We could not have had a more wonderful meal for Valentine's Day! Now mind you, they were not serving in the dining room for some reason, but the young person who took the orders and ran back-and-forth charging people and bringing out their food Did an amazing job! I'm sure they're wonderful. Reputation had proceeded them because there were many others who were willing to wait as long as it took to get their orders in. Ours took a little longer because we ordered the Sesame shrimp and the salt and pepper shrimp but they were well worth the wait!!!! Delicious and this was our first time trying China express! We will definitely be coming back and will definitely tell everyone we know who wants to get good Chinese food that is freshly made exactly where they can go and that's China Express Mathis, Texas! By the way, the spring rolls were super crispy and the portions or Texas size! Typical Chinese food establishment. Not terrible, not amazing. Food can be hit or miss. Sometimes the rice is undercooked or the sauce isn't on point. I've been spoiled by excellent Chinese food in the city we once lived in addition to having friends from China who make this food look like dog food, so it's a tough review by comparison. It would be nice if the place wasn't run by hypochondriacs so we could actually eat inside the establishment. The woman who brings the food out appears to be terrified of people who breathe. We will continue to eat there whenever I am too lazy to make better Chinese food myself (SO much prep!) read more

A four star Chinese place in Mathis?!? I was surprised too. But there are a few things you must remember in order to achieve this four star experience. 1. Do NOT get the buffet. That stuff is probably registering for Kindergarten later today. 2. Stick to the basics. Don't get fancy. Chicken or beef in sauce with rice or noodles, with or without vegetables. This is the sweet spot. They do this well. 3. Get some appetizers. The egg drop is legit, the crab puffs are delicious, and the egg rolls are done well. That's it. Oh my goodness!! Let me start off by saying how pleasantly surprised I was. For a small town this place has some of the BEST Chinese food I have ever had!! I come from a big city with many similiar food options and nothing compares. Our order consisted of General Tso Chicken, Mongolian Beef, Beef Fried Rice and Egg Drop soup. The portions are large and priced well. Currently they only have ToGo call ahead pickups. The parking lot had many cars in line waiting to pick up. So I can only imagine how busy it would be if they offered dine in service. The woman who assisted me was super sweet as well. We will definitely be back!! read more

If I could give less than a 1 star I would. We called in an order and were told to call when we arrived. We waited 20-25 to make sure it was ready. We arrived and called them 25 times and nothing so we decided to go back home. After an hour they called and asked if we still wanted our order. I politely said no because we had already came home. She then told me I was "wasteful" and "rude" and told not to order from them anymore. read more

Wow. Unexpectedly found a' authentic Chinese place while working in this town. They do have Chinese American dishes as well, but it's a diamond in the rough getting real Chinese in south Texas, especially in a place with only a couple of choices for oriental cuisine. read more

We have enjoyed over a dozen meals from China Express. All were very good. The food is tasty and fresh. It is reasonably priced. The staff is friendly. We enjoy both eating in and take out. The dining area is very clean and the service is good. Our take out orders have been spot on--both fresh and hot.. My favorites are Hunan Beef (or Shrimp) and Sichueng Shrimp (or Beef). My wife loves the dumplings. Everyone likes the fried rice. The egg roles are good, too. My last home town had dozens of good Asian restaurants and China Express is as good or better than most. We ordered the Sesame Chicken (which is AMAZING) and the Mushroom Beef. It was me and my two teenage children and we were able to order two dinners and share between all three of us. I would stick with Chicken Entrees, the beef is a little chewy. You can't tell by the appearance but this place is very good and they make everything fresh! Prices are good too. read more

Actually not bad at all. There's a bit of an "old house" odor but didn't bother me cause I do take out. I've ordered house Lo Mein and combo fried rice. Not the best ever but it was worth a return trip. It's Mathis ya know.. not too many choices to grab carry out. read more

Thank goodness for yelp reviews because we would not have come here on our own accord. The location is very unassuming, but the food more than made up for it. Are you looking for the dankest Chinese food on the west side of the Mississippi? Search no more. This is hands down, the best Chinese I've ever had in my life. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about this temple of holy Chinese goodness. The cashier lady is an angel. I got so full from this food that I had to go next door to the motel, rent a room, f*** my wife, and take a nap. And then I woke up, and ordered a second helping of their sweet sweet sesame chicken just so I could savor it one last time before I left this random town in the middle of nowhere. I went with a group of six, and we had arrived there at around 9:20 pm (closes at 10) and the waitress taking our order really pressured us to take it to-go so that what we ended up doing.
