaurant, but they were terrible! Not a single fork was given. I ordered from here because we had not tried it and was thoroughly disappointed.... The guy taking the order clearly hated his life and didn't have any manners taking my order. He held onto this even as I picked up the food. The General Tso Chicken was mushy and tasted just ...odd. Same goes for the sweet and sour chicken. Is it even fresh chicken? The world may never know. Strangely enough, the crab rangoon was burnt and crusty! This place is very good and reasonably priced. My family and I had the crab rangoon, shrimp egg rolls, wonton soup, shrimp fried rice, and Kung pao chicken. The egg rolls were delicious. The wonton soup was also very good. It was simple with just wontons and some scallions in a tasty broth. The shrimp fried rice did not have peas, which I appreciate. We live in Valparaiso, In., and every Christmas, we go to Crown Pt., In., to get carry out at China King. This food, by far, is THE BEST Chinese food in northwest Indiana. If you live anywhere in Lake or Porter Co's in Indiana or Cook Co., in Illinois, it is worth everything to travel there and EAT!!!! I lived in Crown Point nearly my whole life. I moved to Valparaiso in November and I have yet to find a Chinese restaurant nearly as good as China King. Every other Friday for nearly 2 years solid, I would order the House Special Mei Fun, a little spicy and an order of steamed dumplings. The lady knew me when I called and if I altered my order in the slightest she would ask me "No spicy today? or No steamed dumplings today? Their food has always been piping hot and always tasted great. I have never once had a bad dish in this restaurant. The service is always great. The counter lady, who told me she was the manager there, is always very nice. I have seen her deal with a crazy irate customer, and she kept her composure and handled it well. China King is hands down the best Chinese restaurant in Northwest Indiana. Any time I meet someone new and we start talking about food, I always talk about China King or their Mei Fun, which is probably my #3 favorite food. The only reason I went 4 stars is because I usually just get general tsao, noodles, and crab rangoons so I can't say I'm an expert. Also, it's fast!!! Colin is right, the portions usually are huge. Every package is overfilled. The little lady at the counter and her daughter who is usually there right after school doing homework are adorable. We're big on takeout, and occasionally buy from Dragon Express and Jade Garden in Valpo. This one is as good, or better, than either. Colin is right about the grease, too. Hot Singapore Chow Mei Fun will definitely lube your arteries. Typical 200 item menu. We have been going to this restaurant for take out for years. Now they have gone into delivery. The place is small and a dive but the food is great. I have three criticisms. 1. Call to find out if they deliver. Sometimes it was too late or they did not have a driver. 2. They pack it so much that it tends to leak into the plastic sacks. 3. Bad area to park. Its best to park in the library parking lot and walk to the place then park right there. Great price and great food. read more

I recently moved to Valpo after living in the Crown Point/Schererville area. I have searched far and wide to find a comparable Chinese restaurant to China King. They are hands down the best Chinese food you can eat. I used to visit the China buffet in Merrillville by Home Depot and they had a dish on the buffet called mei fun. It was amazing. One night, my husband and I were looking for Chinese food. We had a menu for China King and they had mei fun on their menu. I ordered the House Special Mei Fun and it was one of the best dishes I had ever had in my life. From there on out, I was hooked on China King. I would order the HSMF every other week with an order of steamed dumplings. The food was always very hot, delicious, and you got a lot for your money. I have never had Chinese food leftovers that tasted good the next day, but China King's seem to taste a little better the next day! I have ordered the same dish pretty much every few times a month for about 3 years. The lady at the counter (I thought she was the owner, but she is the manager) recognizes my voice and knows what I want. The nights I actually order something different it throws her off! Simply put... if you want a delicious meal that will stay completely hot, fresh and give you value for your money, go to China King. It is seriously amazing and the staff is always very nice. The "chicken" in the chicken fried rice was disgusting..and the Mongolian beef I ordered, was definitely not beef...still trying to figure out what it was..Rice was dry and the over all flavors of the 3 dishes we ordered were bland and just nasty. So disappointed!!! We will for sure drive to another town to get Chinese food, after the nightmare from this place fade away. read more

I have zero complaints about their take-out. It's awesome!! I have never eaten in, so that doesn't factor into my review. Regardless, the orange chicken and General tso chicken is awesome, as are their lo mein noodles. If you're craving Chinese food, get it from here. It's the perfect balance of good & cheap! read more
