I had some business to do at the county center on Monday so decided to have a lunch at this local sports bar. A clean and open dining room with sports paraphernalia decor. Immediately I was gotten my drink order of a soda and an ice water. I ordered the Avocado Burger. This is a monstrous size burger that you just have to open wide for, and accept the fact that you are in for a treat and more that a few drops of juice and condiments. This is a burger that is worth driving from Reno for if you can afford the time. Seriously it is THAT good! read more

Located in a small office park where every business shares the same cookie-cutter building shape, Tailgaters sits quietly on the corner of the lot. From the outside, it doesn't do much to stand out--faded vinyl signage and a sunburnt exterior give off the impression of a place designed by AI after being told, "make a sports bar." The interior isn't much different. Think: outdated sports catalogs or a kid's themed bedroom from the early 2000s--generic sports posters, uninspired decor, and the same templated feel as the outside. But if you're here for the food and not the ambiance, you'll be pleasantly surprised. The service is fast, the staff is attentive, and refills come quickly. The burgers are better than anywhere else in town--though slightly overpriced for what you get. That said, the pasta is excellent, easily the standout on the menu. Overall, while the place lacks character and feels a bit cheap in terms of design, it more than makes up for it with solid food and friendly service. Gayle and I were in the greater Yerington area yesterday as part of a family errand. Yerington is about an hour and a half from Genoa, of which the drive is largely scenic and lightly populated. At times, we did wonder what some of the individual stories might be about as we passed various styles of stand-alone homes. After picking up some items from Nevada Copper, we searched Yelp and Google for possible Lunch spots. When McDonald's appears as #5 on a page's Top 10 list (and its Monday), we knew that our choices were limited. We "settled" on Tailgater's and were pleasantly surprised, as we settled into our booth during a quiet early afternoon. I'll give this place 5 Stars, mostly because for what it is (kind of a diner/sports bar cross) and where it's located, it did its job very well. High points: - Friendly, engaging, efficient, and caring table service. - Excellent Turkey Melt (with fries for me and creamy soap for Gayle) - Decent wine and Guiness to go with our meal. - Reasonable price for the quality and portions of our meal. So after a year and half my coworkers and I finally decided to give Tailgaters another try for lunch....and well it's safe to say somethings just never change. We were a party of 4 and got there a little after noon. Restaurant had maybe 6-8 people inside eating so we figured this would be fine to get in and out within the hour.....boy were we wrong. We decided to sit outside and immediately ordered. Long story short we wait nearly an hour and 15 minutes to get our food. We ended up asking the waitress to make our meal to go at the 40 minute mark and she said the food was on its way out. Had we known she was lying and another 35minutes was going to be needed we would have just canceled and left. An full 75 minutes after ordering we got our food to have the waitress say maybe we should call ahead next time. What!? Not that she was sorry for the delay or anything sympathetic but instead "maybe you should call ahead next time" like really? When did she want us to call ahead for our salads? The night before! Haha You can't have well below average food and offer awful service. Lesson learned won't ever be back. read more

Well, I used to live in Yerington and visited tailgaters during the sports events and we ate there in the hospitality and the food was delicious. No worries no problems because it was a sports bar. We expected what we got, and we did being that my son is a well-known name as Samuel hammond. We have a jersey hanging up and we all hope that someday it will be signed once again as he makes the NFL, he's playing in the quad city steam wheelers arena, football league. Now I can call my pro after being a walk on UNR Wolfpack it's where we all learned his name in Reno. read more

