We have taken out many times from China House. The food is quite delicious and reasonably priced for MV. We particularly like the chicken chow main , egg rolls, and spareribs. The flavors are nicely seasoned and the timing is always on target for pick up. We order basic Chinese food but I bet there are many dishes that are well prepared. My wife and stayed at the Edgar Hotel across the street looking for a something quick to eat for dinner and we decided to give China House a try and I must say, we were both very surprised and happy with the food. Being from NYC, we are picky about our Chinese food. But we wanted to give it a try. We did take out. The first night we ordered Chicken Fried Rice and the Shrimp Lo Mein. Well seasoned and great portions. It was so good that we ordered them the second night we stayed at Edgar Hotel. We ordered Singapore Style Mei Fun with Shrimp and I ordered the C-9 combo platter. The Mei fun was delicious and a good amount of spices and heat. Great portions. The C-9 combo platter was HUGE. It came with fried rice, chicken fingers, two beef teriyaki skewers and tender chicken with American broccoli. Everything was delicious. Keep in mind both of our orders we asked the restaurant to use less oil and less salt. We would definitely order food from here again the next time we come to MV. Great food. read more

You wouldn't expect to have a good Chinese meal on the Vineyard, so because of our low expectations, this place was a pleasant surprise. Decided to order Chinese in the middle of our Vineyard trip, as a brief respite from typical island fodder, and this was on point. Ordered the orange chicken, sesame beef, pork fried rice, and shrimp with lobster sauce. All dishes were exactly what you would expect from a satisfactory Chinese joint. As an added bonus, we were able to take some of the leftovers onto the beach for a Chinese food lunch. On a island or not I don't really want to eat here again. The hospital makes Better Chinese food when it's on the menu. If your expecting fried rice well expect white rice, egg, and onion. The lady at the take out window was nice and had plenty of menus. Be careful in the drive way! Cars can be entering as you are leaving- making travel difficult and dangerous. Ugh. I ordered the version of General Tso's chicken they have here earlier this summer. It comes "naked" with a sauce packet. It was bad, but I thought that maybe I just ordered the wrong thing. I waited 3 months to go back and ordered the Hot and Sour soup and the Broccoli and Beef dish. Both were awful. So extraordinarily bland that I ate about 20% of each and threw the rest out, even though I was starving and much in the need of some good Chinese comfort food. The egg rolls were dry as dry can be and the only saving grace was the duck sauce the server brought us. I have gone to China house a few times while on the Vineyard and it was gross. My pregnant girlfriend was craving Chinese food imensley and I warned her it isn't good but it was the only place on the island that has Chinese food. Well we ordered and I must say the food was very good. It wasn't amazing but very good thats why I didn't give 5 stars. I am use to very good Chinese food living in NYC. They where very nice and patient with us when we where ordering between 8 ladies for a total of 16 people not counting kids. The only downside is they have MSG in their food. I know this for certain because I get heart palpations when I eat MSG. It also makes me feel anxious, luckily my friends husband is a Dr. and gave me somethng for the anxiety, as I almost had to got the hospital. I think they should use MSG free ingredients and then for MV Chinese food I would change to 5 stars. I would also say lower your price and put some veggies in your veg fried rice, teak a few things and that place will get a better reputation. I don't know if they are new owners or they just stepped up the quality of food. Please take the MSG out!! you guys would do a way better business, as for me I won't eat there again only because of the MSG, NOT because of service or taste of food. Also they are very costly because they added $3 or $4 to my general Tso's chicken that was already like $15.95 so it brought the dish to $17-$18 for basic general Tso's chicken. All the restaurants I have been to in NY make theirs with white meat and charge $8 same size and NO MSG. None of the NYC Chinese places use MSG anymore, even the whole in the wall ones. Considering that I threw out most of my food, I had to go with one a star. I got the orange chicken, veggie lo-mein and crab ragoons. Orange chicken was dried out pieces of grizzly dark meat with under cooked broccoli and a pretty good sauce. The lo-mein was nothing more than overcooked pasta and veggies, I mean mush over cooked. The crab ragoons were just flavorless. On top of all that I had to also pay extra for hot mustard and duck sauce that I get included anywhere else. This was the BEST food I've ever had on the island... even the world. This is an amazing value. The service is great, and they will always help you get a table inside. The wait staff doesn't bother you 1000 times and the room is nice and cool in the winter. It's a quiet atmosphere with a varied menu. They also supply free dessert!!! read more

OK, it's Chinese food on Martha's Vineyard, not Chinatown, so let's evaluate it fairly... For what it is, I think it is great. We ordered General Gao's chicken, vegetable lo mein, and beef with broccoli, egg rolls, and hot and sour soup. It was all terrific. If you get sick of seafood, this is a great change of pace. AND THEY HAVE PARKING!!! Which no place in Edgartown does. The only thing I don't love is the dining in experience - the waitress we had was super nice and efficient, but the atmosphere is terrible. I think it was Mickey Rourke that once asked in a movie why all Chinese restaurants have lighting like the the department of motor vehicles? Well, that's this place. China House just didn't seem to quite have it together. I had chow mein with fried rice. The chow main was OK, but the friend rice was quite tasteless. I had to ask for hot mustard and soy sauce (never use the stuff usually) to make it OK. OK, my main gripes were that gallo is the house wine, but your couldn't order any any because they don't have a beer/wine license. I was not offered any chopsticks. They had only soda and black tea for drinks (and, thank goodness, water). I feel like they could get it together and have a fun place and a good business, but it isn't run anything like a restaurant in a resort needs to be run to be successful. Sorry, but the Thai place in Oak Bluffs is a much better bet. read more

Every summer that I'm here, I HAVE TI EAY HERE. The sesame chicken is the bomb, as well as the jumbo shrimp with strong brand, the eggplant with garlic sauce, chicken Lo mein, and the crab Rangoon. On a rainy day or when I'm a bit down, the chicken rice soup and sweet n sour soup definitely pulls me through. Eating at the restaurant is always nice, since I get to talk to the manager and the owners. Service is fast and friendly, and I always had all my sauces. read more

The thing is, when I order greasy msg Chinese food appetizers I want good duck sauce and hot mustard and the packets they threw in my bag were downright disgusting, I can't imagine how anyone would put that sludge in their mouth. I knew I wasn't going to like it but I squeezed them (which is annoying too) into a bowl anyway but one taste put that stuff right into the garbage.
