It's what you would expect from a small town eatery. Simple, quaint and spacious. The men's restroom was very clean and made for solo occupancy. I was interested in something on the menu, but our server Maggie recommended something different and I'm so glad she did! It was the breakfast burrito with chorizo. The burrito came out hot and fresh. I asked for green salsa on top and it came with a spoon size serving of sour cream on the side. It truly was one of the best breakfast burritos I've ever had and I ate the whole thing. Be aware, it's pretty big so great for one person if you're very hungry but also perfect for 2 people to share. Absolutely delicious. When I visit cities or towns, I usually enjoy eating at and supporting local restaurants. I highly recommend El Ateño restaurant and I will definitely come back if my business travels bring me to or near Yerington, NV again.

The vibe was warm and happy, and we really enjoyed our visit.

From the outside, it looks like an afterthought. Inside, not much changes. No one says hello. The staff looks at you with melancholy, like they weren't expecting anyone. The place feels temporary, like it could pack up and vanish by morning. The décor, doesn't seem to follow any plan. I ordered a bean and cheese burrito and a chicken quesadilla. Nothing fancy. Just something to eat. The total came out over twenty dollars. I looked at the receipt and looked at the food. The math didn't add up. No one talks. No one smiles. There's a TV turned up too loud playing something forgettable, and music playing over that. It doesn't cover the silence. It just makes you want to leave faster. The food was bland. Anyway, I usually always get the tacos (because...tacos) and while they're not the best I've ever had, they're certainly very good and are worthy of your money. I've also ordered a spicy pork burrito a few times and that was good to. Their hot and spicy salsa is super good and is so far, the only salsa I've ever raved about. Give it a shot. Yerington certainly doesn't have a shortage of Mexican restaurants, but to me this one stands out from the crowd (in a good way).

This is definitely in the category of a hidden gem!…read more YTA (Yerington Theater for the Arts) manages this amazing old building that serves as the cultural center for the small farming community of Yerington. Inside this refurbished old grammar school is an amazing little cafe operated by YTA. I used to come to the cafe when I lived in Yerington and it was under different management. I am so happy to see that the Cafe has been revived under the capable management of Roy Enochson, the Executive Director of YTA. A friend and I decided to have lunch here recently. The Cafe is in the lobby area of the Theater and serves as a place to eat, an art gallery and a boutique for all sorts of arts and crafts most of which are locally made. The space is a bit like being in a favorite Auntie's parlor with little tables, comfy chairs and a visual cornucopia of treasures. My friend ordered the lunch special - butternut squash ravioli with a side salad. I ordered the Cafe Signature Salad - a lovely fresh blend of baby greens, apples, cheese, cranberries, candied walnuts all lightly dressed with a white balsamic vinaigrette. I also had a blood orange Italian Soda. The food was all tasty and fresh. Service was vey friendly, but the food was slow coming out. It was worth the wait. Our total bill for the two of us was under $20. While the portions were not huge, the meal was satisfying and the quality was excellent. This is a definite place to stop if you are in the area.