You can't go wrong here. I don't eat at very many local eateries simply because most are not that good (to me). Tailgators is one of the exceptions. Kellcey (owner) and Vicki are super cool. My wife and I are regulars here so they know us by name and we're even to the point where I rarely have to say what I want. Unless I decide to throw them a curve ball they already know. If you, your spouse, or someone in your party is a sports fan, they'll enjoy the decor. TV's everywhere always playing some kind of game, lots of Baseball & Football artifacts on the walls, and even pictures of your most well know players heat wrapped around the tables. Where else could you eat off of Buster Posey's face? Lol. The cheeseburger is damn good. Hand rolled and grilled fresh. The Pulled Pork Sliders are another favorite as well as the French Dip. The salad bar is serve yourself and you can go up as much as you want. To finish off your meal, order the Deep Fried Oreos. Yes, you read that right. You're welcome. The only way I could make this place better is by convincing them to take down the Cubs memorabilia and put more Giants memorabilia up. We stopped in here on the road from Vegas to Reno. It was worth it! It was around 4 or 5pm on St. Paddy's so they had a lot of phone orders and a decent crowd inside enjoying March Madness on the TV Screens. It took about 10-15 minutes to get an order in and about 20 for the food to come out. I do wish it could have been a bit quicker or that the numerous phone orders they were taking while we waited didn't go into the kitchen before ours. But the food was excellent. We had a mushroom Swiss burger with tater tots that were crunchy. The burger wasn't too greasy. We also shared a Caesar salad. It was fresh and the dressing was excellent. We enjoyed the last few hours into Reno with a full belly and a smile. Plus the gas stations on that side of town are considerable cheaper than others along the route! read more

It's OK. Nice place, decent food, friendly service and . . . . there are not a whole lot of other options in Yerington. I had been to this restaurants many times before when it was Scobie's, so I was happy to see that a new restaurant had opened in it's place. It has not changed a whole lot from before except there are some additional TV's and a LOT of sports posters and paraphernalia on the walls to really let you know this is now a sports bar. So for atmosphere - I give it 3 stars. The sports bar thing is not a big plus for me. It was mostly a late lunch group while I was there and the TV over the bar was not intrusive. The service was friendly, but a bit slow. The lone waitress brought me my menu, took my drink order, and brought me my drink right away. And then I waited. And waited. She did eventually come back, took my order and I was served within a reasonable time. She did apologize for the wait. She was friendly and my food was hot from the kitchen. 3.5 stars. I imagine the service is usually better. The food was actually pretty good. I had the grilled Pepper-jack Pastrami sandwich with an order of fries. The sandwich was grilled with a nice balance of meat and cheese on parmesan sourdough. It was golden brown and the bread had just a bit of buttery, cheesy crunch. There were pepperonis on the sandwich which was an extra spicy addition to the sandwich.The fries were real potatoes and were crispy and hot. The food was a solid 4 stars. At $8.95 I thought it was a little pricy, but not bad as the Pastrami tasted like the real thing and not processed. Would I drive out of my way to eat here? Probably not. Very local place located in a newer strip mall. Lisa, our bartender/server was very nice and provided great service. My wife and I had a couple of drinks and ordered a dozen wings. She had them sauced with "Temptress" sauce which had a kick just above buffalo style. I had mine in "Garlic Parmesan" which was more of a dry style rub. Both flavors were quite good. They currently have 5 TV screens providing different sports viewing options. Full bar, non-smoking and good eats. I definitely recommend this place. read more

Our service was horrible and it seemed that the lady serving us was the owner. The food was edible and I could've made better so guess they need a new cook too. The prices were crazy expensive....$30 for lunch and that's with a soda and a water. In Yerington and don't have a clue where to grab a bite? This little sports bar/pub is a great choice for a casual lunch or dinner that's also family friendly. They've got a good sized parking lot in a central location in town across the street from the John Deere dealership in a newer strip mall. It's decorated with sports posters, and a few TV's. the usual stuff. The bar area isn't very large but seems comfortable I was in town for the afternoon for work and was ready for lunch. I checked Yelp and saw that my friend Nancy V had reviewed this place and based partly on her review I decided this was my spot. It's a sports bar with typical sports bar fare with a few countrified additions like deep fried peaches, deep fried Oreos and pulled pork French fries to name a few on the menu. I settled on the hamburger sliders. They are pretty simple. No extras at all. Just buns and meat. With a side of fries. But those little buns were buttered and toasted golden but still soft. Really delicious. I'd eat the buns by themselves. and the meat was super flavorful. Perfectly seasoned. It didn't need anything but a dip or two into my French fry ketchup. The fries were really good too. Not peeled, not sure if they were handcut there or not but they were tasty anyway. Service for me on this visit was super quick and friendly I didn't wait long for anything at all.
