China Delight has been my favorite neighborhood Chinese restaurant for probably 15 years now. Is it haute cuisine? No. But China Delight makes consistently good food and has done so year after year. This place was always my GO TO for Chinese food!! WTH? The guy at the counter was rude, called me names in Chinese, I ordered 2 lunch specials, one chicken chow mein which I know means chicken with vegetables and white sauce, but he kept telling me you want noodles, I kept saying NO I never said I wanted noodles he said you want chow mein noodles, no she only wants chicken chow mein!! for myself I ordered beef pepper steak! Yuck!! first of all that IS NOT beef! and it was suppose to be fried rice, but was plain white rice mixed with a little soy sauce, no onions, no fried egg NOTHING in the rice!! entire dish was sooo salty! must use salt to cover up whatever they are using in place of BEEF!! Located in Smryna, De in a very small plaza. The Plaza is called Eagle's Plaza & has approx 6 businesses. Upon entering the restaurant, you immediately see the counter and above the counter is the signature outdated menu on the wall that has probably been there since the turn of the century. The decor within this restaurant could really use a face lift. Walls could use painting and a good scrub of the floors won't hurt it. There is a dining area to the left of the counter which appears to have ample dining space for the foot traffic that comes in. From what I judged while waiting for my order, most people call ahead and get take out. In my case, I stopped off in the spur of the moment & am waiting. My wait was not any longer than any other Asian takeout restaurant than I've stopped and grabbed takeout. The staff was very busy as they were all moving quickly. I didn't feel that they were unfriendly (but couldn't tell since they just took the order and continued taking others orders). The portion size of the Dodd was really good. The food was actually very good. I am a bit surprised as I have not found good Chinese food in the area. Most places do not make Lo Mein well and it's generally under cooked. The Lo Mein was cooked well, the Szechuan Chicken was good. It was not remotely spicy, therefore, if you like spicy foods, you will need to specify that you want it to be extra spicy (and I will do that in my next trip as well). Horrible experience with China Delight in Smyrna. Called to order at 4:22 pm. Ordered vegetable fried rice. Took home and have about 3-4 pieces or vegetable. HORRIBLE. Called to complain and guy was soooo ignorant!!! Said I should have eaten it when I picked it up at 1:00 pm. Told him I didn't call till 4:22 didn't pick up till close to 5:00. He kept yelling at me I should have eaten it earlier. Then I asked for managers name he said he's not here. I said ok what's his name he said I don't know. Once upon a sticky summer evening in the small hamlet of Smyrna, which is situated like a slumbering swampland slug among the idyllic marshes of middle Delaware, my wife and I decided to dine out. Not wanting to feast upon the fat-ridden fare found in fast food joints nor to be served some down-home pig slop at a local feeding trough resembling a diner, we opted to try for Chinese food. Now, Smyrna as a town is notable in that businesses of one type tend to congregate together like flies drawn to the cold, blue light of a bug zapper. There are, for example, three different stores selling automotive parts, all situated within one square mile of one another. In addition, there are four Chinese take-out restaurants in Smyrna, three of which are also located within this selfsame one square mile. Like the automotive parts stores, there are few differences among these four restaurants apart from their logos. China Delight, however, does manage to stand out from the crowd a bit: it has the least-objectionable Chinese food, and the food is probably closest to authentic Asian cuisine, much in the same way that grey is the closest thing that people with red-green colorblindness can perceive to the actual colors. I may be selling the experience short, as the food is actually somewhat decent: the Sweet and Sour chicken bits are crisp, not sodden; the fried rice doesn't have the dry taste that comes from sitting for hours beneath a heat-lamp, and the mixed vegetables have the crunchy texture that results when they're not overcooked. This strip-mall establishment occupies two storefronts. One contains the front counter and a few chairs for people awaiting take-out; the other, connected storefront has several seats and tables which are ostensibly for people wanting to dine in. Since the restaurant featured such seating arrangements, I assumed that it would be acceptable for my wife and I to sit down and eat our meal. Lo, how we were mistaken! Perhaps the words with which we expressed our desire for a sit-down meal were misunderstood by the staff; perhaps the staff was simply shocked by what is apparently such an unusual request. Either way, we must have confused them as we placed our take-out bags on the table to eat at the restaurant. They awkwardly provided us with plates and plastic utensils with which to eat our food, which had been conveniently wrapped in a paper take-out bag, the opening of which was rolled and stapled shut. At the end of the meal, I was confused about whether or not we should leave a tip, since we hadn't technically been "served." I believe I left a token amount underneath one of the plates as I wondered when the staff last had to wash one of these dishes. The staff wasn't quite sure how to bid us farewell as we walked out of the restaurant. I suppose I shouldn't expect everyone to enthusiastically shout "WASABI!" from behind the counter like I'm in a Budweiser commercial, but my unrealistic expectations notwithstanding, I do think they could have been a bit more hospitable. Should my wife and I want something quick and local, we'll certainly order food here again, but I believe this time we'll grab our take-out and scurry out of the restaurant like rodents with morsels of precious cheese clenched in our little paws. read more

China Delight doesn't look like much from the outside, as it is situated in a strip plaza that could use some TLC, but they make the best Chinese food of the 4 places in Smyrna. We order Chinese food roughly once every 6 to 7 weeks and what keeps us coming back to China Delight is their crab rangoons. I'm not sure what it is about theirs specifically but my family enjoys them quite a bit. The food is always good and never greasy like it is at other places. The woman who answers the phone and works the counter is friendly to a degree. I like that I can see the cooks preparing my order from the counter as it gives me some assurance that the place is clean. read more

Portion size was good, egg roll was good, fried rice was better then average, sesame chicken was crunchy and flavor was great, but boneless spare ribs where too fatty and also too burnt for my taste. Overall price for two combos was about $15 which I find fair. I would order again just not spare ribs next time. read more

Didn't know what to expect but was very pleased with every thing we ordered. The shrimp in the Double Delight W. Garlic were a good size and not over cooked. The House Special Fried Rice was well seasoned but not salty and while the Spring Egg Rolls not as large as some that we have had the were light and flavorful. As for the Egg Foo Young, it was easy but not the beast that I have every had. A little on the thin side and a over cooked for my taste but everyone else thought they were great. For 10 years, my family and I have visited China Star next to the Food Lion. We never had any problems there, but we were looking to change it up one night. We selected China Delight based one someone else's recommendation, and I am sure glad we did! Ordering was a breeze, and they even let us swap the spare ribs in the combo platter for boneless spare ribs. They were so kind when we picked up our order and even threw in some extra fortune cookies (definitely not at all stingy like China Star). The food was excellent! Everything was fresh and flavorful. As far as your typical take Chinese restaurant goes this one falls in line with most. Considering the area it was not bad. We played it safe and ordered from their most popular "Chef Specialties"section of the menu. I will give them credit for following the ordering request we asked for and service was quick and friendly. They appeared to be quite busy for a Sunday afternoon and I feel we got a good bang for our buck. Worst Chinese food ever. Went there last night and ordered shrimp lo mein with no vegetables and a shrimp roll. Got home and there were vegetables in the shrimp lo mein and only 1 BABY shrimp in the egg roll. The egg roll also had No flavor whatsoever, it was dry and filled with some kind of bland filling. I went there today to get lunch. Got the General Tsao Chicken. The absolute best one I have ever had. The sauce was excellent. The fried rice had so much pork in it. Big pieces and very tender.
