Food is always so consistently delicious! Been eating here since 2008 when we moved into the area and always had a great experience.

We lived in Middletown for 39 years, and frequented here during the last 10 years we lived there. The takeout was B+ to A-, and enjoyable. We weren't expecting gourmet. We moved to Cromwell (10 minutes away) 2 years ago, and thought we would try it again. The meal was terrible. Chicken in cashews had no sauce, so very difficult to reheat. Sesame noodles were dry - no sauce. Terrible. Hot and sour soup was overloaded with mushrooms! Really? The only good dish was vegetable fried rice. With three misses out of 4, we won't go back. Too bad. The staff is friendly, but that doesn't compensate for a mediocre meal. read more

Oh my god NO! This place was disgusting. The food was inedible. The wonton soup broth tasted fishy. The wonton wrappers were gummy and the meat inside not tasty. The cold sesame noodles we inedible. The noodles were significantly undercooked and the clump of peanut butter dumped on top was too thick to do anything with. The egg rolls were also fishy tasting. I was fending for myself one night, so I decided to try a new to me Chinese restaurant. China City is less than 5 minutes from my new house, and I couldn't be happier! I ordered a Spring Roll, Three Musketeers and Fried Dumplings. The Spring Roll was was a little dry, but it was crispy and tasty. The Three Musketeers is a dish with beef, chicken, pork and Chinese veggies in a sauce that threw me off at first, but it grew on me. The Fried Dumplings were out of this world good. Had a Happy Family that was disappointing. Steamed dumplings were very good. Spring rolls were OK as was the Egg Roll. My wife enjoyed her Garlic shrimp. Now back to that Happy Family - the beef was indelible chewey and gristly. The Chicken was even worse - sorta of a fatty chewey texture with a rancid taste so that was inedible also. An OK local take-out place, they are in a strip mall with an indian restaurant, and italian restaurant, a breakfast place, a laundromat a very busy liquor store and some other things .. the parking lot is pretty busy and the people that buy liquor a few doors down always just double park in front of the store - i guess when you drink a lot you dont want to walk too much? getting in and out of the lot can be bothersome at times if there is traffic. The menu has all the typical chinese-take-out bases covered, a good selection of just about everything but nothing for me that really stood out as unique. The tables in here are really just there so people dont have to sit in their cars or for people waiting for take out. No table cloths, nothing fancy and that's just fine. the food was good - but i ordered all dishes that were marked "spicey" and none of them were. they were all kinda bland. price was OK - i didn't think it was overpriced for the portion size and the 'quality'. is this owned by the same people that own the chinese take out by stop & shop or the one downtown? read more

Ordered pork fried rice and wanted it spicy. Man said I will give you hot sauce.I said no I don't like hot sauce thinking I would get the hot chili oil. I got under cooked rice with some chili oil and a lot of hot sauce. I could taste the vinegar in the hot sauce. When I told them the rice was terrible the man got all upset with me and started yelling at me. I have eaten there many many times and had the rice before. Not spicy but the pork fried rice. It is always cooked great. I got the pork fried rice that is served with the combination specials. I know the difference. I will not be called a liar and will never go back. Despite a little initial bewilderment, he was gracious and accepting of my $10-off-20 coupon. A very nice gesture indeed for a new customer. In Central Connecticut, there's no shortage of good cheap Chinese food, but there are also a handful of places you want to stay away from. Fortunately, China City is in the former category. Had an inexpensive, well prepared, tasty take out meal with the wife on a busy worknight. Wonton-Egg Drop soup, General Tso's chicken, Beef With Broccoli. Bizzam... good stuff. Pretty decent food. China city is where I tried Chinese food for the first time way back when. I have not been in a while because there are a couple Chinese places closer to me. I wanted to try something different tonight so I ordered from there. My wife and i split a general tso combo, crab rangoon, and beef sticks. I will say the crab rangoon and beef sticks were much better than what i have had at great wall on south main st. The general tso was decent, not as crispy as i like. I will also say the portion is smaller at china city than great wall. Overall, it was a pretty good. I would recommend it if you live on that side of town. The online ordering app is very easy to use, pretty much what all the Asian places in the area use it. read more

The Good prices and friendly service is not enough to save this place. I have had a few friends speak highly about this place so I gave it a shot. Ordered szechuan chicken and the wife had Sweet and Sour chicken. Also crab rangoon. The szechuan chicken was bland and flavorless, not even a hint of spice. Found this place last night after leaving class at MXCC. Ordered the boneless spare rib combo and on a whim ordered fried wontons to share with the hubby. Fried rice wAs flavorful and ribs were not inedible pieces of jerky ( like my local place serves) The star of my meal was the fried wontons. These folded pillows of wrapper and meat were absolutely delish and I love how they give you a container of sweet and sour sauce which by the was is also not the watered down sauce (I get at the place in town). read more

My family and I love China City! It is a family-owned restaurant that makes their own dumplings, so both the spicy dumplings and the wonton soup are the best we've ever had. The orange chicken is fantastic, and I always order beef & broccoli which is very good. I have nothing bad to say about China City. Not only are they friendly but the food is really great and the prices especially lunch can't be beat. I always get steamed broccoli and chicken for lunch and even though it's not on the menu they are happy to accommodate my order, and for $8, I get a large order of chicken and broccoli, pork fried rice, and an egg roll. I will admit that the dining area is not as clean as it could be, and the floor needs a mopping for sure. It's kind of cluttered in there as well but the cooking area looks like it is well maintained so I can't rip on them too much. It's a heavily trafficked Chinese restaurant given the local businesses that surround it but they do a great job and again are really nice people. read more
