Food was horrible! Wontons were bland and not even spicy and had no meat inside, seems like they're freezer ones. The worker didn't even know how to talk properly, just mumbling. At first she was okay. The wonton soup was just lettuce water with wontons inside. the sesame chicken was cardboard with processed meat inside. Ive been going here since i was young, the food was amazing back then but now the food lacks flavor and decency. I got food poisoning twice! From the orange chicken, and the shrimp! The service at first isnt bad, they give you a warm welcoming but later seem hesitant and impatient if you take "too long" into ordering. Service has definitely changed over the years! This place is one of two Chinese restaurants you will find in the CIty of Coachella. They're family owned, have good service, they're clean and are a local favorite. I come here as often as I go to the other - which is at least once a month. I really only come here for my hubby. He likes the combo lo mein. Today, though, I decided to try their spicy soup. It's not on the menu above. It's in a flyer stand on the counter. Usually, across the board, take out isn't as big as a dine-in portion. And I was totally expecting everything to be in the soup container. To my fortune surprise, the noodles, veggies and meat were in a take out container and the stock was in a soup container. I really appreciated this because my noodles weren't all soft and soggy by the time I got home. The veggies weren't limp and the bean sprouts were fresh and crisp. The stock had a bite to it. I know it says spicy... i just wasn't expecting it to be that spicy. I only ate half, I plan on throwing an egg in that bad boy tomorrow :P I only gave it 4 star because I only ever come for the combo noodles (and now the spicy soup) so i can't speak on any of the other items. This place used to be good. I haven't been here in a few years. I went after work yesterday & it was busy. I waited for a while. A few people waiting for food indoors yesterday were coughing all over & not covering their mouths or wearing masks. Service was friendly. Now to the food....utterly disappointing! The pineapple chicken was always good but yesterday it was bad! It was mostly over fried breading & super dry! The orange chicken wasn't dry but had a strange acidic artificial tasting sauce & the chicken was soggy. Not sure if I'll be back. Really disappointed by yesterday's visit. read more

Okay as a vegan it's hard to find places with options. This place has two which is better than none! Their tofu and veggie platter was made fresh to order and is so bomb! Almost all of the tables were dirty, appears not self bussed. They need a exit trash with a place for dirty dishes, that would reduce staff demand and keep up with table needs. Art work and food pictures are sun bleached and washed out. Good pictures not very appealing. Need more than one size of drink cup. Only offered tiny 16oz cups, most of that consumed with ice. Coachella's Best Chinese, bar none. Every city has their own corner of delicious Chinese food. Indio has Kowloon on Jackson & Avenue 44 and La Quinta has the amazing Canton Bistro on Hwy 111. It took me awhile to find a suitable location to dub Coachella's best option for Chinese food, but China Express has to be it. If you can't find something on the menu to your liking I'd be baffled, their list of options is engrossing. It's amazing that in such a small location they have the ability to make all these different types of food. I always go for something of the Lo Mein variety and their noodles do not disappoint. They are not thin or that gross cartoonish looking orange that some Chinese restaurants offer. Also the portions are enormous, taking into considerable how affordable the prices are. This has become my family's go-to Chinese food place since it opened as 888 express. Since then it's only gotten better as they have impletemented a "don't make it, till you order it" philosophy. It was decent and a good value - large portions. We also got an order of egg rolls and shrimp fried rice. The quality again was Ok but nothing we need to go back for. The cons are there are no menus and their menu board is seriously outdated and very confusing - the prices they charge are higher than what is posted. read more
