This is a hopping hole in the wall. The decor is minimal and the staffing even more so. Their phone never stops ringing for to-go orders. The food is good but needs more seasoning. The portions are huge and their prices are fair. Order the half size of the soup, the full size can feed like 6 people. Such a hard decision to get food here. Food is better than our other choice of Chinese Food in Brawley. But the service is horrible. The girl charging the food gave the guy ahead of me wrong change and when the owner is trying to tell her she needs to think about the mathematics in giving back change, she tells her very snippy she only gives the amount the cash register "tells her". I called in my order for a lunch plate, wonton soup and BBQ pork (1/2 order) and it took over an hour for it to be ready. Good food, generous portions. Ordered a lunch plate to go. Sweet and sour pork, pork fried rice, and asked for a substitution of bbq pork slices instead of the individual egg roll due placongvan order of egg rolls as well. Got home. No bbq pork slices for the substitution. And NO SUACE for the sweet and sour pork. Just a big pile of dry breaded pork. If I knew how to add pictures I would post them!!! When I called the restaurant back the lady who took my order stated she miss understood about the bbq pork substitution and asked that I drive back fornthe sweet and sour sauce. REALLY!?! I ordered 2 take out plates on my phone. Person said it would take 30 minutes. When I went to pick up found out that there were 4 people ahead of me. After 45 minutes I decided to cancel. The worker insisted my order was almost done but that was 15 minutes ago. I felt sorry for 2 young baseball players that said they had been waiting for 1 hour for 2 orders of rice! That's ridiculous. What broke the camels back were 2 older gentlemen who showed up while we were waiting and because they knew the receptionist there received their order within 10 or 15 minutes. WOW! read more

I freaking love China Inn!!! I used to live in Calipatria and this was my family go to place for Chinese food. I now live in Las Vegas but you best believe we make a trip to the Imperial County every once in a while to go eat here. I see a lot of poor reviews on this establishment but I am here to say that this is one of the best Chinese food restaurant in the valley. Service can get a little hectic when they are in a rush. At times the waiters are very busy and only check on you about one time. As far as the environment it is very plain not a lot of decoration for a Chinese restaurant. I am not here to rate on the books and service I am here to write on the quality of the food. This is the only restaurant I like to eat at because the food is very good I never have had any issues with my meals. Sometimes the waits are a little longer than usual because they get very busy. This is not the best Chinese place I've ever eaten at, but I sure won't call it the worst. It filled us up and was extremely cheap for the quantity of food you got, which was pretty nice. They made two very hungry vegans full and content. We got the Ma Pu Tofu (or Ma Po?) and veggie chowmein. When we ordered the second dish the woman at the counter gave us a look as if to say, "what? you really want two dishes?" Then when we were waiting for our order, we saw them bring out other people's dishes. They were HUGE! Seriously, 3-4 healthy portions piled high on one plate. The veggie chowmein was decent. Not overly memorable, but solid. The Ma Pu Tofu could have been spicier and I was sort of surprised by the amount of veggies in the dish, but I love veggies so I won't complain. I walked in and placed an order, was told 20-30 minutes, not unreasonable but after 45 minutes of waiting I asked how much longer. Staff is terrible I waited almost an hour for my food and it came out cold! I came in at lunch and here were maybe two other parties in the restaurant. It appears they're more focused on getting their to go guests orders. Anyways my food has to be regarded "microwaved" over cooked my bbq pork. About the worst service I've experienced - the waitress ordered a wrong dish but insisted it was the right one. It took 25 minutes to get soup. And she also never came by to see what we need if we need anything. I ordered and then the next table sat. The next table got their food 20 minutes before we got our food. I was a little worried about trying a Chinese restaurant in Brawley but I have to say I was very presently surprised. They had the best chow mien I've ever had! The staff was friendly, restaurant and bathrooms were clean and best of all the beer was cold! YUM! The restaurant isn't fancy at all. Some things never change including the dirty carpet and stains on the walls blinds and even the roof. Clean this place before the health dept. closes it down. When I called to place an order over the phone I asked to pay over the phone which I have many times before. The lady told me "No, you can pay when you get here my boss is busy." With an attitude. She should have put me on hold or asked to call me back . I then told her that I won't be the person picking up the order I'm sending somebody else . Just came from eating here with my family. So disappointed. Food is good but when we were in the middle of our meal there was a huge roach crawling around the floor by our feet. So disgusting! We were here for lunch on Sunday, it was crowded and staff was busy, but we didn't have to wait to be seated, they brought drinks right away, and lunch arrived in a decent amount of time. So I've been here 3 times because I like the food. They give you a lot of food. Once, I had the food to go so no complaints there. The other two times though, I had dined in. Never got asked how I was doing, and got completely ignored. I asked for a drink and that's what I got...ONE drink. Menu says refills only while dine in. My first dine in experience was at my lunch break, I was brought my drink, then my food. The "waiter" was sitting on his phone the whole time. He checked on other people except me. The second dine in experience was the same. I believe she is the owner, brought my drink once and never got asked for a refill. Both times, they were quick on delivering the bill though.
