Hands down my favorite Chinese place of all time. Like stated in the previous reviews Happy Wok is totally underrated for their food and they deserve a lot more credit than they get. I've noticed a rule at most restaurants (from personal experience) that the more items on the menu the food tends to be of a lesser quality but this is no way true for Happy Wok!! They have so many options and for some it might be a bit daunting but you will always have something new to try. My favorite is the pork fried rice and although it isn't the most expansive dish on their menu they knock it out of the park. Not only does the rice have amazing flavors, they go out of this world in making sure it isn't over soy sauced and the beef is cooked perfectly. While Happy Wok has both takeout and delivery I always prefer to go for takeout. They also have a drive-thru. But the reason I go for takeout is because no matter what they always have a smile on their faces there. I have never once in my entire life of going to Happy Wok felt like I wasn't welcome or that my order wasn't as important as the others. Fortune: Chinese Place who give only two sweet/sour packets for 2 big eggrolls and only one fortune cookie for two people dinner lose customer fast. Egg rolls good and hot. I used the barbeque pork to fix the holes in my shoes--dry and tough as leather--entree was overly sweet with tiny amount of beef and tons of onions. I stopped in to try this place and was very happy with the results. The staff were incredibly friendly! I ordered the orange chicken with fried rice as well as the crab rangoon appetizer. The chicken was juicy and the sauce has a really nice blend of heat and sweetness. The rangoons had a hearty amount of filling and were more on the savory side which I loved. 100% recommend giving this place a try! read more

I ordered beef fried rice, but the beef tasted old, and the crab rangoon was overcooked. I chose Happy Wok because it was a bit cheaper than Yen Ching. Next time, I'll pay the $3-4 extra and do Yen Ching. read more

Does this place carry utensils? I don't live in DeKalb, but visit every so often because my boyfriend goes to NIU. The food the first couple times was pretty decent, but they NEVER give utensils. I double checked with the woman in the drive through if they had packed any, and she assured me they did. Of course we get back home and there's no utensils or napkins. Today the same thing occurred but with delivery. We ordered honey chicken with veggies that we paid extra for. The restaurant never packed the veggies but still charged us for them. I'll show you the "honey chicken" -- basically just unseasoned fried chicken pieces with a literal cup of watered down honey. And again, no utensils after we especially asked for them. It's not about the forks, it's about customer service. The fact that they tell you they've done something as simple as give you utensils when they have neglected to do so more than once shows how much they care. Probably won't be going back. HANDS DOWN my favorite restaurant in Dekalb! Each meal was FAST, ACCURATE, and GREAT PORTIONS! So far I've tried (and recommend!) the SnowPea/Shrimp , the Garlic Chicken, chicken curry, and the sweet and sour chicken. You should try the Sesame balls for desert! Not to mention, the egg drop soup is the perfect fix for a killer hangover from a Friday night at stans. Where I'm from, I've never seen a drive through Chinese place- so I was SO SURPRISED when Happy Wok met all of my expectations for Chinese food. I ordered orange chicken with rice and crab Rangoons...it was absolutely delicious. The only thing I will say is that there was a hair in my orange chicken sauce, but honestly that didn't change my opinion because the food was THAT GOOD (and the sauce was on the side so I could easily throw it out). The drive through experience was so easy and quick, and it only cost $30 for my roommate and I to get a ton of food. Super affordable, friendly, and tasty! read more

Happy Wok is really underrated for good quality Chinese food. Here's what's good about it : everything is made fresh to order and comes out super fast. They even make the soup to order. They are really fast on delivery, too. Even though they over have one driver, most of the time I'll get my order within 15 minutes of when I called! Also, it's really inexpensive. Most of the dishes are available in a lunch size for $5.99, all day. They can make any dish however you like, too--for example they can sub tofu for meat at no charge. So it's super vegetarian friendly. I mean, where else call you get General Tso's Tofu?? It's open late, til 10 p.m. every day too. As far as Chinese food goes, Happy Wok is a great option when you're in a hurry or out late. Each location has its own "best" dish, though a tasty fried rice seems a common factor in all. For the DeKalb location, I recommend the Sweet and Sour Chicken (they're light on the breading) and the egg rolls, which are just stellar. In addition to good food, the staff is friendly and helpful. Most are willing to make a suggestion if you can not decide what you want, and they have yet to steer me wrong. Like most Happy Wok locations there is little "atmosphere", in part due to their nature as fast food joints. Mistakes are corrected quickly and in whatever way you'd prefer, either through credit or the drivers will even bring you any food you're missing or is incorrect, free of charge. If you call and report a complaint they're always happy to help you. Everything is easily customizable and most changes can be made upon request. Any questions about ingredients can be answered by just about anyone who works there. As for prices, you definitely get all that you pay for. There's a good variety in menu items to suit everyone's taste and individual ingredients can be removed, replaced, or added. 1st and last Happy Wok for me!!! CURRY SHRIMP: 8 regular size shrimp in a container full of mainly vegetables. And 8 sweet biscuits instead of 10! NO EXAGGERATING... Cashier was friendly but she pretty much needed to be since they had yet to start cooking my food when I showed up ~10 minutes after my pick-up time; there was one person inside eating and I prepaid for the meal so there was no reason for the delay. I ordered the chicken lomein for delivery, like I have so many times before. I was so excited when I got it, opened it up and became seriously disappointed. The first, most obvious thing I noticed was the fact that the noodles were "naked" there was no sauce. After eating a fork-full I realized they not only didn't have the sauce on it, but used spaghetti noodles!!!! I called to ask for a refund; rather than "making the customer happy" they tried to defend the garbage by saying that is how they always make it, "there is no sauce." I have bought it there at least 3 other times and it always had sauce, and Asian noodles, not spaghetti! I did not get my refund, which I deserve, I'm not eating this garbage. In addition, I entered "lo mein" into wikipedia and looked under Asian American Cuisine: "In American Chinese restaurants, lo mein is a popular take-out food. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!! Wish they had a option for no stars! I went here for a take out dinner last night ordered Mongolian Chicken and Large shrimp fried rice. When I got home I noticed that the Mongolian Chicken had barely any chicken except for small shreds , basically it was 90% vegetables. Now not a major deal but not what I was expecting, so I called just to exchange chicken for Generals chicken my usual order. When the lady owner got on the phone I told her the issue which I got a immediate response of me being "a LIAR and eating all the chicken" at this point I was so angry I'm on my way with ENTIRE order, for a full refund. When I got there I told her I come here often and I really just wanted a exchange chicken and she just had the worst customer service attitude I've ever experienced, she did give me a refund but she was also telling me she "didn't give a shit" and "don't care." I personally will never come back here because of her and her nasty attitude, if you do go just hope they get it right the first time so you don't have to deal with any of this mess I had to encounter last night. read more

Really poor quality food and service. I've had a lot of Chinese food in Dekalb and many other places. This is hands down the WORST Chinese ever. It was nearly inedible. Both the General Tso's and Sesame chicken had very soggy breading and the sauces were extremely similar and odd....very sweet, but with an unpleasant aftertaste. I think the only difference between the two is the sesame seeds thrown on top of the sesame chicken. Egg rolls were very small and tasted of dirty sink water. The delivery driver was very nice, but the lady on the phone was extremely rude. Seriously, eat elsewhere...hell eat Top Ramen, it would be better. read more
