Place is clean along with the restroom but the food is sub par and not worth even taking a picture of. The egg rolls tasted so bad I couldn't eat half of one and the crab rangoon was dripping with oil. This place makes the china house like a 5 star dining experience. Total waste of time and money. The picture on yelp is not accurate. They haven't had sit down in a long time... covid helped wipe that out but for carry out... you can't beat it. I ordered theought their website and food was 30 minutes late. They didn't know where it was when I called the restaurant. Once it arrives, the delivery person demands that I tip him. He would not leave my door and kept pointing at the credit card slip on the tip line and stayed there for almost 5 minutes. This never happened to me before and I would have tip him cash but I was already charged almost $10 extra between delivery fee, credit card fee and processing fee on top of the cost of the food. A hidden gem in Sycamore! We dined in for dinner and ordered the Kung pao shrimp, orange chicken, general tso, and mandarin chicken. All of it was D-elicious!! The food makes up for the decor or lack thereof. Give it a try. You will not be disappointed. read more

I would give this restaurant zero stars if I could. I just went there for the first time today and the food was horrible. The egg drop soup had no chicken broth and it tasted like just water. The egg foo yong did not taste good. The gravy was very lumpy. The shrimp fried rice had almost no flavor at all. The only thing that was good was the fortune cookies, and the crab Rangoon. In the area on business and was looking for some Chinese. Went here on the previous reviews. I ordered sweet and sour pork. It came with rice and soup but they did substitute the soup for an egg roll. The pork was very tender however since I was the first customer of the day, I was expecting my food to be hot. Medium warm at best, which tends to leave the food tasting a bit greasy. The rice was plain. Had one pea and some onions. It was a pasty gray and not a lot of flavor. The egg roll was a chicken egg roll, also warm not hot. Not sure any of this was freshly made. If you are looking for good Chinese try someplace else read more

I ordered cashew chicken The chicken was breaded like chicken nuggets. It was so dry. Tasted like the chicken was dehydrated. I called and they did offer to make something else for me but I declined since the cashew chicken was so terrible. It ended up in the garbage. Consistently good food, low prices, and friendly staff. Even in the summer, I welcome a bowl of their hot and sour soup! We've ordered close to everything on the menu and it's all been delicious. We do each have our favorites, I love the mongolian beef, my daughter loves the shrimp in lobster sauce, and we both love the crab rangoon. The lunch and dinner specials are the best way to go if you are watching your wallet, but the deal for me is the dinner for (2, 3, 4 etc) as you get soup, appetizers, and a full size entree per person. I ordered orange chicken dinner on the app called eat street. Came with the chicken and chicken fried rice. I eat shrimp fried rice so I tried to change it to Shrimp but wouldn't allow me. I went into other dinners meal and had the option to change the rice. So I order she shrimp fried rice ale cart to solve my issue. I get the food. Food hot. Chickenn taste good. I am obsessed with this place- they make some of the best Kung Pao chicken I have ever had...and I have tried Kung Pao across the nation...I am that obsessed. Their hot and sour soup is delicious and their egg roles are perfect. I have not been back to this restaurant for at least a year, but have heard from friends that they are still good. I had General Tao Chicken. There was very little chicken and what chicken there was, was dry and chewy. My wife had Cashew Chicken and stated it was good. The crab Rangoon was good. We had water and the bill with 20% tip was close to 30.00. The place did not appear clean to me and there was an odor which my wife thought was cooking oil. OK ... we have ordered take out a couple of times since my review of this place (China Inn). I ordered a chicken dish. I was grossed out. The container had 2 different types of chicken in it; one coated in what tasted liked baking soda and corn starch...fried; the other more of a NON coated, very cold, maybe microwaved frozen product. My spouse ordered a shrimp/scallop meal. Only 3 VERY small shrimp and scallops like I have never seen ... resembling pencil erasers. Not many of those thankfully. Amazing! I have NEVER had Chinese food this good that came via delivery. Delivery Chinese food is generally mediocre at best. China Inn has raised the bar. I ordered the shredded pork in garlic sauce, chicken fried rice, and the crab rangoon. The delivery was prompt AND I ordered online, which only took a few minutes. The crab rangoon was crunchy and the filling was savory with a touch of sweetness. It was the best rangoon I've ever had and its one of my favorite appetizers, so that's saying a lot. The shredded pork was good quality and loaded with fresh crunchy veggies! They were very fresh tasting. The garlic sauce was great and the garlic wasn't overpowering. Finally the fried rice was surprisingly light and the chicken was again very good quality. I have no complaints, only that my pork was supposed to be spicy and in my opinion it wasn't very spicy at all. I highly recommend China Inn. We've been going here for years and have seen it change ownership 3 times. Fairly new owners (maybe a year or so), only the adult kids speak English; definitely authentic! They are quite eager to please and deliver top quality service. Of all the owners, these guys are the best and it shows in the service and the food quality and preparation. The only drawback, their restrooms are less than appealing, they do need to get on that. Otherwise this is the best place in DeKalb County for authentic chinese quisine. This place seems pretty solid. I'm pretty picky when it comes to Chinese food (or any food) and I'm still searching for the best chicken fried rice in the county. The chicken fried rice I got from China Inn was very good with one small problem for me: It had HUGE slivers of onion in it. Generally I expect a little bit of green onion and I'm okay with that, but I don't like regular onions so much. China Inn's chicken friend rice also has a little bit of carrot and peas, which are fine and not too noticeable. I was a little disappointed that it appeared to be lacking bean sprouts. The crab rangoon was also very nice. The sweet and sour sauce they use is the radioactive red variety and not my favorite. In fact, I managed to spill most of it before i got home. And yet, despite all these petty things that kind of annoyed me, the taste was excellent and I will likely be back for their sweet and sour chicken at some point. read more

The China Inn, Sycamore, IL, has the best Chinese Food in the area! Small family place, top quality food and chef. We've tried it 5 times since December, 2012 and have had great dinners in the restaurent and for carry-out. Great fried dumplings, egg rolls, wonderful Mongolian Beef and the House Lo-Mein, combo of 3 different meats, is spectacular. The portions are generous for the money and delicious. Tonight is Chinese New Years and we are ordering carry-out Chciken with garlic sauce, Roast Pork with Broccoli, Mongolian Beef and House Lo-Mein. We have been regulars there for the last three years, often going at least once a week. While the food quality has stayed consistently good, the oldest son, Henry was terribly rude to us tonight- for the second, and last time. His sister, Jenny, was our server and stopped at our table to chat with us while she waited for the kitchen to finish preparing the orders for the only other table. Henry, who would normally ring the bell inside the kitchen to alert her food was ready, decided to come out to the dining room and scold me for talking to Jenny, saying that I shouldn't talk to her because they want to make sure all of the food comes fresh from the kitchen.Since we routinely spend at least $25 each time we go there, I feel like he could have scolded his sister for talking too much, rather than me. I am disappointed that he chose to act that way, since we have grown to like the family very much. However, there are plenty of other dining options in the area- ones that I'm pretty sure won't choose to scold me. read more
