Typical Chinese American fare. We always order to go The food is hit or miss, sometimes tastes fresh and sometimes bland. The vegetables are usually good. The order taker varies. Sometimes you will get someone who is nice and pleasant... And sometimes it's questionable why they let them answer the phone. It's pretty much the same when we pick up our order, sometimes the person is very pleasant, and sometimes they act like they don't want to be there. Our go to place for Chinese. Close to home great food. Funny fortune cookies. You have to ask if you want chopsticks.

I went there around 6:00 pm on a Wednesday and it was nearly empty. The interior is nothing special but not terrible. The woman working there was nice. Major pros were that the food came out very quickly. When we sat down we got water and crackers with duck sauce and we got what we ordered before we finished the crackers. The food was pretty good. We got string beans, seafood with vegetables, and white and brown rice as sides. Everything had very large portion size and was pretty good. Not amazing food, but not bad at all either. read more

Canton house is pretty good I always order the fried scallops. Customer service is pretty good as well.

Ordered the shrimp and string beans with the sauce on the side luckily without the sauce on I was able to see how dirty and old the string beans were and I was only given 3 shrimp which were very slimy! read more

This family owned Chinese establishment carries the traditional American Chinese restaurant, the one where you can either take out, dine in or now, DoorDash to your home. I did it and loved that. Eat in portions are big and are at the table fast. I would throw a 5th star, but the dining area needs just a little TLC. read more

I have been a customer for over 10 years and never had an issue until 2/21/22. I ordered shrimp egg foo young and unlike the past the food taste like it was spoiled. I called and informed the lady that answered the phone and she yelled at me stating it's not spoiled. I didn't waste my energy continuing with the conversation they lost a customer. I am not sure if there are different owners because the establishment look hideous with the filth and plastic barriers between you and staff. Inexpensive food that's isn't 1/2 bad. They seem to have similar food as the typical hwy Chineese food, but the quality of the vegetables they have is way better than average. I've never had limp broccoli, snow peas or any veggies there. We go for a quick meal about once every other week (dine in or take out) and are always satisfied with the service and food. Prices are excellent! One wish: - very dirty bathroom! Light switch has caked on dirt and the hallway and doorknobs need a good scrubbing each week!!!! read more

We asked for coconut shrimp and got orange shrimp. The lo mein is flavorless. The white rice was mushy. The sweet n sour sauce is watered down and the seafood soup was way too expensive for how lacking it was compared to anywhere else. Even the fortune cookies sucked. I go here on Thursdays and I do like their food, some are not as good, others are! I come here so often that they know me by name so the review is a bit biased. Chinese food always gives me a reaction that makes me run to the bathroom! This place does not! They have fantastic customer service which is always important to me it makes my dining experience a good one. I am a fan of there wanton soup, fried wantons. Canton House is nothing to write home about, although if you're dining here there's probably a good chance that you're already in your hometown. Embodying the essence of small-town "ethnic" food, this restaurant offers that highly Americanized version of oriental cuisine where the "spicy" dishes might have a pinch of black pepper added and most sauces have probably been spiked with loads of sugar or some other sweetener. Went there expecting it to be a general Chinese restaurant. I am a vegetarian and I ordered a meal with tofu. It is really not a hard meal to make. I didn't even take a bite and when I showed it to the waitress she completely agreed with me. I don't know what they did with it I expect they deep fried it some how but it came out like a dry kitchen sponge that had been left under your sink for the last 15 years. I mean it was not just bad it was not eatable and I am not inflating that at all. It was simply not eatable. I am guessing that the owner and chef of the restaurant had very little training in making Chinese food. I don't think that they are Chinese even if they are second or 5th generation Americans that are Chinese. I don't think that they are asian at all. WHICH IS FINE but I don't think they have a true concept of what Chinese food is. I think they looked at the other offerings in the area and said hmmmm there aren't any Chinese restaurants so lets open one of them. If you are lucky enough to get to Philly or some other city and eat at a real Chinese restaurant you will fully understand what I mean. But I am serious that stuff was like a dry sponge and the waitress was like oh well and that was that. I gave them two tries. I won't be giving them another. To put this in perspective I don't think their food is dangerously bad. If you watch Robert Irvine Restaurant Impossible you will know the quality of restaurants in the Smyrna, Dover, Middletown Delaware area. He came here to fix a restaurant that was down by the Chrysler Dealer I can't remember the name it was like The Independence Diner or something and they were serving Muskrat. And the owner an older lady pulls a frozen muskrat out of the freezer and slams it on the counter and Robert Irvine is like lady you are serving rats to your customers. That place had a full makeover and went out of business about 6 months later. I don't think that Canton House is like that place but I think if they set up some cameras in the place it would make an interesting tv show for Robert Irvine or Gordon Ramsay. And pretty much half the places in a 30 mile strip of Rt13 would also make a good episode for one of those shows. There is something about family owned restaurants that either go really really good or really really bad. And if you have a Chinese family 1st or 2nd gen owning a restaurant. Or the same goes for an Italian or any other type of Restaurant that is family owned. They run it like it is their entire world and every detail matters. Many years ago I use to work for a greek family that owned three large restaurants including The Mendenhall Inn, Country House Inn, Concordville Inn that are just over the border in PA. They were Tablecloth and Linen Napkin places with 2 inch thick Prime Rib Dinners and wine and the full thing. Danny was the guy I worked for when I was a Teen and I was always proud to work for him as hard as I could because I knew his mentality about the business. I don't know I don't see the same thing in this area from any of the restaurants and its sad. I think people are given opportunities that they waste and thats sad. Like that True Value that went out of business a year ago. That place would make an amazing high end steak house or up scale restaurant that people would come 30 miles to go to. The building is perfect for it and it sits there with no one using it. And maybe thats a good thing because it would just go to waste. Someone would start selling deep fried muskrats on a stick or something. EDIT I just wanted to add for the locals. Yes I am a Vegetarian. No I don't have purple hair and a nose ring. I have been one for 25 years because of health reasons. So don't go thinking Oh Yeah That Guy nope I have probably ate more cheese steaks and meatball sandwiches than the rest of you before I made that decision. read more

Worst customer service.. Completely disrespectful.. Food was good though (2 star for that) but not worth the trip for such a bad service..

I love the food here but I gave it a low rating because I have ordered my food and had to wait a very long time while all the cooks ate dinner before they would cook any other food. I understand cooks need to eat too but maybe they should warn people that the wait will be extended while they are on their dinner break. Their food is consistently getting worse.. This was the last straw I ordered General Tso Chicken, but received pork fried rice and chicken and NO broccoli at all.. I called and spoke to manager and was advised that they were low on it so they left it out, with out telling me the customer.. I told her it would have been nice if I was told that prior to placing my order and she offered to give me my two pieces of broccoli at a later date. I will not be back to this restaurant. read more
