So I'm wondering where the taste buds of the people who left positive reviews are. Because I can honestly say this is the worst pork fried rice I've ever had. I mean, it's palatable if you're hungry, but if I want to enjoy good fried rice, this isn't it. First, it's not cooked completely, so yay for eating semi-hard, raw rice. Secondly, it definitely seemed they just put the pork on top of an already half-made fried rice. I found myself using ALOT of the duck sauce and soy sauce. The rice was with the butterfly shrimp; the breading is by far one of the worst I'vehad, and to add, how does fried shrimp actually get mushy internally? I ended up throwing away the five shrimp that were left because I couldn't handle the mushy mess. I also wasn't sure the egg roll that came with my husband's order would be good, so that went in the trash as well. My husband had the General Tso's chicken and pork fried rice. We asked for it extra spicy, extra sauce, and um, the spice is a joke. He said the General Tso's was subpar, something you would eat if you were starving. We had fried cheese wontons that tasted as if they were reheated in a microwave. You know how breading, like on pizza or bread in general, gets chewy when heated in a microwave. I feel bad for having to write this review, but I don't only post negative reviews. I post honest reviews that tell you the good, the bad, and the ugly, and I can honestly say this restaurant is now on my list of places I will "NEVER GO" again. When my husband went to get the food, I'd say at least they were very nice. The restaurant itself could definitely benefit from some repairs. But if the food is of such low quality, I would definitely focus on that. So, yes, this is my honest review and opinion. read more

Y'all, I gotta brag about my favorite Chinese restaurant. China City off Davis Park Rd in Gastonia is hands down the best Chinese restaurant EVER! Tina is the best, we talk every time I come pickup food and she is always a friendly heart that I can share my ups and downs with. She was an ear after I lost my dad and always checks up on me and my mom when I stop by. I got this little gift in my food bag and I just had to brag. This bowl is so gorgeous! I'm serious when I say they make the bestest, freshest, most delicious Chinese food. The chicken wings are the sooooo good, you might fight somebody to get more! China City is more than a restaurant, they are our friends and a staple of the community. If I had the money, I'd eat there every day. Stop by next time y'all are in Gastonia! read more

I got the pint sized chicken lo mein and the dinner combo General Tso's chicken with fried rice as a to-go order. The General Tso's chicken was very good. There was a lot of sauce at the bottom of the container to dip into, which was nice. The top layer of chicken didn't have much sauce but that was perfect because the chicken was not soggy and still had a good crunch to it when the food got home, plus there was plenty of sauce below to dip into. The rice seemed a little bland but it was good in combination with the chicken or sauce. The lo mein was awesome. Perfectly soft noodles, well cooked chicken, and very flavorful. Really great food love it been going here for a long time everything is always on point! Doing take out only for right now because of cov-19 taking all the precautions by wearing mask and gloves and they have the restaurant taped off with plastic and have a little door to get your food . I wish Yelp would allow two and a half stars. Why is it so difficult to find Moo Shu in Gastonia? Don't know. China City has Moo Shu pork, chicken, etc. on their menu. That's why I tried them. They ONLY take cash as of 12/01/14. Not knowing this, I had to visit the ATM at the BiLo next door. Bummer. I got Moo Shu Chicken. It tasted yummy, but it was light on the meat and heavy on the cabbage. There were no mushrooms. The shrimp eggrolls were huge. Lots of shrimp. Mega greasy. his is go to place for my family atleast once a week. My dad brought me there since I was kid and now it's over 15 years and I'm still enjoying their food a lot. Their price is cheap and affordable, food is fresh and they always give extra portions. Minimal oil/grease and salt yet still super tasty. read more
