    Dirty soup spoon
    Verl H.

We ordered the sweet and sour chicken lunch special with egg drop soup and fried rice. The soup came with a dirty spoon and was lukewarm. The wanton was not crispy and the egg roll was plain. The rice had so much soy sauce in it that it was black. We also had the potstickers and those were good.

Over half the broth left and there is nothing left of ingredients

This being the only Asian food in town, it's kind of pointless to review, but, I need to say that they closed and reopened shortly ago (under new management) and we are now getting far less food for what was already rather pricy. My main issue in this order was my hot and sour soup. It contained next to no ingredients! Seriously, it was a container of broth and a spoonful of tofu. It should have meat, mushrooms, sliced bamboo shoots, etc, and truly could have put all the ingredients onto one soup spoon. I splurged for this disappointment.

Some of our must-haves are the salt and pepper calamari - perfectly crisp with just the right hint of batter. It's flavorful and cooked to perfection. We have family members nearby and a lot of them also say that Asian cuisine out in Reno is not necessarily the best. Not being the case I have to admit we kind of had low expectations of this restaurant. Things were a little weird when we arrived. But first, let me tell you he's at the parking lot is large and there's plenty of parking for everyone. This restaurant shares a lot with an el super market and a few other small businesses. When we entered, the gentlemen at the front seemed very flustered. There was one couple who had arrived just before us. They were there to place a to go order. Once we came in and let them know that we were going to be a party of four, the gentleman looked very confused. All of a sudden he didn't seem like he knew where to put us. There were more than enough tables. He initially was going to place in a tiny booth, but we explained that when we go out to eat that we may be a small group, but we order pretty large amounts of food and we like our table space. He got even more confused and flustered. We ordered green beans with chicken. We had pork chops with spicy salt and fried tofu with spicy salt. And because we were feeling slightly intrigued and curious, we ordered a fried eggplant with spicy salt. That fried eggplant was fantastic. It was so lightly fried, even though the batter, we weren't quite sure about because it looked a little heavy. I really like the green beans. They were still crispy and crunchy. To my liking, those were perfectly cooked. I love that. They use a lot of onion and garlic. Nothing was overly salty. The one oopsie that I experienced that was both a shock and a bit of a problem... one of the waiters came to refill my water and somehow he accidentally missed the cup and dumped about a quarter of the picture of water into my purse. Ughhhh. That part wasn't fun but luckily I keep my purse organized where everything is pretty much in pouches. So most things were protected. My wallet did get wet, but luckily it was just water and nothing else.

We decided to check out Louie's Mandarin Gourmet. Needless to say we were disappointed. We felt we had to order an appetizer of egg rolls because the lunch special only offered soup. The egg rolls themselves were disappointing. They contained only chopped cabbage and nothing else. I ordered the Mongolian Beef Lunch Special with the Egg Drop Soup. I upgraded the lunch special substituting egg chow mein for the rice side for $2. The lunch special is also supposed to come with steamed vegetables. The Mongolian Beef itself was tasty. What was disappointing were the sides. The steamed vegetables was steamed cabbage. What I would expect to receive for steamed vegetables in a setting like that would be broccoli and carrots at a minimum. The egg chow mein noodles that I received looked like rice vermicelli to me and not chow mein noodles and they were rather bland and disappointing. My dining companion ordered the chicken curry. He reported that it was disappointing because it had lots of potato and nothing else very much chicken at all. And the curry itself was rather bland. Needless to say this was a disappointing dining experience.

There's just something comforting about a warm bowl of Pho; it's basically a hug in soup form. Of course, we also had to order a few of our longtime favorites -- the Salt & Pepper Shrimp and Sesame Chicken. Both were delicious as always and definitely hit the spot. So happy to finally have a place in Fernley that serves Pho. Looking forward to coming back and trying more from the menu!

For this particular review, I am rating this place a 5-star based on the town it is located in…read more(Fernley) and relative to the other restaurants available to choose from (even the non-Chinese ones), which are few. Dragon City is the one of the best dining establishments in Fernley, NV. There, I said it, and I stand by it. Inside, you will find a comfortable atmosphere with warm lighting and friendly service. Especially compared to other places in town, the seating is quiet, comfortable, and inviting. The food may be a little on the pricey side, but you get a TON of it with every serving and will have extra food to eat for the next day or two, easily, to the point it's like purchasing food for a family of three for three days. I usually order my food to-go, over the phone, and it's usually ready in ten minutes. Even if they say the wait will be 20-30 minutes, it's generally ready in 15-20. They'll even text you when the food is ready! Dragon City's food is flavorful and consistent, which cannot be said for the other Chinese food restaurants in town (and none of them have even close to the same atmosphere). What I especially appreciate about this establishment is that their meat is always tender, especially their Sesame Chicken. Wow, what a dish! It's my family's favorite. Our other go-to dishes are Broccoli Beef, Kung Pao Chicken, Pork Mu-Shu, and of course the trusted standbys, Chicken Fried Rice, Chicken Chow Mein, and an order of Pot Stickers. Their Sweet & Sour Pork and Orange (or Lemon) Chicken are pretty decent, too, but sometimes a little sweeter than we're in the mood for since we're also getting the Sesame Chicken nearly every time. All-in-all, Dragon City is one our favorite places to frequent in this little town. We had avoided even trying the place back when it was called, IIRC, "Louie's Chinese Bistro." I just couldn't picture a guy named 'Louie' running a Chinese place, and "Bistro", a French word for a place that cooks comfort food... yeah, I couldn't reconcile that as a place I wanted to go for Chinese cuisine. I don't know if they changed ownership or just the name, but once they became Dragon City, we gave them a shot and we are very happy we did. The quality was so far over the other Chinese places in town that we've never been tempted to go elsewhere again.

This one even had sweet, perfectly cooked carrots. The fried rice was also spot-on: silky egg, peas, carrots, and that familiar flavor so many of us love. Lunch specials run from 11-3 and come with soup, an egg roll, and your choice of rice or noodles. Portions are massive. My only issue, and unfortunately it's a big one, was the service. After taking my order, the gentleman serving me never returned to my table. I couldn't get sweet & sour sauce for my egg roll, and my water was never refilled. I raised my hand several times, but he walked by as if I wasn't there. Finally after waiting for over ten minutes when I was over it, I stood up hoping someone would notice and assume I was trying to leave without paying. That worked and I was immediately handed my check. Of course I still had to ask for a to-go container. The food alone is a 5 star rating, but the service brings the experience as a whole down to a 3. I love Chinese-American food, and this kitchen gets it. Not sure if my race or that I'm a woman was an issue, or if I just got the worst server they have. I hope this reaches the right person because I would like to come back but being ignored and feeling so unwelcome is disheartening.
